I really want Doom 2 for the Gameboy now I have the first one, and it was always fun, so the second one couldn't be that bad, could it?
2nd one is much better, it adds such more that was lost in Doom 1 it feels like a full sequel.
I decided to buy the doom complete pack on steam a few days ago, ahh, the memories.
The Duke3D thread reminded me that someone is making a Duke3D weapon mod for Skulltag http://skulltag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=19164
I should be getting the id complete pack soon... hopefully
Ok, random flaming it is. Real mature...
I got addicted to Skulltag like a year ago. One wad I remember is Ghouls Forest(?) and I heard that the creator made a deathmatch called Ghouls vs Humans.
I got addicted to Skulltag like a year ago. One wad I remember is Ghouls Forest(?) and I heard that the creator made a deathmatch called Ghouls vs Humans.
He did, its very fun. Its just like Team Dm, but one Team is Ghouls, and one is Human. Sounds simple? I could see if i could dig up the link?
Welcome to the Doom Megathread! Since we have a Wolfenstein Megathread, and I enjoy making these - I thought I'd do one for Doom and Quake. You are currently in the Doom thread, congratulations! What is Doom!? Doom is a series of first-person shooter video games developed by id Software. The series focuses on the exploits of an unnamed space marine operating under the UAC (United Aerospace Corp.), who fights hordes of undead and demons in order to survive. The series was widely considered as one of the pioneering first-person shooter series in the video game industry, introducing features such as 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gameplay, and support for player-created expansions with the Doom WAD format. Since Doom, which was released in 1993, the series has spawned three sequels, numerous expansions and a film. Anything else I should know? Doom 1 and 2 were pretty Controvercial. At the time, their spriteful violence and demonic exploitation were down right, DEMONICAL... :siren:And Doom is not freeware, so don't believe anyone who says otherwise. :siren: [release]Doom (occasionally typeset as DOOM[1]) is a landmark 1993 first-person shooter computer game by id Software. It is widely recognized for popularizing the first person shooter genre, pioneering immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming, and support for custom expansions (WADs). Its graphic and interactive violence[2] has also made Doom the subject of much controversy reaching outside the gaming world. With a third of the game (9 levels) distributed as shareware, Doom was played by an estimated 10 million people within two years of its release, popularizing the mode of gameplay and spawning a gaming subculture; as a sign of its effect on the industry, games from the mid-1990s boom of first-person shooters are often known simply as "Doom clones". According to GameSpy, Doom was voted by industry insiders to be the greatest game of all time in 2004.[3] The Ultimate Doom, the retail store version of the game, adds a fourth episode, Thy Flesh Consumed, occurring after the three original episodes of Doom and before Doom II. This episode was developed by independent master level designers with id's approval, and was designed for expert Doom players seeking a major challenge. It is considerably more difficult than the original three episodes. The episode's plot is deliberately absurd, and takes place immediately after Doom and just before Doom II. The bunny seen impaled on the stake was the marine's pet "Daisy", and the player must take revenge for its death.[/release] [release]Doom II: Hell on Earth is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software. It was originally released on IBM PC compatibles on October 10, 1994. It is the sequel to Doom, which was released a year earlier. In 1995, Doom II won the Origins Award for Best Fantasy or Science Fiction Computer Game of 1994[1]. Unlike Doom which was initially only available through shareware and mail order, Doom II was a commercial release sold in stores. Master Levels for Doom II, an expansion pack that includes twenty one new levels, was released on December 26, 1995 by id Software[2]. Due to its popularity and success, Doom II has been released for numerous platforms, including the Amiga, Apple Macintosh, Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Nintendo Game Boy Advance. The release of the original Doom source code has facilitated ports to many other platforms, including the Apple iPod, and several types of cellphones.[/release] This is actually my favorite of the classic Doom series, it doesn't feel too long, I don't I just like it a lot more than Ultimate Doom. They're both great though [release]Final Doom is a first-person shooter video game that uses the game engine, items and characters from Doom II. It consists of two 32-level megawads (level files), The Plutonia Experiment by the Casali brothers, and TNT: Evilution by TeamTNT. Final Doom was released in 1996 and distributed as an official id Software product. In addition to the PC versions, Final Doom was also released for the PlayStation; that version included a selection of Final Doom and Master Levels for Doom II levels combined into one game.