In 31 days. So that means, 185-ish zombies killed per day. Bugger, this makes the game sound less about survival and more about RAAAR I AM THE GREAT DESTROYER OF UNDEAD.
Pretty sure a dev would want to test everything, including if people decide to just go murder every zombie they see so. [editline]22nd July 2012[/editline]
because it's totally impossible that people can have the same idea besides, in the IGN interview one of the guys even says they've been working on it for over a year and yes they played DayZ and liked it and even took some suggestions from the DayZ forums it doesn't fucking matter anyway
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-20-dayz-doppleganger-the-war-z-announced
I take your point, but "fuck all in common"? Titov even says they've used ideas taken from the DayZ forum. DayZ may be very unstable, but it has proven tech underpinning it. Hammerpoint and Arktos are attempting to launch a finished MMO after what sounds like a year, year-and-a-half, in development, and from scratch. And with no proven track record. Would they have set themselves this deadline if DayZ didn't exist?
Using the same idea = clone and a game that's been in production for a while is obviously being rushed by DayZ totally 100%, I think the Eurogamer writer for that article really dropped the ball so did the guy I quoted.
that eurogamer article is disgusting [editline]22nd July 2012[/editline] how FUCKING dare someone try to make another game in very popular genre that shows great promise just who do they think they are???? because we all know dayz created zombies in games
Pre-orders might be available next week and "We will likely give out Beta invites to everyone that preorders the game." From The War Z twitter.
Didn't they mention stuff like urban maps and what not? Personally, I'd hope they mix things up. Maybe make one map that's a sprawling metropolitan city with maze like attributes, then maybe something more based on an open countryside, then blend the two together in a map with a large central city somewhere on the map, and a few outlining towns and suburbs. That'd be neat.
From the screenshots, as well as what they've told us so far that will most likely be the case. The game is currently launching with one massive map and from the screenshots you can see what looks like part of a city and stretches of countryside.
Jesus, 5.000+ zombies killed?
Im more amazed by the bandit kills
There is a day/night cycle, each cycle is a few hours of real world time, so you’ll be able to play both daytime and night time.
yes
we’ll offer players the ability to leave “notes” – short messages that can be found by other players. Profanity aside, players will be able to write anything they want there – so for example you can tell players about danger ahead or you can set a trap for them by telling them that there are some cool items lying somewhere nearby and luring them into trap
holy shit double yes
holy shit double yes
"L0L HAY DUED DER'S A .50CAL SNIPPER RIFFLE 0VR DIS HILL N UH B4RN DUN TEL NE1E" [editline]22nd July 2012[/editline] Yeah that's not going to get old.
" ThiS iS whErE i fuCkd uR MoM lol XDDDDD "
Notes will probably be "HUR DUR NIGGAS/JEWS = ZOMBAHS WE NED 2 EXTURMINAT DEM xD" or something along those lines. But you will probably find something well written.
" the game " " Jutsin Beiber sucks " "I've been out here for a month now. The screaming still hasn't ended, I though it would once I got out of that city but at this point I think it may be a part of me, it's who I am. It's what I see when I lay my head at night. I think the lucky ones were those who died that night in the fires. They never had to learn what living like this was like." " LE Monkey Face !!! "
You'll probably find that people who use correct grammar or write in a fascinating/exciting way are going to get their notes read. IE. Be wary ahead, there is an ambush waiting down the street to your left. I suggest going around the building and going through the alley way behind them and take them out one by one that way. They read it BAM you shoot them in the back and take their shit in the alley way.

