does the short grand campaign end when i destroy 2 factions or run out of turns can i still continue
WOOH DENMARK! Vikings are epic.
hmm, seems denmark rules most of europe. Or it will when i get this game!
The viking age was pretty much over by that point.
So? Everybody loves vikings :yarr:
Not behind the men themselves, but rather in front of the men with the pikes sticking out in front. I used that tactic too, and it is actually part of the real Tercio formation iirc.
I got some pictures to illustrate it, Notice how I have those musketeers right behind the crouched down pike line. I had too many musketeers and swordsmen when I made the army, so I just stuck them to the side, also I only have 1 cavalry, which is something you definatly need more of! Otherwise watch as the enemy sends soldiers around the flank and completely destroy the Tercio formation. No artillery either, which is always a good idea to have. I personally always have a few cannon units, I just put them far away. They're generally disposable, I just train some more if they die.

I think Catapults work best(they are my favorite not gundpowder siege unit), just put a few on flaming missile and get them to hit the enemy. I have never tested Ribaults in the line, I would think the piece of artillery would block the soldiers from fighting when the enemy closes in. I will try it. EDIT: I just loaded up the Long Road. God fucking damn, dirt roads cost 3000 florins. What the fuck? I'm lowering the fucking prices to something reasonable. I hate mods that make everything uber cheap or uber expensive. Now I just have to find out how to change the prices.
Also, I hate the pope.
Yeah, the pope is such a bitch. My ideology doesn´t include a whiney old man on a throne commanding the greatest empire in the known world.
Do the mods work on the steam version?

It was really devastating but isn't good against fast moving armies. On bridge maps it's hilariously overpowered.
Sorry for bump, but i need some help. How the fuck do i beat this?
Sorry for bump, but i need some help. How the fuck do i beat this?
Well as your generals don't produce nuclear explosions when they die like they do in supreme commander, I'd say get as far away from them as possible, let the other races whittle them down, then try zerging them with as many cavalry as possible. Missile cavalry is a pain in the arse to kill because you can only catch the buggers with light cavalry, and they tend to get shot to bits if you try. So I'd suggest heavy armored units to withstand the missile barrages. Maybe some pikemen or something that can do a schiltrom, with some archers in the middle. You could also try the good old fashioned box formation with spears on the outside and as many ranged units as possible in the middle, pavise crossbows for preference. You could also try routing them, gunfire, flaming arrows, all sorts of things. Getting them to charge your dudes head on and then crushing them from the sides with cavalry charges while peppering them with shot and arrows would be a good choice.
I was able to beat a few Mongol armies in the field as the Papal States, my armies were made up of like 2 cavalry units, 6 crossbow militia units, and the rest as Swiss Guard. Swiss Guard at the bottom of a slope in a big, thick line, crossbows slightly hire so they can fire over the heads, and cavalry in the flanks to chase away mounted archers. Set em on spearwall, counter the first charge, then take them OFF defensive and tell them to march past the horde. That usually wipes the floor. This was my standard army, cause Swiss Guard are trainable in cities and are very versatile, just use a comparable unit like halberdiers. I wouldn't trust pikemen, if the horses get past the spears they'll force the pikemen to use swords, and will get run down. In my experience you can't get spearmen to work real well because the Mongols just run straight through them. If you have a unit that can lay stakes, just do that in a big circle and hide in the middle. It's kinda cheating, but it works. You can also do this in gatehouses, deploy stakes in front and behind the door and have a unit stand in the door to trick the Mongols to run through.
If you have a unit that can lay stakes, just do that in a big circle and hide in the middle. It's kinda cheating, but it works.
It's not cheating, it's a totally valid defensive tactic.

It's the best game you can ever play to enjoy destroying nations.
Excellent game. Heavy cavalry are a bit strong, though, even against spearmen. I have all but conquered the map as the Holy Roman Empire. Mongols and Timurids seem unbeatable, though.
I annihilated the Mongols and took Europe before the timurids even arrived, it was a slaughter when they first showed up and now I am on my way to taking America from the Aztecs.
That game is so extremely awesome. I got it a few weeks ago and I'm lovin' it. I chose England and I already conquered the scots and I'm almost conquering these damn french. I also have Jerusalem, Gaza and Acre (I think it's Acre)
Something i have always wondered Do you thing this will run on a Nvidia 6200?
im running it on a 6150
Woo, I'm resintalling this game now. I haven't played it since I ragequit because my old PC could barely run it. Thanks, this thread!
I wish my pc could run this! :crying:
People say the Timurids and Mongols are impossible to defeat, but I've found it gets all too easy if you send an army of assassins :v: I've managed to defeat the Mongols in about 5 turns by mobbing their generals with viscous murderers. Mongols are actually quite fun to defend castles against though. My favourite tactic as England is just to set up stakes at the gate, and when the battering rams get down the gate, the Mongol cavalry comes flooding through and the resulting slaughter is the funniest thing ever.
Wasn't this game used once on a British TV show that let people re-enact Historical Battles and tell some people on a computer where to move the troops like they were a real General, made for some epic battles, to bad they stopped showing it.
Hehe, I remember a documentary on discovery channel, about Alexander The Great. They used Rome Total War as a simulator! :v:

(by the way, Cossack musketeers are the best unit EVER.)

Unless they had another show with Medieval, in which case why haven't I seen it yet
Oh! I remember that, for a long time I thought it was Empire Earth, before I knew Total War existed. No wait, it was Time Commanders.
Musketeers can't shoot over other troops. That's a horrible idea.
It's actually called a Tercio formation and it works wonderfully. Musketeers will shoot through the gaps (it's better to have them slightly in front of the pikemen). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tercio I like how history can be put to effective use in Total War games.
Wow I can't wait for Empire: Total War, it's gonna be off the chain
Just got the game. I really enjoyed playing as England.
