I like modding this, to change some things, ie 0 turn recruitment, game ends in the year 999999
I love this game, the sieges are awesome. A good alternative to wait until I get Empire :D
Do some information about kingdoms. In kingdoms, you can do the campaign map online. In fact, we need to have a facepunch game of the campaign map. Imagine it! Each user a nation, 30 users. It'd take about 300 years to finish, but it'd be lawlz
Hey I bought it on Steam for like 3 bucks, can anyone suggest me some good mods which greatly increase the gameplay value? I don't have Kingdoms though.
It's a real pity that next up is Napolean.
It's a real pity that next up is Napolean.
Why? [editline]09:27PM[/editline] One of the best mods for this by far is Stainless Steel.
I love this game. I destroyed everything except Europe as England in one game, and now focus vast armies upon the Holy Roman Empire. I've got another game going as France where I have taken over Spain and most of the Islamic territories, and everyone else is allied with me. Also, retrofit mod is quite good. Adds cool stuff from kingdoms into the original game.
Can I install Retrofit for the simple Medieval? The description says I need Kingdoms.
Well since Retrofit mod is basically adding Kingdoms' campaign features into Medieval II then of course you'll need it.
Venice is the most badass, personally.
I love Scottland.
I wish you could play countries like Wales, Ireland and Norway in the main campaign. I wanna make some badass Viking empire. :saddowns:
There are some mods that allows you to do that. I can't remember perfectly, but I think that the mod Deus lo Vult adds Ireland to the mix.
It's one of the best total war games in my opinion! I remember a specific battle which started of largely to my disadvantage! i was playing as scotland and i was trying to keep the peace with england atleast until i had conquered the rebel provinces around me. they wouldn't let that happen as they took York from me so i sent my main army to take it back and they met me out on the field! My army was about a 1000 men strong with mostly weak troops like militias and a few light cavalry while they actually had three separate armies, one main army with 2000 men and 2 others with about 500. like i said, the battle started off largely to my disadvantage but luckily the three armies came in after one another so i actually had time to kick one army out before the other came in. I was playing on hard. I really had to do some serious tactics to make it out alive!

[editline]08:07PM[/editline]
I really had to do some serious tactics to make it out alive!
once did a 1200 saxons versus 3 armies 2500 strong franks. was a siege. got 8000 kills and had 600 remaining. shield wall rocks. basically fortified the town square and waited them out. one of them charged down a bottlenecked street. i rode my single cav unit out the other street, around, and down the street. mashing them against the shield wall. about 1500 casualties in about 5 minutes i only used 200 soldiers for that. i felt awesome. the rest was a waiting game. and my troops thinned out but i made it.
I love this game. I just started playing it again as I bought the Steam version in the sales (my previous DVD copy of the game is now unplayable thanks to installing Mirror's Edge... fucking EA and their stupid disk protection crap). I'm mostly playing Third Age: Total War which is easily one of the best mods I have ever played. Seriously good stuff. The High Elves are amazing. I had an army of 700 vs 2000 Orcs and won with 300 losses. Then again, it's a lot of fun to play as Mordor for the shear joy of the horde attack.

I WANT this mod!
Total war is one of the best RTS game series ever. Got Medieval 1, Medieval 2, Rome and Empires. So the only one missing is Shogun. FYI the next to come is Napoleon.
Damn, I'd better get kingdoms then. Ie: Borrow it from my friend. >.> I want to play Third Age mod, I remember there was one for Rome Total war as well, but I couldn't get it to work. EASTERLINGS!
The only downsides to the mod is the campaign, which is really poorly balanced, and some of the voice acting/lack of new voice-acting in places. There are some balancing issues too, with Mumakil and the Balrogs being far too invincible. The rest of it is amazing though.
that mod has been the wet dream of anyone who saw the helms deep battle since 2001. sad thing is helm's deep isn't featured yet if ever. i really wanted to play TA:TW once. but back then my lappy couldn't run it. now, i haven't got time for ages to come because of Dragon age, fallout 1,2,3, TF2, R:TW. i'll play it next year. i read some AAR of the dwarven kingdom. appearently they are as sturdy as a walking fortress if you use them correctly.
Yes it's a shame buildings haven't been modelled in the RTS aspect of the mod yet. Oh well, we're still in Beta after all!
I think it's been released allright! http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=253976 and some patches to go with too! And the balrog should be hard i think! they made Gandalf freaking shit his pants!
That Third Age: Total War mod looks fucking amazing.
