I've been trying for two days to get one with no luck.

Got to Cleanview and found a mossberg, but unfortunately attracted three zombies. I had to shoot them all and two people heard the gunfire, said they were friendly.
So I told them I ran out of bullets and they mentioned they were on the tank at the crossroads, saw them from a distance. I had to make my way to them offering food, supplies, etc. Unfortunately I attracted four zombies and came running to them, asking if they could melee them for me. One wandered off to escape but left me and the guy on the tank. He started running around, eventually he found a melee weapon to use.
He was stuck on the sandbag, hitting them. I decided i'll let him kill the four zombies first. Then when he turned around to get the loot, I shot him in the back with a mossberg and took the loot :v:
He was like "WTF" and "i was unarmed".
Damn, I felt so guilty doing it. I befriended them and had a nice chat too, yet they bought into my lies and one took a mossberg to the back :v:

I will? I'm never really a bandit, just got annoyed and decided to try it out. Personally, I'm just going to have one bandit character. I prefer working as a team and avoiding bandits/zombies.
How many kills do you need to gain bandit status and whats the highest bandit status, the highest I saw was Megabandit.
What kinda gruesome melee weapons do you guys have? I have a friggin Hatchet, I'm getting that DayZ murder intent growing in me.

When meleeing the undead vaillains, aim for the body to make sure they're stunned, then work your way up to the head. Do not take on more than one at once.

Well I followed your advice and bought the game last night, I spent the first hour amassing a 7 person group, found an m16,45 round stanag and a combat helmet.
Should I get this game?
I loved the concept of DayZ, but thought it was brought down by the bugs, difficulty of JOINING A FUCKING SERVER, lack of anti-cheat and support and the fact that it took over my favourite game, would this game satisfy my zombie-killing needs?
