Go ahead, download Paranoia and Abstract from Garrysmod.org, and play them. I'll wait.
Any of the underground labs in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I've played through all of them multiple times but they still freak me out.
Being completely alone in Gmod
I feel like some screamer/scary ass npc can appear anytime from hidden commands scripted in one of my addons :tinfoil:
Oh my god, this.
The Farmhouse from Condemned: Criminal Origins. It doesn't need enemies to scare you, just an incredibly creepy atmosphere that makes you feel like something horrible could happen at any moment. What really did it were the fucking window shutters that made noises that sounded like someone else's footsteps.
Really any part of that game was scary, especially the depth of sound. If you walked over a bucket then it rattled and you have no idea how many times I wasted my ammo just shooting at the air freaked out by a little bucket.
Water, darkness with shitty torches, shit busting out of the ceiling etc.
Clones/mutants/body horror gets me bad, zombies I'm fine with though. But everything in Parasite Eve 2? SERIOUS FUCKING SQUICK. Those god damn humming bird fetus things pretty much had me weeping in a corner.
And this bit, it's broad daylight and you usually have a M4 with a bayonette by this point but oh god get it away from me :gonk:

Remember that cutscene in the first Parasite Eve, where you see a rat get transformed?

Yeah.
There's an ambient noise in STALKER that terrifies me. It's like a strange deep howling sound that plays every so often outside.
It doesn't even sound like the attack or idle sounds of any mutants you encounter during the game but it still creeps the shit out of me.
Oh that deep moaning like the earth itsself is in pain and only wants to remove the ulcer that you yourself are in? Because I hate that sound too, just wondering what kind of fucking atrocity could make it.
I always updated my suit for armor, so I never was able to get the night vision. It was horrible to not see anything but hear the heavy breathing right behind you and then the howling coming from right infront of you.

That's why I always would hang around a group of other stalkers at night if I didn't have night vision.

Yeah.
God damn it now I need to play this.
being fucking chased and being so close to safety gets me all worked up for some reason
like when in far cry 2, i was near the weapons shop and a fucking car comes out of nowhere and i can hear it so i run for the door and i'm jumping in my chair and holy crap it's so intense god damnit

The huge fish in Jak & Daxter: the Precursor's Legacy, you hear a heart beating faster and faster when it's getting closer

Paranormal activity the game :buddy:
Also when you're on like a big killstreak in MW2 and you're camping to keep it up and you hear someone without Ninja is walking on the floor above you and you don't know if you should get him or wait for him.
It's not really scary but it's fucking tense.
anything particularly odd in a game can be scary

Freaking.
Bloodsuckers.
I was playing COP last night and I was waiting for an emission to start at ~18h...bloodsucker came out of nowhere and started attacking me.(Was right outside of Skadovsk too.) I didn't have any ammo for my AK, so I started shooting at it with my pistol. Pretty soon I realized that wasn't gonna work, so I took out my knife and FFFFF it got close enough to suck some of my blood. I went back to shooting with my pistol until it got close again and I KILLED IT WITH A FREAKING KNIFE. A FREAKING KNIFE.
FREAKING.
KNIFE.
YOU TRY DOING THAT WITHOUT ALMOST NEEDING TO CHANGE YOUR PANTS.
Yeah big empty maps in Gmod can get scary, especially city maps. I decorated one and decided to add NPC's it made things worse cause they just stood still and kept staring at me with blank faces, they wanted to kill me...I am sure of it.
The sewers level in Serious Sam: The First Encounter always really freaked me out. That's probably because you spend 70% of the level diving and searching for paths and buttons underwater, and I'm terrified of deep water IRL. Not to mention the electric fish.

What the hell is this?! I don't remember this!
Running out of power for any light-emitting device.
HOLY SHIT.
Penumbra.
Oh and heartbeats. If any game have any kind of heartbeats i'll get extremely freaked out and probably quit playing right there :ohdear:
The locker bit from Condemned: Criminal Origins:

The dogs in Penumbra (the guy who made this video had the gamma way too high):

Also, that bit in Penumbra, after killing the worm, where you walk past a door and round the corner only to hear the door crash onto the ground and quick footsteps, as you begin to shit yourself and sprint for your life.
I dislike going into underground areas unless i have a friend with me in gmod. Especially if it is dark. And I get freaked out by things that smack you from ceiling, like those random tentacle uglies in the library in metro 2033. And giant spiders, jesus christ that one level in unreal 2 where they blow up out of eggs also scared the fuck out of me.

Pfft, Penumbra's dogs have nothing on Cryostasis' dogs.

Look at that shit.

I only watched 30 seconds of this video and I suddenly feel like reinstalling Cryostasis.
Just played Alan Wake, was pretty scary, worst when you can hear a chainsaw buzzing somewhere in the darkness but can't see where the guy is with it.
