Sort of, It's not Bethesda, though, I think they gave out a contract, didn't they?
called "Crossplayer"

I think some other company is making a fallout mmorpg.
But it's strongly rumored that bethesda is making an elderscrolls MMORPG. Which is a fucking shame. They need to get working on TES5.
why, ever, would they make an MMORPG? they can't even make a proper HL2:EP3.
Surprised no one has made a Mod for this yet
You can't mod a HL2 MMORPG.
Sort of, It's not Bethesda, though, I think they gave out a contract, didn't they?
I believe it is Interplay, the original creators of Fallout.
I am so disappointed in you, if your going to troll, atleast TRY.
wow if you're going spell right at least try
No, they should make Episode 3.
Make it co-op. Have one player be Alyx, and another be Gordon. Alyx gets an automatic pistol with infinite ammo, and Gordon gets the ability to use armor.
Cross-player.
A TF2 themed MMO would make me their slave
If you want to really roleplay as whatever MAYEB U SHUD GO ONE GMOD AND DRKRP /caps
Also great job bumper

Wow, great 4 month bump you idiot.
I remember hearing something about Valve wanting to make an MMORTS or something like that, but then they remembered they had TF2 updates to do.
Portal as an mmo would be insane. Not good, per-se, just insane.
snip
I've said this before in this thread: A Left4Dead MMO would be a brilliant idea as Valve could use the excellence of Steam to run it.
Wouldn't it be great to customise a voice for your character by adding your own or using a pre-made one and tweaking it? It would be brilliant if executed properly.

But TF2 is an MMO.
But TF2 is an MMO.
No, TF2 is an RPG.
No, TF2 is an RPG.
It's both at the same time.

I honestly feel that it is just a matter of time before they make an MMO.
From what I've heard, they've wanted to do one for years but they just became too tied up in other projects. Just wait, once Ep3 and the TF2 and L4D updates come out, they will release an RPG, most likely an MMO.
Valve only makes first person shooters.
Ricochet.

Yes, a company that specializes in fast-paced, original, often inexpensive gameplay should delve into a genre characterized by repetitive grinding, expensive pay options, and a tendency to "borrow" from other games.
Think, people.
Everybody should stop making mmorpgs because they are just human hamster wheels...
Everybody should stop making mmorpgs because they are just human hamster wheels...
Isn't that true with pretty much every video game on the market?
It would be actually pretty cool for VALVe to make a MMORPG, but not set in any of the other game's universes. Problems are them having to dedicate large amounts of time and money to it (Servers and bugfixes and stuff) and they would have to start from scratch. Re-coding source, which is a small player amount, small map FPS engine into a MMORPG suitable engine would be even harder than starting from scratch.

-You see the game world with a first person view
-You shoot discs at people
Yeah totally not a FPS.
It's both at the same time.
Both at the same time?
It can be an FPS with some RPG characteristics, but it's definately not a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.
Valve is definitely a good company to make an MMO. They probably wouldn't try to make one, because all MMO developers fall into the same hole. The sole purpose of most MMOs is to make the devs money (as is with almost all games, but MMOs more so).
Valve would probably fail, when they realize it wouldn't be very profitable, and when having thousands of players playing on the same servers at the same time, things would get out of hand. MMOs are somewhat limited by todays technology, it's hard to make them look good and still be playable, it's hard to keep people playing, and they're an expensive to maintain. The settings of half-life and left 4 dead would be fine for an MMO, there's definitely potential there.
Anyways, with valve's work ethic and dedication to the community, they could definitely have a chance at making a great MMO. (although, they are very notorious for delaying release dates) Additionally, they aren't too money hungry, they are a very financially successful company as it is with the steam platform and their games. I say they should try it, and if it fails, listen to what the community says and try again. I can't see a valve mmo failing THAT badly.
MMORPGs should be banned. Just look at WoW. It is going to make the human race extinct because the people playing it will never sprout their mighty seed of the heavens into Lordess's Baking oven.
This is for the greater good
Also Valve shouldn't make a MMORPG. They're good at making FPS (to loosely describe the bulk of their successful franchises) games, so why branch off into another direction?
