I'm talking about the fucking engine. Everything is very floaty, from the guns to actual character movement, etc, as opposed to the weighty feel you get from ARMA2's engine. You instantly crouch, drop prone, etc, like you're playing an arcade shooter. I expect some elements of realism, that's what.
calm down bro. you should've checked your expectations because this was going to be very different from dayz from the start. the weight and impact of the arma 2 engine works for what it has going for it, this is obviously a less serious, faster paced and more arcade-influenced version of the same concept, much like a cover of a song within a different genre. if you came in here expecting anything other than this then i'm sorry you wasted your money
and i honestly believe the way this game handles works for what it is. things could be fleshed out and polished yes, but the feel and handling of the game correlates with the mechanics and initial intention overall
I'm not saying it's not fun, it just feels like shit playing on an engine nearly completely unaltered from an awful arcade style free to play third person shooter compared to the, how do you say... well made engine featured in arma 2, or, any quality engine. This could be running on Unreal 3, Cryengine 3... Anything but this.

Well the developer has stated he is going to try to go for realism and that this isn't an arcade style game, etc. If it was truly supposed to be "arcade-influenced" why would they keep in the food systems and such? It doesn't seem arcade based, but just flat out lazy.

But that's just it, this wasn't ever supposed to be as "realistic" as ARMA. (Let's face it, what really can be when it comes to military and shit?)
It was known pretty early on that it was going to be more arcade-y compared to ARMA.
I for one don't have a problem with this.
With DayZ standalone being "realistic", I can have both, one being more relaxed and the other being more hardcore.
It's not even good arcadey though, it's just shitty. Feels like I'm still playing on a shoddily put together Free to Play engine, for certain, as that's literally what it is. I still can see the value in it but honestly I wish they would've actually invested the time and money in using or making an engine that could do the game justice.

I'm not gonna lie, I felt the same you do now but I suppose I've gotten used to it.
I came from DayZ expecting something similar and was a little disappointed at first, however I've gotten a feel for it now and am enjoying it quite a lot.
I suppose in the end, for me the whole floaty-ness and arcade-y feel doesn't really bother me, it's got the survival and the guns feel good enough for them to work at least (except for the sounds, oh God it hurts).
that's probably gonna be how it is for me but it's still upsetting and disappointing for the time being (or whatever). playing it with other people will change things I'm sure
Did some gear running. I have a few shotguns, handguns, lots of bandages, hats, everything.
I can map the route if you guys want. It's fairly short.
wipe has been confirmed.
In other news, got my nightvision.
Think of this game as a FPS version of Dead Frontier and it immediately becomes a lot more fun. They both share that same kinda feel in a way.
does anyone else hear female zombies for male zombies?
also i feel pretty good, came across some guy with nothing named shawn fitz and gave him a medium pack and some food and water
servers going down again?
Trainwreck waiting to happen if they don't put in anti-cheat soon.
For those who don't know, There isn't a even basic anti-cheat besides Screenshotting your screen.
I know its not finished, but how much could they really fix. the game at its core feels like absolute balls, I'm falling through objects on the map, and the engine itself is just clearly not made for this type of game. Are they gonna switch out all the animations before it is released, because they ALL look awful. You can add all the cars and cool features you want but the core gameplay is still shit.

after playing DayZ and using the masterful Arma2 engine, even with the god awful AI... This game feels, looks like, and plays like absolute shit.
And you were the one talking about how good DayZ was on the Arma2 engine? It doesn't look it's best either, but people come back because of the gameplay.

Some PvP Video I posted.. How to properly creep in boxes and wait.
I'm in the mumble if anyone wants to play with me during my final hours of the guest pass.
When is the gear wipe?
When is the gear wipe?
They're not 100% sure yet.
I sure love people that waste rare ammo on me when I just spawned and have nothing on me. :suicide:
Walking around the smaller towns of the map with my Mossberg and best armour on like usual, trying to find a newbie to help out and drop some food/water/survival stuff like usual. So I walk into a house and see two guys saying some weird shit in Proximity chat...so I walk into a house and see two dudes - completely unarmed with nothing but gas masks - prone on a matress and moving back and forward rapidly while saying stuff like "Ohhh yeaah right there" (which I initally thought was refering to the location of some loot or something when I was walking up to the house).
I just walked in, looked at them for a second and they looked at me, shot the weird motherfuckers in their faces and ran the fuck out of there. I don't know WHAT just happened and I don't want to find out.

have you even slept yet lol
did you guys notice that one of the male zombie deaths sounds like arnold schwarzenegger?
it just gets me every time.
have you even slept yet lol
I stayed up till 4am playing, and then I set my alarm and woke up at 8am to play more.
I'm fine with little sleep. It was worth it anyway. I wanted to squeeze out what was left of my pass.

What?
Anyway, being beaten to death while you're hammering a zombie who was chasing another survivor by another zombie sucks.