[/release] God I hate Final Doom, it is hard as fuck. Fuck it, fuck you. [release]Doom 64 is a video game for the Nintendo 64 released by Midway Games in 1997. It is part of the Doom first-person shooter video game series.[/release] It's Doom 1 but without blood and in it's place, sweat. Well apparently I'm wrong, my memories of Doom/2 blended with Doom 64, Doom 64 is it's own game according to PostmanX3 •"By the way, I'm fairly certain Doom 64 changed more than just the blood. In fact, I think it was an entire new set of levels and all. Like, you know, a completely new Doom game." -postmanX3 [release]Doom 3 is a science fiction horror video game developed by id Software and published by Activision. An example of the first-person shooter genre, Doom 3 was first released for Microsoft Windows on August 3, 2004.[4] The game was later adapted for Linux, as well as being ported by Aspyr Media for Mac OS X. Developer Vicarious Visions ported the game to the Xbox console, releasing it on April 3, 2005. British developers Splash Damage also assisted in design for the multiplayer elements of the game.[1] The game is a reboot of the Doom franchise, disregarding the storylines of the previous Doom video games. Doom 3 is set in 2145 on Mars, where a military-industrial conglomerate has set up a scientific research facility to develop fields such as teleportation, biological research and advanced weapons design. However, the teleportation experiments inadvertently open a gateway to Hell, resulting in a catastrophic invasion by demons. The player, an anonymous space marine, must fight through the base and find a way to stop demons from Hell attacking Earth.[5] Doom 3 features an award-winning game engine, id Tech 4, which has since been licensed out to other developers.[6] The game was a critical and commercial success for id Software; with more than 3.5 million copies of the game sold, it is the most successful game by the developer to date.[6][7] Critics praised the game's graphics and presentation,[8] although reviewers were divided by how close the gameplay was to that of the original Doom, focusing primarily on simply fighting through large amounts of enemy characters.[9] The game was followed by Resurrection of Evil, an expansion pack developed by Nerve Software in April 2005, while a Doom film loosely based on the series was released in October 2005. A series of novelizations of Doom 3, written by Matthew J. Costello, debuted in February 2008.[10][/release] I love Doom 3, everyone seems to hate it for some reason. I think it's good to have a high quality Generic Game every now and then. It's a great Qction game. This also has Co-Op, not only on the Console. But on the PC in form of a mod. It's fantastic, I recommend Bro-Oping with some bros as soon as possible. The Mod is Doom 3 Open-Coop [release]Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil is a first-person shooter video game developed by Nerve Software and id Software. It was released for the PC on April 3, 2005 as an expansion pack for Doom 3 and on October 5, 2005 for the Xbox video game console. The Xbox version does not require the original Doom 3 in order to play, and also inclueds the original DOOM, Doom II, and Master Levels for Doom II. The video game features eight-multiplayer game modes. Resurrection of Evil also features twelve new single player levels, six new enemies including the hunter, four new multiplayer maps as well as new weapons such as the double-barreled shotgun originating from Doom II.[/release] This also has Co-Op, not only on the Console. But on the PC in form of a mod. It's fantastic, I recommend Bro-Oping with some bros as soon as possible. The Mod is Doom 3 Open-Coop DOOM 4 [release]Doom 4 is the upcoming installment of the Doom series by id Software. The game is neither a sequel to Doom 3 nor a new beginning of the franchise. It will use the company's new id Tech 5 engine and was announced as in production on May 7, 2008,[2] following speculation by John Carmack at QuakeCon on August 3, 2007.[3] As with previous Doom games, Doom 4 will primarily be a showcase for the PC platform, with John Carmack stating that the PC version of Doom 4 will look significantly better than the console versions because of the power of high-end computer hardware.[4][/release] I am so excited, John Carmack stated that the Flashlight switching was due to his fears in framerate drops. So he basically said it wont return, I liked switching - it was atmospheric. [release]Doom RPG is a mobile phone game developed by Fountainhead Entertainment. It combines the Doom first-person shooter franchise with role-playing elements. The storyline incorporates many of the events of Doom 3, but involves different characters than those in the computer version. The game's engine was later used for another Fountainhead Entertainment title, Orcs & Elves.