Here's just my two cents on getting a refund for this game.
It's like this, you go into a restaurant, order a steak dinner medium rare. You then get that steak and eat 3/4 of it before calling to your waiter and saying, "Hey, I ordered this medium rare, not rare; do you see how pink it is?" Obviously, he's probably going to look at you with utter confusion wondering why you felt the need to eat most of it before telling him. Regardless, he'll most likely take it back to the kitchen and you'll either get a refund or another steak.
My point is, if you know that you've played the game, even though it is in Alpha, and have a good amount of time under your belt you shouldn't be demanding refunds. It's kind of a shitty thing to do, especially since you know this game is in early development and that by giving the developers $25+ it's showing you have faith and interest in the game.
No, it's like you go into a restaurant and order a black angus certified eye fillet steak, and they give you crappy scotch fillet and say "here this is a little bit like what you want. Also, you are banned from our restaurant forever".

That is a terrible analogy. They haven't promised anything that you don't already have; you paid for a Pre-Order but they were nice enough to have an open Alpha and Beta before the full game comes out. Right now it's more like going into a restaurant and receiving a complimentary appetizer that you don't necessarily enjoy; does that mean you just up and leave before you taste your meal? No, and in this case none of us have experienced the full game, so we can't say whether or not it's crappy.

Actually, they did promise something I don't have, stronghold hosting (which I paid for with my preorder). And since they banned me, they won't ever deliver it. Also, you don't have to pay for a complimentary appetizer. If the alpha was free, I wouldn't be getting a refund would I? I'm pretty sure what you are playing right now is about as far as the game will go, with the exception of clans, a completed map and paid server hosting. Also, I think the chef crapped in my appetizer.

But you didn't pay for the alpha. You payed for the game in all it's phases and versions. We have no idea what features this game is and isn't capable of, none of us here are devs on the game. Stronghold hosting isn't here yet, that's true. Keyword is: yet. I don't think they promised an exact date of when it'll be here, they just promised it'll be here as a feature.
What are the main differences between all the versions you can buy?
I know there's a comparison on the website, but it doesn't really tell me all I want to know.
If I buy something other than the highest version, does that mean I won't be able to take part in something later on?

Nope, you buy the lowest version, and you get all the features and future updates.
The other two give you in-game currency, 3 passes, and stronghold server time. It's exactly as it is on the buying page. Nothing else is different.
You can earn GC in-game by hunting stem-cell zombies (It's a convenience, not a pay-to-win mechanic), and the servers are for stronger computers and internet that can run a server as well as play games at the same time. Guest passes are nice for friends that don't have the game, but they only last for 2 days once activated, and you only get 3 of them.

I'm hungry now.
But yeah the game is in early development people are just getting their fix and asking for refunds. Pretty childish if you ask me.
Even if it doesn't shape up to my liking or separates its self from DayZ I probably won't bother with the refund since I find it morally wrong. let alone it isn't like I paid that much for it. The game was pretty cheap to start with and we got it on deal during Alpha.

What part of "they banned me for exploiting, won't tell me what exploit (in an alpha, which, if I understand correctly, is to find exploits/bugs and fix them) and will never deliver anything that I paid for" don't you understand.

I took half a bite out of my steak before I returned it. Don't assume that everyone asking for a refund has played 10+ hours.

Sorry, the conversation was heading away from that point. I completely that the ban was uncalled for. Have you tried talking directly to warren from the Live Chat?

Some of you people are bad at analogies and understanding them. Either way, if we continue this discussion, may as well call the thread WarZ: Refunded Granola Bar Edition.

Nah, I got my refund, not really missing the game, probably won't buy it again unless they deliver on promises in the future.
My only issue so far is with hacking and the devs response that their measures ban 99% of them. I personally think their system currently is just not working at all and that's not my issue. As an alpha I totally agree they weren't really expecting to have to deal with that so early but at least be more honest about the process.
Do they include new spawns near new unlocked areas? Having a fully available map won't mean nothing if players still insist on sticking to the eastern areas.

I work in a restaurant and it's actually policy with us that if the customer is extremely dissatisfied with the food, then the meal is on the house. In other restaurants I've worked it's the same too.
Gamers are customers aswell, if he's dissatisfied with what he expected I think he's within his rights to ASK for a refund, but it's a really dickish thing to do.
I've got the game and I've done giveaways of the game and it turned out to be really shitty for me personally. I didn't enjoy it, but I wouldn't ask for my money back just based on that.
And people really believing that the game is going to change/add many more things are quite delusional. In all honesty, the release of the game will be pretty much exactly as it is now, with a few added bonuses. The arguement of "ITS AN ALPHA" should be invalid.
Once they add cars, clans, strongholds, full map and whatever other promises. Then what? The community knows of no long-term plans for the game, chances are the developers could up and run the second they've given their promises.

