You edit the arrows in item>arrows.png

It either overwrites your arrows or mob arrows, though. I think the blue one is mob arrows.

Why is it that a lot of texture packs often have black or white borders in transparent areas of certain items like icons for coal or eggs or cacti?

I just installed the balea texture pack and the custom shader/bumpmapping/DOF mod. Installing took 30 minutes of dicking around with files, but holy hell was it worth it.

Assets ripped from Runescape, black and white because I did it wrong. I wasted hours ripping them so if anyone wants them you can have them. Nobody's going to recognise a recoloured ground texture from Runescape ^:v:^

I tried to install the HD texture fix so I can use Gerudoku. But it gives me a black screen. And yes, minecraft wasnt running while I was patching.

The Wind Waker one is nice, but a lot of the textures are poorly upscaled from screenshots of the game (I dunno about screenshots but they are definitely upscaled.)
and scribblecraft makes me want to rip my eyes out.

IF YOU GET A BLACKSCREEN IT'S USUALLY BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T DELETE YOUR OPTIONS.TXT!!
