Me and deathrat were playing on the test server for a bit. Didn't do much since the server at that moment was unbearably laggy
Jedi can wear armor again.
Galaxies is fine if you didn't play before the NGE. I like it, a lot to explore. Although, I look at what my friends who played NGE and their creature handeling and stuff. Shit looked soooo cash.
One of the best parts was that being a different species actually meant something. Usually, if you wanted to get excellent buffs to get rid of fatigue and replace energy, go to a Twi'lek. Zabraks and Humans made a whole lot of good shit, namely weapons and armor, occasionally clothing, all came with weaved-in buffs like increased defense or reduced decay. If you were a Wookie, you were a tough motherfucker, but God help you try to communicate, because if no one around understood Wookie, you were fucked. Everyone would just hear "WaAAAaaaaaoooh RRRAAAAaaaoooo" and stuff. You had to learn languages, if they only spoke that one. Wookie was a must in most cases.
yeah, but the only people who wouldn't have learned all the languages would be noobs, or someone who just likes seeing all the gibberish.
I played SWG. Only after the NGE, though. Was it really that awesome Pre-CU?
I played SWG. Only after the NGE, though. Was it really that awesome Pre-CU?
Yes. It's all true. I personally think that Star Wars Galaxies was a better MMO pre-NGE and CU than World of Warcraft was in its entirety. There was an emphasis on community instead of missions and loot that made it unique, and they took it all away. Why they can't make a SWG2 or something and just remake the first with better graphics, I have no idea.
Why they can't make a SWG2 or something and just remake the first with better graphics, I have no idea.
Not Star warsy and iconic enough, AKA isn't WoW style so can't compete with WoW. Which is what got us the fucking NGE in the first place.
It was during permadeath when I was secretly training my Jedi skills on Yavin 4 with a doctor and a rifleman at my side at all times that I realized I was playing an incredibly kick-ass version of KOTOR. There was this one extremely persistent bounty hunter that kept on coming after me no matter how many times we incapacitated him and moved on. After an unusually long time gap, we thought he decided to give up, but he eventually showed up with a full 20 person group of his Imperial friends, all sporting stormtrooper and AT-ST pets. I was close to Jedi Master at the time (although I never actually achieved it, due to the fact that it required apprenticeship xp and Jedi could never earn that) so we were actually able to defeat them, barely. Basically, even a force of that magnitude wasn't enough for a double bladed lightsaber made exclusively of perfect krayt pearls, combined with everything else at my disposal. The amount of power you had at that point was definitely appropriate to the rarity of Jedi. I suppose soon enough that system would have been completely ridiculous though, but while it worked, it was amazing. Anyway, I hope there's another MMO with SWG's level of freedom some day. I have no hope for The Old Republic, because it's quite obviously going to take on Bioware's "Either you're fighting or you're talking" strategy. I'm one who enjoyed things like prospecting for metal and setting up extractors, hunting for rare pets, and whatnot. Actually at one point I had an extremely rare giant snake. I didn't find anyone who knew it even existed until I showed it to them. They only spawned near Moenia, and it took weeks to find a baby. Damn that thing was huge. Alright, I'll shut up now. I can't believe a video game can bring back such vivid memories.
I remember in a Pre-Cu megabattle, a whole bunch of Jedi invaded Mos Eisely. Me and my Imperial friends made a wall to block their advance, and we never stopped shooting. Eventually there were just 2 sides of the battle, separated by about 20m of space. On one side, there were a whole bunch of people shooting, and on the other side, a whole bunch of Jedi doing lightsaber block. In the end we lost, because they flanked us with about 3 Jedi.

