Games that move objects or creatures when you're not looking: HL2 (0:53): Condemned: And used to great effect in Sherlock Holmes:
When you're running and running and you can hear the chaser's footsteps and they sound so close and then they get close enough to swing at you.
When you don't know how many footsteps you're hearing, and whose they are.
Afraid of monsters, the half-life mod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrBhDTv_vSc 5:38 is when shit gets real
Abe's Odyssey and Exodus were scary when I was getting chased by those Paramites and the Scarabs(?). Haha I still remember them, I think...
Yeah, exodus especially. Everytime the paramites corner me i shit my pants.
The Grizzly Bear in Condemned 2 was pretty scary, you can't kill it and it chases you around a dark abandoned log cabin in the middle of the dark woods.
Afraid of monsters, the half-life mod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrBhDTv_vSc 5:38 is when shit gets real
Afraid of Monsters is the reason I'm afraid to experiment with drugs. [editline]11:46AM[/editline] In a game where the enemy can throw grenades, especially the ones that explode on impact. (Half-Life 1.) You hear the sound of a grenade being thrown, you look up into the sky and you see it headed directly for you. Time seems to slow down and you sit there in horror as you realize that you can't move away from your death.
Enemies in Age of Empires II. Building farm, building farm, where did my mill go.. HOLY SHIT TREBUCHETS... HOLY SHITFUCK 50 LONGBOWMEN!
Opaque water textures. I'm not joking. Play the ichthyosaur levels on HL1 at midnight and you'll understand.
I can't even do the Synergy/HL2:DM build puzzle maps anymore because of this. If there is water and I can't see more than 50 feet in front of me, I lose my shit. I can't take it and worry that there's going to be a fucking ichthyosaur. Always. So fucking nerve-wracking..
I hate water in games, to dive in it and expect some kind of enemy behind you. Being chased in water is fucking horrible. I remember in Star Wars: Dark Forces, there was a octupus alien monster in an old water facility. Fucking creepy.
[editline]02:58AM[/editline] What the christ I didn't even watch more than 7 seconds of the video I posted until I had it posted, then I notice I'm talking in steam to the guy. :v:
I watched around 10 seconds before realizing "the guy" playing is me. Yeah penumbra is scary as hell, one of the things that freaks me out in games is not having a way to defend yourself. So you are powerless to do anything but run or improvise as in blocking the door with whatever is next to you. And in Penumbra if they spot you running in, they might just kick the door down and give you a heart attack when you thought you were finally safe. :geno:
The aliens in the first AvP, with their completely silent footsteps. Bah.
The voice in some area in STALKER(Russian version, so word might be diff in english vesrion). Basicly "come to me stalker" and similar. Then darkness (Seriously, everytime i play any game the moment i step into darkness i quicksave and leave game for a while until i have enough balls to continue) And water (Same deal)
There was some game that my brother showed me or something way back when that I believe was on the Unreal Engine. Now, normally when I noclip in an Unreal Engine game or an Idtech 5 game, flying through the darkness is pretty creepy on its own and I almost feel as though I'm flying through an unknown plane where fuck all could happen. I probably would have gotten over this if I weren't noclipping through this particular game that I'm mentioning (but forget the name of) where, when I was about to approach the skybox, a sudden screamer took place terrifying the crap out of me. It was some zombie face or something, a pretty cheap scare, but what I was doing when it got me was half of the scare. I never wanted to play the game again, but I wonder what it was. It's entirely possible that it was some sort of modification that one of my friends or my brother were showing me, but it is a mystery. Also, something that probably more people could relate to is the eel from Super Mario 64. I'll just be swimming, think to myself, "Where's that eel gone?" right before I see him appearing through the fog, always messing with my depth perception because he's much bigger than I always think. He just blankly stares as he drifts along... unfeeling, cold eyes. And he'll fuck your shit up if you get in the way.
Scared the shit out of me just scrolling past it.
Same, I was like "HOYL SHIT!"
what did you expect, its a doom 2 mod lul
thats only the final boss, you can also get other things and with Doom 2's lighting without OGL, its fucking scary
These are some ambient sounds i ripped from the Source '07 gcf's, that i consider creepy. The last few, i dont remember hearing, but because of their location in the GCF, they were in Ravenholm. Also, the zombies in every half life game scared the piss outta me.
The fucking octopus in Splashdown You will never want to leave the track again.
Why is everyone so freaked out by regenerators in RE4? They were soo easy to kill. Basically any enemy in that game had something that gave their presence away. Now RE2... Oh god... Who remembers the plank blocked hallways that wanted to grab your tits? Or the Licker passing by the window? Or the crows that attacked through the windows? Not only that, but the climax and the scary music... Fuck that was a well done game! Even the gameplay helped a bit with the kinda "retarded" way to shoot at stuff.* *It wasn't retarded. It was just rather difficult to play with it at times.
And used to great effect in Sherlock Holmes:
That actually reminds me a lot of the Friendly Neighborhood Companion Cube addon for Garry's Mod.
Creepers.
The fucking octopus in Splashdown You will never want to leave the track again.
What is wrong with those kids playing it?
I have had it with these motherfucking stalkers on this motherfucking train! Playing it at night, the big stalker's face that appears infront of you can be a bit daunting - and the one that's being a bit too friendly with Alex. Trying to be sneaky and shitting myself when a guard appears out of nowhere in Oblivion. It's not particularly scary but.. sure makes you jump. Anti-runners from Mirror's Edge.
Those Stalkers are definitely NOT happy campers...
Why is dass scared of the plank blocked hallways that wanted to grab your tits?
Crawling things. I don't know why though, they anger me but make me scared at the same time. Or just small enemies in general.
Being chased by something that can end the game for you.
This room. It's not an enemy, nor does it have any plot or level significance. It's just kind of there.
Motherfuck that scared me. I had no clue the huge head was there until I found the left eye fuck.