[/release] Ahhh, a great Cell Phone game indeed. I don't know if it's available anymore. But it was really fun. [release]Doom Resurrection is a first-person shooter survival horror game developed by Escalation Studios for the iPhone OS and published by id Software. It was released on 26 June 2009. John Carmack led the development team. The setting for Doom Resurrection takes place parallel to Doom 3, and it uses the characters and art of from the previously developed game.[1][/release] A great game. Horrible controls. Amazing Quality for a rail shooter and an iPhone game. [release]Chex Quest is a total conversion of the video game Doom (specifically Ultimate Doom). This game, notable for being the first video game ever to be included in cereal boxes as a prize, was found in boxes of Chex cereal in 1996.[1] In addition to the original game, Digital Café later made a sequel to Chex Quest called Chex Quest 2, which was only available for download on the Internet. Eventually the promotion ended and the game's availability effectively stalled until it was posted for download on fan pages several years later. In September 2008, a second sequel, Chex Quest 3 was developed and released as a service to fans by former Digital Café members Charles Jacobi (art director and lead artist) and Scott Holman (programmer).[2] [3] Within the active Chex Quest fan community, numerous unofficial projects have been undertaken and several completed. Examples which have arguably entered the fanon include a fan-made Chex Quest 4 (which for many years the author did not allow to be distributed), and such .wad and Game Maker sequels as Return of the Chex Warrior, Chex Quest Project, and the Chex Quest platformer. Aside from Chex Trek, almost all releases now run solely on the GZDoom engine. Chex Quest won both the Golden Reggie Award for Promotional Achievement and the Silver EFFIE Award for Advertising Effectiveness.[/release] It's Chex Quest... Enemies [release]Zombie Variant: Zombies are undead soldiers who have been turned into brain-dead killing machines by the demons. They are the only non-demonic enemies in the game as well as the only ones who drop ammunition (half the ammo of a fresh clip or a weapon pick-up) when killed (the dropped ammunition, however, can be lost if a door or crushing ceiling comes down on it). Owing to their usage of bullet weapons, zombies can be easily tricked into engaging in monster infighting with other creatures as well as their own kind. Former humans and sergeants will close the distance on their foe, and then circle, pausing every few steps to fire a shot. Commandos, however, once within line of sight of their foe, will continuously fire their chaingun, only rotating to adjust to their target's movements. Moving out of their line of sight, such as hiding behind a wall or using a lift, will break their lock and cease their firing, and they will be on the move to seek out their foe.[/release] [release]Imp: The Imp is the basic demonic enemy and common in all of the games because they appear in almost every level, where they appear with a relatively humanoid appearance. In the original games, Imps have brown skin, red eyes, and spikes on their shoulders, elbows and knees. They usually emit a hissing sound when alerted and have 60 HP. They attack at long distance by firing fireballs from their hands, and up close by scratching with sharp claws.[/release] [release]Pinky Demon (AKA Demon): The Pinky Demon in Doom 3 (a.k.a. Pinky) is very much different from its older versions. It has no visible nose or eyes, its horns point straight forward instead of out from the side of its head, walks on all fours in a canine style and has cybernetic rear legs. When it is summoned, it makes a screen-shaking effect when it roars. [/release] [release]Lost Souls: The Lost Soul in Doom 3 is a head-sized flying demon consisting of a human female face mounted on a flying rocket engine contraption. Its jaws are torn apart to allow it to open its mouth wider than a normal human could and its teeth have mutated to long, pointy monster teeth. The Resurrection of Evil expansion pack included a new monster called the Forgotten One, which bears a closer resemblance to the classic Lost Soul. [/release] [release]Cacodemon (AKA Strawberry): The Cacodemon in Doom 3, as compared to the original monster, is taupe in color, has a wider mouth, and has multiple green eyes, as well as some longer, thin tentacles hanging from the bottom of its body. Its brain is clearly visible on the top of its forehead. The Cacodemons are usually found in outdoor areas, although they can be encountered in relatively close-quarter indoor areas, as long as the ceiling is sufficiently high. They often appear in groups of 3 or more. [/release] [release]Revenant: Similar to the the