[editline]03:28PM[/editline] I demand that everyone post the servers that they were on. Yes, But that's what Jedi were, overpowered. Not anymore, now SWG is basically a Jedi Academy MMO I'm really hoping The Old Republic maintains the Standard that Bioware and Lucasarts have when they create Star Wars games
Bioware tends to be good with that. They're one of the few companies that doesn't turn out mindless clone-games over and over. I'm looking at you, EA.
I wonder if my house is still on Naboo. I quit right around the NCE, and I remember I went to see if my old friends were still on. They weren't. Theed, on Naboo, the Starport entrance that used to be packed with people, about 250+ at a time, was barren. A lone Wookie asking for help with a mission. Went to the cantina; nothing. Drove off into the plains on a speeder, and where was once City Lane, a path of populated cities all interconnected ecomonically and socially, was a scattered, broken, empty shell of its former glory. That's another good memory; when Naboo was constantly being fought over, whichever faction won, that factions members that lived along City Lane organized a celebratory parade, and kick-ass sales on items was made. Parties in cantinas, speeches by mayors. It was grand. Even though the road was made up of both Imperials and Rebels, we had a peace that was prosperous for everyone. There was also a resident Jedi who lives in one of the main towns making up City Lane. He pretty much kept the peace. When a dude can Force lightning 3 speeders and blow them up in like 10 seconds, you better throw in the towel. I was on the Shadowfire server.
I remember when a friend of mine was messing temps in the CU, finally found the Diamond build. Went around Mos Eisly calling everyone noobs and a whole plethora of words, till he started pissing people off and they challenged him to a duel. In which he stomped them, over and over. So they called the Jedi in, he took 3 full temp jedi on at the same time and beat them all in less than 2 minutes. I laughed so hard when they called him a hacker. Think I still have his temp on a piece of paper somewhere. I miss him :( He was my best friend in SWG, only one that stayed with me deep into the NGE. I never would of stayed in the NGE as long as I did without him.
So, who wants to form an FP guild on the SWG-Emu test server?
I'm up for it.
Post a link for the test server. When is Suncrusher going up?
Post a link for the test server. When is Suncrusher going up?
They've been working on the emulator for a while so don't get your hopes up for Suncrusher to be up soon.
How well does the emulator run? Is it worth getting and reinstalling the game for? I still have my Star Wars Galaxies Collector's Edition.

Miss this game how it was. Can't wait for the Emu to be finished.
You know, I don't think I'd play the emulator even if they perfectly recreated it. A lot of the fun I had was caused by the fairly large population, interacting with newbies and simply the wonder of finding new things in the game. Now I know just about every single thing about the game, and playing it again will just bring back better memories than I'll be able to have now.

Opportunities, Discovery, Founding the new Corporation/Guild, Getting the rare shit while it's still common. SWG Will never go back to that. The emulator won't even have as many players compared to the Station SWG now. The Station SWG doesn't even have that big a playerbase compared to the old days so.... I doubt that The Old Republic will capture that feel either. Bioware has always had 2 approaches to a situation. That that they're bad approaches but they just won't allow for the freedom. I doubt there will be an ingame housing system, pets, or anything of that sort. It'd be nice but I doubt it. I'd like to try out SWG again some day though. I was hacked a few years back and never bothered to remake an account (Level 89, fully stocked house, pets, rides, yacht, maximum Imperial level, rare crystals, the list goes on). How is the game today compared to 4 years ago? I heard they added a Space Station and Hoth but that's about it?
How is the game today compared to 4 years ago? I heard they added a Space Station and Hoth but that's about it?
A space station that serves no purpose and is a rehash of the tutorial space station. Hoth, after how many years of asking? Was given to us, in the form of a big instance, rebel VS imperial, rebels get to have "planetary flight" (my ass it is) in the snow speeders, imperials get to pilot the ATATs or whatever. All in all, shit, not worth so many years of waiting, ect. They've added all kinds of new shit to the game (by new I mean they re-skined most of it) but to get it you have to use their trading card game, which of course means you have to buy the packs to get any of the items. The only thing they added that was worth a shit was the freedom to use the storyteller props and the ability to save your creations, only thing they have done right IMO. EDIT: You should know how it was compared to 4 years ago, you played the NGE after all lol.
Bioware will make good star wars MMO i hope [editline]04:46AM[/editline] When The old republic is out you have people with the name darthrevan1337xxXjedimasterXxx
Bioware will make good star wars MMO i hope
I think the thing here, is that they will make a decent start wars MMO, they just won't make something as shattering as SWG (which I think is going to be the main complaint with that game). Personally, TOR is far too WoWish for me, won't be playing it long term. I'd rather it just be KOTOR with multiplayer.
