From what I can see from footage, this game is basically Dead Island in content and art/visuals. Am I anywhere near right? I don't really know how a game is supposed to be suspenseful when it looks so cartoony. I don't know about you guys, but if this game is truly zombie survival, the part where I'm constantly worrying about death and being spotted by something isn't something that stands up when immersion is broken by something like "Hold E to pick up!" or stuff I'm seeing

[editline]2nd September 2012[/editline] Oh and it will probably be disabled for hardcore mode, I don't even want an "hold e to pick up items" or glowing light around the item. I like how all of that is changable when community gives back feedback: 4) Highlighting of loot items. Okay first of all it's turned on only when you're close to items. Second - we really like this feature. And third - if players will complain alot during CBT, we'll turn them off for hardcore mode.

I really like that they aim at getting the animations to an battlefield 3 level, atleast for the first person weapons.

Small Update by Sergey:
Here's just to give you some idea of map size, rendering distances, etc. This screenshot shows pretty much 90% of the map. distance from the camera to far mountains in the center of the screen is around 11-13km ( 6.6 to 7.8 US miles ). All area except for snow peak mountains on the edge of the map are playable. Ie you're getting around 160-170km of playable terrain comparing to 225 sql km of Chernorus ( keep in mind that large chunk of chernorus map is a sea ). This is our first map codename "Colorado". This map size is pretty comfortable for up to 130+ players. At 200+ players, you'll be able to meet other players every 15-20 minutes of playing game.
Can't wait!
I still feel that map repetition is going to be an issue unless the spawns are truly random. Any game of this genre is going to have the issue though, you'll learn the best spawn points eventually. I think I just wont look at a map this time around, so I'm actually surprised that there's a supermarket in the town instead of already having a plan to enter it 20 minutes out.
Interesting forum post from Sergey also:
Forum Guy: Question for you sergey, how many people would you say would be ideal for an optimal play experience on this Colorado map? I'm just curious in your opinion. Personally I'd like 20-30 tops. Not asking the maximum you could fit, just how many you would like if you setup your own server. Thanks for your time. Sergey: 70-100. This is if you don't want any overcrowding. At this number you'll get only slightly higher chance to meet other players than in DayZ.
Expect colorado to be beautiful and filled with stuff and buildings but not as big as you guys probably did expect. Also the trees make everything look smaller in the picture, compare that big house to the 100 metres tree. Which is great ofcourse, they even want to make it possible to travel from one map to the other with your char. [editline]3rd September 2012[/editline] Now that I think of it, in DayZ I usually play with 30-50 people and only ever meet someone when I run along the coast. This thing here is slightly more compact and also with 70-100 players perfect, there's the occasional encounter and when the good and bad system is done good enough it will be amazing.

Even distribution will allow more people while seeming more scarce.
More I read about this the more I like the sound of it. The coming months are going to be great for us zombie nerds :v:
Got my world war z book here to keep me company until this comes out. So excited !!!
Is there a confirmed release date yet? Not talking about betas...
Is there a confirmed release date yet? Three cities shown here - in a lower right part of the image there is a city you've seen in alpha gameplay trailer. Center top of the screen - one of the largest cities on this map - mostly highrises.
i really wish this game would have some PR i know how awesome it is to have titov speaking to us in person, put something about broken english just sorta turns me off
Hey The War Z! Give us some Oculus rift!
That city looks pretty small, hopefully it's just the angle
Looks like something more akin to a small town, tbh. Dunno, I kinda like it.
That city looks pretty small, hopefully it's just the angle
Did you see the biggest city on the map yet? that thing there far far away, skyscrappers everywhere that means there are small buildings too.
I hope the gunplay is somewhat realistic and feels good so it doesn't turn into L4D3
I hope the gunplay is somewhat realistic and feels good so it doesn't turn into L4D3
Is BF3 type of gun play okay for you? They aim at beeing on the same level on gunplay, the thing is they really need to slow everything down because you aren't an soldier that's trained in recoil and reloading, it makes all more tense. I think the dev's are forgetting that having a slower reload than this beretta reloading there currently is will greatly improve immersion and will lead to incredible moments in a firefight, they seriously should consider adding time between weapon switches / reloading / aiming down the sight and increase recoil greatly. [editline]3rd September 2012[/editline] Or else this will feel like an large FPS shooter pew pew airsoft style of gameplay.
/\ P much sums up my doubts. The way the guns act make it look really arcadey right now, which will kill the game for me. Imagine if raiding towns consisted of CoD junkies jumping out of corners and dropshotting others.
What they should do is make recoil high and reloading/ weapon switching slow when you first start out. Over time when your character is used to recoil it's not as high as when you started out and you begin to reload and swap your weapons faster. However it shouldn't be super fast reloading like a high level character in Borderlands just somewhat faster but just enough.

Minor increases in reloading and swapping speed/efficiency.
I would prefer lots of long-range engagements that won't be over in just 10 seconds.
Don't make the shooting shit for fuck's sake. I'd rather the gunplay was tight and arcadey but ammo was very sparse than having it like Dayz where the shooting and movement is really shonky but the people who know what they're doing are rolling in ammo
I would prefer lots of long-range engagements that won't be over in just 10 seconds.
For comparison's sake War Inc's long term engagements tend to end rather quickly. Bullet drop may change this but otherwise they should make a lot more alterations to weapons if they're using a similar system.
For comparison's sake War Inc's long term engagements tend to end rather quickly. Bullet drop may change this but otherwise they should make a lot more alterations to weapons if they're using a similar system.
Why is there quality in this post. I am proud zeldar. All they need to do with guns is this: All compared to War Inc -Added Recoil -Slower aim down sight (ADS) -Add shaking effects to hand when shot at or low stamina, been hit. -Reloading needs to take about twice as long as it currently is... I think someone should make a forum post about this, they are open to such suggestions.
Someone put up a fake War Z page on Steam Greenlight. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93862505&searchtext=
