My brother got banned for downloading a skin pack and he didn't realise that it had a wallhack in it. So when he went on the server he thought his skins were mucked up as he had glass walls
Now that sucks.
You didn't disable VAC and your god mode hack got you banned. There is nothing you can do about it. You'll have to make a new account and buy your games again.
Why do you need godmode for bots? They're piss easy to kill.
VAC doesn't ban for using console commands, it only bans when it detects that a critical game file has been modified.
Go to support.steampowered.com and email VALVe about the problem.
would he not need some proof that he wasn't cheating?
would he not need some proof that he wasn't cheating?
He should just follow whatever advice VALVe would give. Nothing more, nothing less.
VAC needs a warning system. Like an hour before your getting banned it warns you to delete the files. It should also tell you where the files are located. And to prevent the problem of deleting and re-downloading next time they wont give you a warning.

And the warning comes AFTER you turn on your computer

The whole point of VAC was to stop exploiters from knowing which memory edit/ exploit banned them, it's an anonymous delayed ban for a reason. Adding a warning allows them to tell other exploiters "Oh yeah don't edit this piece of memory during run time, it bans you".
but what valve will tell him is to format his HDD and rebuy the gams on a new account
You can't be banned for that, ever.
However there have been false positives in the past. For example, someone from the Bay 12 Games forums was using a memory editing app for Dwarf Fortress and loaded up TF2 while it was still running, and it got detected as a cheat and he was VAC'd.
The ban was reversed after he explained, however. So if you were running anything else that could set off the detector, send in a steam support ticket.
Weird, my friend was just VAC banned yesterday for no reason. He just bought DoD:S, joined a server, and was immediately VAC'd.
VAC cannot do false positives as it only bans for KNOWN cheats aka programs manually added into the database. Reformat your computer, make a new steam account, re buy games. Do it during the sale, too.
Hell just buy the Valve Complete Pack.

But Hack makers already know that if the hack is a .dll or an .exe then it will get detected. So a warning system would be fair as long as you get 1 warning and if you reinstall hacks it will just do a delayed ban.

Add memory change there, get warning.
Add memory change here, didn't get a warning, that's a safe zone.
See where it's going? Then they can out of testing make sure their hacks or cheats are VAC safe.
Trial and error. Unless Valve added an invisible strikes system, one strike, you get warned to remove the hacks, second strike it gives you another warning, and so on until a certain number is reached. The number being anything between 2 and 5 warnings. (Changes depending on time since joining and played hours total)
-snip-
You should talk about this with Valve.
I guess people don't understand non-VAC servers that well. You will still get VAC'd if you hack on them. The only thing that sv_insecure means, is whether VAC'd people can play on it or not. I was VAC'd after hacking on non-VAC servers.
I think they should make unbans possible.
Why would they want to do that? They make more money when you have to rebuy the game.
everything is unfair in life. deal with it

Not possible, Valve support doesn't see what you got banned for, so they have no reason to believe you. Also,
All VAC bans are permanent - Valve has a zero-tolerance policy for cheating and will not lift VAC bans under any circumstances.
Hold up guys, I realized you can't use god mode in CS:S, doesn't work.
There were temporal bans, and by that I mean 1-year-long bans. But people keep cheating and cheating...
Hold up guys, I realized you can't use god mode in CS:S, doesn't work.
Mystery.
:iiam:
Well, what happened was a combination of really fucking weird and really fucking stupid. I got VAC-ed, cleared my cache, and then got un-VAC-ed the next day for no reason whatsoever.
I am fairly positive I didn't do anything wrong in the first place, so y'know, something effed up.
[editline]10:27PM[/editline]
And by "got un-VAC-ed", I mean I joined a versus server and it worked.
I think it has to do with the clientregystry.blob file
VAC banning is crap. It either fucks up or doesnt even work.
VAC banning is crap. It either fucks up or doesnt even work.
It does work very well, at least it's not like shitbuster.
VAC banning is crap. It either fucks up or doesnt even work.
I have had a steam account for 5 years and it has never crossed my path?
I've never came across a hacker... I don't play CS:S though so I maybe dodged that one as they seem to swarm that game.
I'm a good person.
I got banned unfairly because I was playing on my own lan counter strike using sv_cheats 1 and god mode with only bots! And everyone that I talked to about this said that shouldnt count as a ban. So does any one think that this is a false positive (or whatever it is)ban and its unfair?
Everyday threads like this get made. What the posters fail to realize is that they've been lying to themselves all along. Get outta here. You didn't get banned for dev commands... on your own server... with bots and no ppl...
