What a great game it was for its time. Still is now a days.
I mentioned this book in other threads before, but it still fits into here. Anyone interested in the making of DOOM, Commander Keen and Quake should read "Masters of DOOM". It's a great book and shows of most of what happened at id during the development. I bought that to read on the airplane today.
Cool, this thread is still here. I cant wait till Quakecon, and the info we shall get about Doom 4. However, i am worried they will take it the Doom 3 route, survival horror. Thats not Doom. Doom was about running through rooms, guns blazing, splattering demons everywhere until you ran out of ammo, and heroically trying to take a few monsters to Hell with you was Doom. Walking around a corridor, which is exactly the same as all the other corridors, having a zombie pop out, and you hiding around a corner until its close enough to turn off your flashlight and attack isnt Doom, its shit.
I do not agree with you and I am confident in my belief that id does not agree with your opinion on what makes Doom, Doom.
I like how you disagreed with me politely. Have a heart.
It is my job. Doom 3 I enjoy. But PAINKILLER is more Doom 3 in your opinion than Doom 3 is
Well, we all have differing opinions on things. I dont like Doom 3, i feel its too far from the originals. It adds a clear story to a series that relies on its fast paced, no time to stop attitude. That being said, if Doom 4 is the same style of Doom 1 and 2, with running and gunning, and little to no story, i can only see it failing in todays market against games that heavily rely on their storylines, like Halo, or Half Life. Its your opinion though, and im not going to try and change it. Does that make sense? It didnt seem to when i re read it.
It couldn't not make sense.
Ok?
Yes
Doom 3 was fucking boring. Painkiller was indeed more like a Doom sequel than Doom 3 was.
Doom is an amazing game, even in today's time. Way better than many FPS games released today.
John Carmack is a really irritating man for not giving us Doom 4 news...
Could someone upload the Ultimate Doom and Doom II WADs to filesmelt? I want to play them on Zdoom but I haven't had my own computer for quite a while and I want to play them during my freeperiod at school. I do own all the Doom games as you can see on my steam profile. I just can't get on steam using the school computers. Thanks in advance [editline]02:59PM[/editline] It must be filesmelt and in a .zip. I can give you a BitGamer invite if you want, it's all I have
No it would not. [editline]03:13PM[/editline] I own the games, I'm not distributing them illegally. And if you own them too, you wouldn't be either. So no
Yes it would. Just go download Freedoom.
How would it be illegal? It's the same thing as me downloading it from my steam account, but instead of steam I download it on Filesmelt. I own the game, the method in which I play or obtain after purchase matters not towards the legality of it [editline]03:40PM[/editline] As long as I do not steal it from a store if DooM were still in stores
Cacodemon (AKA Strawberry): The Cacodemon in Doom 3
Man I think you aren't eating strawberries if you think a cacodemon looks like one.
Distribution is what's illegal. The way piracy works is that it's not illegal for you to download copyrighted works so long as you do not distribute them. You break the EULA, but that's not a legally binding document, and you didn't purchase the shit anyway so what do you care. What makes bittorrent bad is that, as a function of the protocol itself, you have to distribute the files you are downloading to the other peers of the torrent. HTTP downloads are okay for the end user, but not for the person who hosted the download, because they are illegally distributing copyrighted material. So, unless the files were available for free on the internet already, nobody is going to upload them for you and post the link on this forum. But you have access to Google just like the rest of us, I'm sure you can figure something out.

I'm pretty sure Doom didn't have any EULA [editline]03:53PM[/editline]
Just because you own it doesn't mean someone else who doesn't own it won't download it.
PM
I'm pretty sure it does.
There's no EULA to agree to when you install or play it on steam.
There's no EULA to agree to when you install or play it on steam.
That doesn't matter. I only mentioned the EULA in passing. It's not a legally binding document and is of no concern to most people. However, the law is a different thing entirely, and it is against the law, at least in the united states, to distribute copyrighted material without having permission to do so. And none of us own the copyright to Doom. You have access to Google. You could have figured this out for yourself a long time ago. I would stop posting about this and move on.
this is where i can post my doom 3 walkthroughs right??? thanks
Did they fix the bugs for DOOM III BFG on Xbox or is that HD Remake still got bugs ( I bought the game on sale just want to make sure before I open it up )
