Signed up for the beta just as I heard about it. Looks really good.
I decided to play War Inc. to see what the Eclipse engine is like, since this game will be using the engine as well. Thankfully it's not as bad as I remember it to be, but I still hope these devs utilize it in a far better way.
I thought the same with Dayz, I was strictly against servers having 3rd person enabled. But after I tried it a few times it was actually really good and it does not decrease your immersion.
I'm not saying it for immersion reasons (even though I think it decreases immersion but I don't mind if other players do that) but for the reasons in that it makes a big difference when people look over walls and around corners to get the jump on other players and such.
Hoping that for their closed beta they let lots of people in.
Sounds like a good idea.

Let's hope its something along the lines of Tribes open beta availability, so anyone can give it a go.
It's very nice that zombies can't actually open doors or climb ladders so you can run in a house and barricade it or climbing a ladder if you're running out of ammo.
Also this whole "make your own mission" thing will be such a nice feature when you suddenly see yourself on the notepad with a bounty of 5,000$ :v:

it'd be really cool if you could fortify a house and use it as a temporary camp
according to PCgamer, DayZ created caps, backpacks, jeans, shirts, guns, zombies, pvp, and open worlds

It's funny because this was already in development way before DayZ was.
I mean obviously they're a bunch of no-good time travelling idea stealing street thugs

Holy shit, how dumb can people be?
It's like suddenly Rocket is the creator of the whole fucking zombie genre...
Soon everyone will start saying that games like Project Zomboid, Dead Linger, Survivor Zero and all the zombie survival games that were announced way before anyone even knew about DayZ are suddenly copying it..

Ignorance and human intuition can do crazy things.

Oh god if someone could put a huge bounty on me I would definitely become a huge outlaw/bandit (no I'm not going to say it don't worry :v:)
Also don't mind the PC Gamer thing, it's just that DayZ is probably PC Gamers favourite game/mod ever so that's why. Also I hope they have first person awareness (being able to see your feet) ultimate immersion man

I remember the first time I saw my characters in-game legs.
Shit was so amazing for my little mind at the time.
Yeah, last week was awesome.

That syringe, so realistic it's making the syringe in the Thing look like a small pin needle in comparison.
that male character model seems vaguely familiar
Baked beans and omnipotent zombies.
Really looking forward to this
Why every game with zombies and surviving people are instantly comparing to DayZ?
Seriously, why?
I hope that combat is simple and contains no RPG elements. It would make me sad to see a weapon, and on its icon it has something like "200-700 damage per second" on it.
On second thought, it just might seeing as how a pistol is just as effective at killing/downing someone with no armor on as an assault rifle or shotgun (talking about one shot to the chest).

I hope it would be STALKER-like RPG elements.
I would love to have weapons say nothing about themselves.. you should try every gun and see how it fits you.
I'll actually wait to see if this flops or not.
Gotten excited over too many ambitious MMOs to care any more.
I don't know what to think about this game until I've played it.
They are releasing a video soon
That's were they made a pretty poor decision imo. First person only would be much more immersive. Wouldn't be able to see besides your character, couldn't peaking around corners, etc etc
Because when I think of immersion I think of putting on horse-blinders and not knowing where my feet are when I'm prone.
First-person only makes you feel more like a walking television set with no peripheral vision. Your awareness is greatly reduced, causing you to have to swoop your head around over and over again to get a bearing on your surroundings. Third-person helps to simulate actual human awareness, albeit at the small cost of having a raised camera that can be "exploited" by seeing around objects. All the same, having the ability to switch between the two is much better than either or, especially in a survival-based game.

This right here, is how i feel about it, whenever i'm travelling large distances i pop on third person because i have a better visual of my surroundings, if i go into a area with possible combat, i use first person because its usually harder to aim in third person compared to first person, for EX: ArmaII third person cross hair aims slightly lower than first person.

Help simulate actual human awareness? I can see why you say that but third person zooms you out of your body and puts you over your character. How is that actual human awareness? You have way better vision of everything around you, and you're able to look around you with just the movement of your eyes, without moving your character. I don't know about you but that to me doesn't "simulate actual human awareness". That's way more awareness than humans have.
In first person, you may not have the greatest peripheral vision yeah that's true, but you're constantly forced to look around you and move your character to see your surroundings. It just adds to the exciting and panic-ey gameplay. I didn't know humans merely just moved their eyes to get a feel for their whole surroundings..
The vision you get in third person is so godly that you're able to just hide behind something and see the other side without being seen yourself. I mean, that fact alone ruins so much of the immersion, how can you be for something like that in a game like this?

Humans have like almost 160 degrees of vision. First person view in a game will have 90 degrees at most. Third person gives you the right amount of peripheral vision, first person doesn't.

Doesn't change the fact that it is used for cheating, by hiding your model behind some cover and watching SAFELY from it, without letting other people know that you are there.
This is wrong.
Bad...terrible...terribly awful people are capable of ambushing by doing this.
First person is the only way to play any game that has a PvP aspect with ambushing and isn't some fast paced crap.
Sorry, but I really hope, they put only first person view on hardcore mode.
Oh, btw... I'm also tired of surfing through endless "carebear" edition servers in dayz already (3rd person camera enabled).
Want to simulate your awareness? Buy 2 additional displays and use huge ass panaromical resolution.
That's not a problem!

Metal Gear Online and APB do the same thing, but they both turned out fun (mostly). I guess you say this because on Hardcore you actually have something to lose besides a number on your score (except with APB you lose a rank), but like I said before, a pistol is all you'd need (ideally) to put someone down be it a zombie or player looking to steal your shit.
Also since the game is more based on quests, it shouldn't be hard to get back to your former glory should you bite the dust in Hardcore.

So you're saying you want to force people to spend several hundred dollars extra just to have decent peripheral vision instead of a third person camera that might be used to exploit the limited PvP? I agree it can be exploited and that could be a serious problem in PvP, but I shouldn't have to jerk my head around constantly to watch my sides when traveling long distances. Humans can shift their head very slightly and get an impressive range of view, first person in video games don't have any sort of hope of mimicing that without forcing the consumer to spend stupid amounts of money on hardware.
Third person also provides its benefits and challenges to PvP. You can't be certain what type of camera that person you're about to ambush is using, so instead of hiding behind a short wall you'd actually have to flank them intelligently. Far enough away to be outside of the range of his camera, close enough to still have a good range. You'd have to select your cover intelligently instead of just hiding behind a random rock.