original revenant, the Revenant in Doom 3 is a tall skeleton-like demon armed with a pair of shoulder-mounted missile launchers that fire relatively slow-moving homing missiles. Revenants first appear in Monorail Skybridge: Facility Transport. They are some of the game's more elite demon enemies, possessing good weapons and about twice as much health as a Imp or Wraith. Revenants are typically encountered individually or (uncommonly) in pairs, although they sometimes are accompanied by other demon enemies such as Imps or Z-Sec soldiers. Although not as common as more average demons such as Imps or Wraiths, several Revanants can still appear within a single level. They are especially common in the Resurrection of Evil levels. [/release] [release]Arch-Vile: The Arch-Vile in Doom 3 is a large, off-white coloured humanoid demon, standing a head taller than a normal human even in its standard semi-crouched pose. Its elongated arms are both terminated in bloody tumor-like bloated hands with huge, inward-retracted claws. It is capable of summoning many of the non-boss demons (though Imps & zombie commandos are more common). It can also slash its victims at close range, as well as fire a fast-moving column of fire that can seriously hurt the player, causing up to 20 points of damage. In some special cases, it is capable of making the ground erupt in flames underneath the player similarly to its original attack, but this time, it's possible to dodge it, although it requires that players are on the move constantly. [/release] [release]Cyberdemon: The Cyberdemon is the final boss and most powerful monster of Doom 3. It stands roughly 20 feet tall, more than 3 times as tall as a human soldier. Like its original counterpart, the Cyberdemon attacks by firing a salvo of 3 consecutive rockets from its arm-mounted rocket launcher. Unlike the original version, it can also step on the player, killing them instantly. [/release] :siren:I'll make the thread look better when I get on my own computer. Just dug up my old Doom 1 and 2 cds, what are some good source ports? I need something that runs on Linux, and I don't want 3d like Doomsday. Chocolate-doom is fine, but is there anything like that that has mouse aim/wasd controls? I'd like to keep Doom as vanilla as possible but still have modern controls.

I still play doom 1 and 3 form time to time. for fun and nostalgia.
I've heard of it, but I thought it was like a CTF Multiplayer only thing. Can it play through the single player game?
Skulltag can do CTF, DM, Team DM, Invasion (survive waves of demons), Coop, Survival (Coop but with only one life for each person). Im not sure of anymore.
You can play Single player with skulltag also. You can use skulltah to playtest maps made in Doom Builder. You can use Skulltag server browser to find yourself a suitable server. You can enable OpenGL for better lighting and stuff... and so on
I'm bumping this thread because Doom is awesome, and I have a question: What the fuck happened to Doom Classic on the iPhone? The game's been practically done for months. Back in April, we were told straight from John Carmack himself that the game would be on App Store in a month or so. What the hell is taking so long? Where did it go?
He said in the Rage interview that it is coming soon. Inhate all controls for the id iPhone games. They suck. Wolfenstein RPG works though.
He said in the Rage interview that it is coming soon. Inhate all controls for the id iPhone games. They suck. Wolfenstein RPG works though.
I thought they were fine. Doom Resurrection worked perfectly. Wolfenstein 3D Classic worked pretty well. If Doom uses the same style of control, I'd be all for it. Especially with the customization it offers, then it's impossible to complain because you can always just change it to what you want. Also, can I have a link to this interview?
Bumping this because I found a DOOM modification that is awesome. It's called Psychic, basically, it turns DOOM into an Action RPG when you kill monsters, they drop coins, these coins can be used to upgrade your weapons and buy Psychic powers, the animations are the best I've ever seen and you can use it with all DOOM wads. Download: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=21681 Screenshots and a trailer are on there. Requires an SVN build of zDoom.
Meh. I rather Doom as run and gun instead of caring about upgrading stuff.
Hey I have DOOM for my pc and I can't play any of my DOOM 2 wads cuz my damn computer has it set to open with doom95.When I right click the wad and try to change the program to gzdoom,it completly ignore it like I never clicked on it.It will let me change the program to open it to any program BUT gzdoom>.> Can someone help? K I was able to get it to change the program to zdoom...but now no matter what wad I click on it opens ACM-Demo.wad
I wanna play Doom 3 Co-Op with a friendly but every time I host a server he cannot find it. Protips? Also, Last Man Standing or D3 Open Co-Op?
