The AI in this game annoys me sometimes. The enemy attacks me while I'm sieged right, and what do they do? Drop their siege weapons and make ranks waiting for me. They attacked me, and they want me to come out of my castle?
Same.
To get to America you have to build Carracks or Grande Carracks. They're available in the highest shipyard. Just load em up and sail em over the edge. The fog of war will clear as they get close.
Anyone know how to unlock all the units? I really, really, don't feel like going through a campaign as england or any of the other boring countries. That said, Scotland's got around 1.5k units to kill, time for a full conquest!

Except the Papal States and France... I have 50 turns left to finish the campaign with Portugal and I'm ruling this thing, man! JUST CHOOSE A COUNTRY AND PLAY. Except France. :v:

Cavalry win wars, sissy archers don't.
Turn on battle time limits and wait for them to lose.
I have it on, but I use my time worn strategy to win anyways. 4 groups of ballista, use them to take out their archers, and then the usual battle tactics. The AI doesn't react if you hit it with ballista's, I don't really get it haha.
The AI doesn't react if you do a lot of things. I parked a pair of catapults next to their general one time and shelled it to death.
The AI doesn't react if you do a lot of things. I parked a pair of catapults next to their general one time and shelled it to death.
I did that with horse archers once. I just surrounded the General's unit with them and let them rain death. Does anyone have any tips for destroying the Golden Horde and Timurids as England? I am having a tough time due to lack of anti cavalry and heavily armored soldiers. My best bet has been to recruit the Turkoples and shit from around the Middle East and try and fight them with that. I was able to oust them from Jerusalem, Gaza, and Acre that way. However they went on their shitty ride again and winded up like a Province above me, and between me and the Horde, destroyed the Templar Order. Now they have like billions of soldiers and I don't know how to fight them.
English heavy billmen are OK against most things, and you should have some good mercenary spearmen to recruit from places. You might also consider using some diplomacy, csll a crusade against them or something, or ask the pope to help you in your fight. The other option is to use longbowmen to take care of their archer cavalry, the stakes will help against regular cavalry and the arrows are longer ranged than most weapons in the game, so you can pick them off when they attack, or try using musketeers, they have long range, and armor if I remember right. In a square fight, good heavy infantry will beat heavy cavalry in most cases, it's only the charge you need spearment to beat.
I prefer being Scotland over England, but I like neither. I prefer to be Hungary, Russia or Byzantine. At the moment, me and my friend plays Hotseat in the grand campaign. Me : Hungary He : Denmark.

England is unfortunate as the celtic races go because it doesn't have any psycho axe infantry, which is frankly an unforgivable sin. All celtic races must have at least one psycho axe infantry unit, like galloglaichs, or landsknecht, or just any infantry with a big weapon that serves only to charge everywhere.
You mean like Berserkers from Barbarian invasion?
Yeah, those were sort of the epitome of psycho axe infantry.

Having war with no other than Rebels, or independents which it's called in the mod. don't go like "Oh my fucking god, a mod? You mean like a easy shit mod with prices like 10 florins/ building?" No, the mod is seriously 6X harder. Dirt roads costs 3000 gold, and that's the lowest price. :(, However, it's really funny because hotseat is awesome.

Even though it is an English Pope(having a master Theologins Guild ensures that each turn I can pop out a potential Cardinal), I wage too much war on Catholics(I own Germany and West, except for Middle and Southern Italy). I might try shipping some Arquebuisers over to Jerusalem, but that will take a long time, considering I have to send them from London to Caen, all the way through France, then across the Mediterranien by boat. Hopefully my soldiers can hold up until I can get some of those and maybe some Demi Lancers and Retinue Longbows.

Effective...but costly :v:

If you set gunpowder units to skirmish mode, the front row will fire, kneel to reload, and the 2nd row will fire over their heads. This is AMAZINGLY effective and totally awesome, except it makes the gunners run like hell if but a single units comes close. Either do it out of range in the rear with long ranged guns like Musketeers, or use them as defensive light infantry. The best gunners to use as light infantry are Portuguese Arqubusiers, because they are basically sword-and-buckler men with guns, and they look totally awesome. I tried modding in a similar unit except it used the Forlorn Hope model and was a Musketeer for the HRE but it didn't work and screwed up my Total War. Anyone know how to make such a unit, and if so, could you make it for me and send it to me?
Yeah, those were sort of the epitome of psycho axe infantry.
Hmm... I have a feeling England didn't have Berserkers, but I do agree that England/Scotland did need a more "barbaric axe man"

Ive just got the game
England isn't a Celtic race, they are Norman, so they are French, and for a long time that is the language they spoke.
They are only very recently norman, as the norman invader king is still alive at the time of the game. Every other faction on the isles has the standard celtic/barbarian units, but england doesn't. That's how you're supposed to use muskets, but for some reason they default to having the first line run round the back to bring the second line forward. How many lines does the kneel and fire work for?

I think it really gets odd when the group is just a big mess of men, because like half of them will shoot at once through the gaps. What I like to do is set 2 units of gunners in a 2x60/whatever line, and have the 2 lines actually be inside each other, with 1 group in the spaces between the first group's men. This forms a dense line of gunners which takes up less space, and gets a shitton more bullets downrange. I think it can be even more effective if you make 1 group hold fire for a few seconds, so they're always shooting instead of both reloading at the same time.

Ahh, I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning. Another good tactic is putting them behind some pikemen, notably Tercio pikemen and musketeers(although it will work with any pikemen and with arquebuisers, as long as you aren't against muskets) work great together if you are spain. Put in some Sword + Buckler men, some cavalry at the flanks, and a catapult or 2, and you have a winning army(as long as you don't have to move). Just place the Tercio, Muskets, and Sword Buckler in one unit(so 3 units in one clumped group), and then the the musketeers are protected from cavalry(pikes), the pikes are protected from heavy infantry(the sword and buckler men), all the while raining death on the advancing army. Plus if the enemy has longbows(the only missile that outrages the musket IIRC), the pikes take most of the missile damage, protecting you muskets. The only worry you should have is artillery taking shots at your clumped units(a few catapult boulders can break their formation up easily), and your flanks. As long as you can protect against those 2 you are set against any soldiers(except of course elephants, and I haven't tested against missile cavalry yet).
Needs more norway, needs more vikings!
I got kicked out of dublin, the irish must not like all my men drinking there guinness
Needs more norway, needs more vikings!
The viking age was pretty much over by that point.

I used that tactic too, and it is actually part of the real Tercio formation iirc.