Surivor, Pioneer ( and Legend ) packages are retiring this weekend
This weekend we're going to retire all early purchase options - i.e. you won't be able to purchase Survivor, Pioneer or Legend packages.
There'll be new purchase options for new users, but they will not provide early players recognition status (i.e. forum badges, character unlocks, etc.).
The reason we're doing this is simple - we want to make sure that people who supported us in the beginning will always standout from the crowd. We're modifying our Leaderboards UI to include your account badge - so naturally only people who bought the Survivor, Pioneer or Legend package will have that icon displayed there. New accounts will not have special badges.
We're going to give something special to our existing players as well. On wipe we'll give you $5 to $10 (depending on your package type) worth of GC (as well as resetting the GC that came with your pioneer or legend package), and we'll unlock all characters that are available in the game at launch.
We're discussing right now other ways to reward our early players. So - more good stuff will be coming your way at wipe/release.
Stay tuned.
Weee, snow areas! Can't wait until tomorrow.
I'd hope zombies can slip on ice.
I hope we can slip on ice too. Or at least have reduced friction.

I'd say it's partial damage control. I can't wait to see this update tomorrow though, I will certainly give it a shot.
So you put a lot of time into the game and you can't bring yourself to justify the money? Unless I'm misreading something, you're making no sense. If you've played the game a lot and now you're just bored because it's in alpha and hasn't been updated in a while then you have no right to ask for a refund, unless you were banned for no reason or you can't play the game due to a specific bug, etc.
I think they are too nice when it comes to giving refunds, nobody gets a refund from Steam and most physical objects (at least where I live) only get a refund if they were broken when you bought them or if you return them within 10 days as long as they look as if they were new.
actually he does, since the game is technically not out yet
I haven't played in a while. I played at most for an hour or two on "beta" release and then basically have avoided the game all together. Is the meta still exactly the same?
Im happy that I havent bought this game, I tested it with an guest pass and said no afterwards. People buy games way to quickly, gamers faith is high :v: (see kickstarter)
I haven't played in a while. I played at most for an hour or two on "beta" release and then basically have avoided the game all together. Is the meta still exactly the same?
The "meta" game? Do you mean server hopping?
It's actually amazing the difference that playing on free servers with no server hopping is (everyone is hacking, so then the meta game becomes "outhack your opponent", and it's just a scavenger hunt to find guns before going to clearview to out ESP others).
However, on the emulated servers, weapon drops are pretty abundant. I can find an M16 within 5 minutes. It's because there are only about 8 servers, and most of them are always full, so hopping is less appealing. If they can solve the server hopping issue in the real game, then I think that would improve it an awful lot.
In an hour on an emulated server, I found 2 M16's an M4 semi, 2 sig sauers, Jerichos, mossbergs, and a crap load of other loot. I also got a heap of loot of some hackers who were heading to a safe zone. And then the GM started teleporting all over the place scaring the crap out of me for fun by porting in front of me and shining a light in my face and then vanishing.
i wonder if revealing the rest of the map is going to make this game any more interesting. i've found it just dulls down to the same routine of loot pickups and then safe zones

It's what you make it really. If your idea of fun is running for hours to find a juice box and a pistol, and then running back to stash it, never to use it, be my guest. Get a gun, get a hammer, and run into a city and ruin someone with it, and then take their weapons. Zombies are just environmental hazards.
I'm pretty sure that the multiplayer survival sim is going to die out as a genre soon for two reasons
i) Open World, free PvP will always result in PvP (that's the nature of people), so it just becomes deathmatch on a large delayed scale. Instead of dying every minute like in CoD, you die every 30 minutes.
ii) If you put any limitations on PvP, you immediately remove the greatest threat to your survival. Other players.
Essentially, it is a catch 22. People want PvE only servers, but for what purpose? You can kill 3 or 4 zombies alone with a hammer, and you can find them within 5 minutes. Okay, so you can clean up a city and barricade. What then? Role play with 12 year olds running around say "you can't have gun I am police officer hand over or ban", or whatever they do in that weird DarkRP thing. If there is no PvP, it's just a treasure hunt game. But PvP is bloody annoying when you don't have a weapon, or someone is hacking and getting and advantage over you.

I guess you could farm for Skill Points, but at the moment those haven't been implimented.
Its up to the developers and them implementing interesting in-game mechanics. There will always be room to update and expand upon the game already.
My games still not working since I bought it...
[editline]27th November 2012[/editline]
Might even get a refund myself, not worked since I bought it and that was maybe a month or so ago, before alpha was out I got the legend package.