Hopefuly notes can be picked up so I definitly would read and leave all the notes that are serious but pickup the stupid notes and destroy them.
In 31 days. So that means, 185-ish zombies killed per day. Bugger, this makes the game sound less about survival and more about RAAAR I AM THE GREAT DESTROYER OF UNDEAD.
Keep in mind it's NOT DayZ. The zombies aren't kenyans pro runners, and they can't see you at 25 KM through walls. Also they don't climb ladders or open doors ( more like going through the fucking door noclip mode actually ). Also :
Depending on location you’ll encounter between one and literally many dozens of zombies at a time. Choosing the right tactics, movement, camouflage (for example you can buy “zombie scent” spray that will save you from being detected in certain situations) or weapon type (silenced weapons are the way to go) you can either end up killing dozens of zombies without being detected or will end up being attacked by hordes attracted by loud sounds, smell, etc.
tl;dr : it will probably be more convenient to kill zombies in WarZ than the bug infested zombies in DayZ.
I'd love to make a series of notes that followed one character specifically, and just sort of scattered around the map for players to find. Non-de-script little diaries. Inherent problem is pretty much everybody would be doing that and it'd either get confusing or people would write deliberate false entries if they noticed enough of them. "Mark Jones, Day 5 Last of what was in the cooler went bad yesterday. Jamie tried to keep a grin on while he scarfed down the last of it and let me have the last of the dry rations. So far he's been doing well, but I'm worried he may end up getting sick. Just wish we'd packed more before we left the dorm." "mark jones, DAy 6 im a massive sperglord faggot who loves jamies cock yummy yummy"
I know it's not an uncommon idea, but I swear I had this same idea for Day Z a few weeks ago Http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/28340-random-bodies-scattered-around-the-world-and-the-stories-they-tell/#entry273184

It's going to be a purchase game, with micro transactions? I'm not too sure anymore.
It's going to be a purchase game, with micro transactions? I'm not too sure anymore.
It's 30$. For something like this it's a fucking bargain.
It's 30$. For something like this it's a fucking bargain.
Yeah, and then pay to win for 250$. I've lost my trust in developers who say that their game isn't going to be pay to win.
Yeah, and then pay to win for 250$. I've lost my trust in developers who say that their game isn't going to be pay to win.
It's not gonna be pay to win, they said it'll just be getting some items quicker than getting them from the world, nothing will be locked out and you won't get any advantages from paying that a regular player wouldn't have.
It's not gonna be pay to win, they said it'll just be getting some items quicker than getting them from the world, nothing will be locked out and you won't get any advantages from paying that a regular player wouldn't have.
We will see.
We will see.
Why does it even matter, 30$ with no subscription fee is amazing for a game like this. And you can even host your own servers.
Why does it even matter, 30$ with no subscription fee is amazing for a game like this. And you can even host your own servers.
You honestly can't say a game is amazing for it's value when you haven't played the god damn thing.
You honestly can't say a game is amazing for it's value when you haven't played the god damn thing.
I'm not saying it's amazing, but an MMO with a payment system like this is a one of a kind thing.
I'm not saying it's amazing, but an MMO with a payment system like this is a one of a kind thing.
Because most paid mmo's don't use a real life money store because you already paid for it.
Because most paid mmo's don't use a real life money store because you already paid for it.
Yeah, 60$ and then 15$ per month. This is 30$ and you're set for life.
Do you really think they're gonna make the shop pay2win with the absolute best items available when the majority of the enjoyment found in these types of games is going out and finding these items yourself? If you want a reason to be skeptical, just know that Sergey Titov, the man interviewed on IGN, was the co-owner of the group that made Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, and programmed it as well. Granted right now he's only part of the company publishing this game, but imo this still merits some concern.

Every items is available to everyone. So its not a Pay 2 Win, maybe in the first few days but later on it should be fine
Players could logically trade their better aid gear (It's food, Hydration and Medkits iirc) for guns scavenged by other players, but then again that's mostly determined by the in game economy, if there is one. Thing that gets my Murder Boner going is the thought that Paid Gear will be drop able from killed players, meaning even if you go out and buy a bunch of medkits and Fiji Water it won't do squat for you when somebody pegs you from across the map and then suddenly has access to a whole backpack of high end shit.
