If anyone remembers my Minecraft: The Dark Descent story I posted a while back, I have the second entry available for viewing on Pastebin. This entry details Steve's first cave exploration, how he fought a Spider, and how he acquired some rather valuable equipment. http://pastebin.com/etebdCjh If you want to read the first entry, detailing Steve's first night on the island, click the link below. http://pastebin.com/ua4a43tg Note how I saved a load of space by putting the document on Pastebin, saving a fuckton of space, unlike what I usually do by stretching the page. I should do this more often, even if it lowers the chance of it being seen. But hey, some people don't like having walls of text forced upon them, a fact I have grudgingly acknowledged.
Found this while researching viruses for my Net+ class.
1971 The Creeper virus, an experimental self-replicating program, is written by Bob Thomas at BBN Technologies. Creeper infected DEC PDP-10 computers running the TENEX operating system. Creeper gained access via the ARPANET and copied itself to the remote system where the message, "I'm the creeper, catch me if you can!" was displayed. The Reaper program was later created to delete Creeper.
I expected it to blow up the computer as well.
I've read both stories with Daniel's (Amnesia: The Dark Descent) voice in my head.
I guess you're meant to, since the title of the story does have The Dark Descent in it, which is partly where I drew the inspiration from. The format of the story is also meant to be diary-based, similar to the scattered pages of Daniel's diary in Amnesia. Just imagine finding those pages in a Minecraft game, though. How'd you find them, anyway?

The stories, what did you think of them? Was the protagonist's acquisition of ancient Pigman magitech as justification of Minecraftian gameplay elements acceptable, or was it a bit of a deus ex machina?
Also, I guess you drew some inspiration from other Frictional titles, right? The prologue is almost the same as Penumbra: Overture/Black Plague's. I really like your view on the gameplay elements, though the Slate is a bit too magic for me. Considering that fact the Slate contained just enough blocks to block the hallway AND there was a creeper "locked-on" Steve, it can be considered a deus ex machina.
I was building an awesome house inside a mountain and I heard a zombie groaning as I was beating out the wall of a new room and he sounded really fucking close, I was thinking “Man there must be a dungeon right above me or something” and I turn around and do a backflip. Fucking zombie is in my face man. :tinfoil: Built up enough adrenalin from that to beat his ass without taking damage. Worst scare I've ever experience while playing Minecraft.
Slimes :3

I dunno whether I was thinking of that when I wrote the first entry, or whether my subconcious was sneaking it in. Although to be fair, the protagonist of Minecraft TDD isn't following in his father's footsteps like Phillip in Penumbra. No, I think he's more like Daniel, in the sense that he's an archaeologist. Also, I guess there is a bit of deus ex machina in there. And yes, the slate was probably too "magical". I initially thought about the Slate being more of a backpack in the style of the bag of holding a la D&D, but decided against it for some reason. Just a simple question here, but what direction do you think I should take next with this? Should I detail his crafting and mining adventures (discovering iron for the first time, building a proper house, etc), or should I investigate his deteriorating sanity (the pig he met earlier having a monocle and a top hat and speaking to him, Steve seeing a mysterious figure in the fog, etc), or something different?
Wasn't there any custom launcher for Minecraft that lets you fly around?
I wish smoothstone was easier to make. It takes forever to smelt.
My solution to that problem: Make a shit-ton of furnaces, smelt 32/16/8 pieces in each (or whole stacks in each if you're so inclined).

Now guys, if you think theres alot of server threads in games in progress here, look at the mc forums beta servers section. Now, 50 threads per page, each thread is a server. 249 pages of servers, 249 * 50 = 12450 servers.
