Open world is always my first choice, hell, sometimes whether a game is open world or not is a deciding factor if I buy the game or not.
Survey, done.
Thanks for the responses so far guys, I've got 52 surveys filled out so far :D
Took the survey. I like extensive customization and open worlds, but open worlds tend to confuse me. They don't have recognizable landmarks. A prime example is San Andreas; I could never really get immersed in it because I never really knew what the fuck I was doing. Fallout 3 and Saints Row 2, on the other hand, are two of my favorite games.
Did the survey. The only game that I have played RECENTLY that has 2 different things to achieve two different endings was the Avatar game, which was an Ok movie game.
Freeroam is good if the area has stuff to do. If it's only static buildings, it's not so fun anymore.
[sp]I am also posting because I know how it feels when you make a thread and nobody really posts in it [/sp]
RIP Captain Forever thread :crying: Also Answered
World of warcraft is quite open
I put something at the bottom of the survey that I want to post here too. One flaw I've noticed in games that let you be "Evil" or in some that let you be "Good" is that there is always someone more evil or more good than you. I want to be able to go all the way and go from a normal human to a extremally powerful and corrupt entity like Voldemort from Harry Potter or Balrog from the Lord of the Rings and have the option to go from a normal human to someone like Batman or Gandolf from the Lord of the Rings. I don't want the NPC good guys or bad guys to be able to do anything I can't do as long as we're the same species.
Have you guys ever thought about how open world games might work in other genres, such as strategy? You have some games like Civilization, and to some extent the Total War series, how do these games shape up in terms of freedom?
STALKER was too open ended for me, didn't know what was going on so half of the time I was trying to figure out what the fuck I was doing and if I was doing the mission right
STALKER was too open ended for me, didn't know what was going on so half of the time I was trying to figure out what the fuck I was doing and if I was doing the mission right
What could have been done to make it clearer?
I took it, I liked Fallout 3 and Saints Row 2, mainly open world games and games where you can change the storyline.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ... yes Fallout 3 ... piss off, it was fun for about an hour Garry's Mod ... not anymore S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ... yes GTA IV...bowling (yes) Far Cry 2...ok Borderlands...gay In my humble opinion.
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories had a great, "Choice," system. The game simply monitored things that you looked at, and the ways that you answered your psychology tests, and assigned appropriate qualities to your game world. This meant that it wasn't, "Good," or, "Bad." Just maybe a bit Freudian. Still, far more impartial and far improved over most choice systems.
Completed.
+1 survey response from me!

Does it make the world more dangerous if you answer aggressively or make more hidden objects if you have a curious personality or something?
Took the survey. Also, my favorite freeroam game that I've played would have to be Red Faction Guerrilla.

Nearly 100 responses so far guys, thanks to everyone that's taken part!
Fallout 3 was great, but it has lots of problems.
