I guess nobody won't think that this faggot is being honest. He got 20k cash from other people's work.
If someone writes a story for a game, he's not the ideas guy. Writing a good story is much more difficult task than it is to mod games.
As true as this is, it sure as hell does not give you the right to take all of the profit earned. Let alone much of it at all. The people who actually execute the idea are what matter the most.
Wow, David Idiotsel can't even spell remember.
He is the ideas guy though. If he did write the 'story' for Orion then obviously he's a terrible writer. It is a Halo clone pure and simple.
You can tell just from his quoted post above that he's no writer--if he doesn't know how to use a basic idiom like "rings true" how's he gonna write a story?

If I were the other devs I'd just leave the team and fuck over this asshat. I'd never work for someone like that.
hahaha.
Well, that just doomed his company.
The Polycount thread rang some truth - but of course was coupled with falsified information. Oh really, what part of it rang true?. the part where you up and fired the entire team without notice and then lied about it?, or the part where you decided you we're gonna steal all of their hard work and sell it for your own gain?. There was a lot of passion behind it due to it being relatively new. Um, what?. Spiral Game Studios started out as a modding group - which was free to play and of course non-compensated work. We are still a non-financed and non-compensated company EXCEPT for the KickStarter campaign which is being used towards the build we created for GDC. This sounds like his lawyer thought it would be a good idea to say this, and you used the campaign to finance the GDC build, THIS MEANS YOU'RE FINANCED BRO OR YOU WOULDN'T NEED TO HAVE HAD TO RAISE MONEY TO MAKE A BUILD. WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU NEED AND WHAT ARE YOU USING THE MONEY FOR IF YOUR NOT PAYING PEOPLE FOR THEIR WORK?. Your argument is looking about as shot up as a B-17 over Berlin, which is to say, full of holes. Daniel, the instance located at Polycount joined roughly 18 months ago (Novmeber, 2009) when we were still doing the ORION: Prototype / Source Multiplayer Beta. The KickStarter campaign (first money we would ever receive) began and ended in February 2011. Daniel joined the team understanding that the work was for portfolio-building purposes. he said quite to the contrary, and I'm inclined to believe the guys who all were fired without clause out of the fucking blue the day money started to arrive. BUT HEY THAT'S JUST ME RIGHT?. He was unable to participate in his listed tasks for GDC / KickStarter - but he did do a bunch of work previously. like 90% of your environmental work. While I am made out to be a bad guy in the last few days, I don't think I, the company, the game or the hard working developers would be where we are today if this was a common occurrence or held a significant amount of truth. more lawyer/PR schlock, and I dunno about that, Liars have gotten farther, pick up a history book on 19th and early 20th century American business sometime. and YOU SAID IT RANG TRUE YOU MORON. I will be reaching out to these folk and attempting to mend things as I do want them to be aware that they are not only extremely talented - but that there time was appreciated. and that's why you fired them all without notice the moment money started coming in, makes perfect sense. I hope that helped clear a few things up. If you have any questions - please feel free to ask. Oh it did, and rest assured, we will ask.
[editline]13th March 2011[/editline]
hahaha. Polycount link doesn't work anymore, did the thread get deleted?
wow I hope they didn't. I can't find it though. [editline]13th March 2011[/editline] it's gone but still cached on google http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:3TFrj9-wJncJ:www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D81931+http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D81931
Yeah, polycount staff deleted the entire thread. I was enjoying it, too.
There is a lot of stuff on the reddit thing to support this. I honestly wouldn't be surprised and it seems his brother is in on it too.
If you've ever had the misfortune of working for Praz, you will know outright that he's a cockend. With these revelations, I'm glad the entire community knows that as well.
hahaha I just saw some screenshots of the game. The player model is literally the Master Chief with radio antennas on the helmet. How the fuck did this hack get anywhere beyond the "ideas" stage of his mod.
From what I heard, he actually forced his artists to make everything look like something out of the Halo universe.
I've always supported Orion and been excited for the UDK release, it did look quite promising. And the Source multiplayer beta was fun. But after reading this...
From what I heard, he actually forced his artists to make everything look like something out of the Halo universe.
and then fed them their own dicks
If you've ever had the misfortune of working for Praz, you will know outright that he's a cockend. With these revelations, I'm glad the entire community knows that as well.
I don't think the Orion community is aware of what is going on.
I hope Valve finds out about this and refuses to put his mod on Steam, as optimistic as that is.
The best we can do is raise awareness, spread the word, tell your friends and get them to tell theirs. I hope this dick gets sued.
I hope Valve finds out about this and refuses to put his mod on Steam, as optimistic as that is.
i think he's chosen some shitty steam wannabe for mods or w/e (despyr or something like that) for digitally distributing his game. fitting that a third rate ripoff of halo gets a third rate ripoff of steam.

It's actually pretty useful if you play a lot of mods. But the plan was for a Steam and XBox Live release.
I thought Orion looked way cooler when it was Incoming: Source (did Praz have anything to do with that design?)
I thought Orion looked way cooler when it was Incoming: Source (did Praz have anything to do with that design?)
Praz has been at the forefront since the very first Goldsrc version. There was a Podcast 17 interview with the Orion team a couple of years back that I listened to.

The only real difference is that it had modern weapons instead of futuristic ones.

It's not really a rip-off or wannabe, it's more of a homage. It's pretty much like Steam but more mod-based. I don't see the harm in that at all because it gives deserving mods more attention. Orion not included. Maybe tell the designers of Desura about this, maybe they'll refuse to let him distribute his mod there. (Unless he pays them to let him do that, then they probably won't care. Something I didn't share.

It's got the moddb style UI so everything actually looks nice + uses next to no resources
