there's a difference between what someone suggested and what Sergey actually said
it's been said multiple times that in normal mode you would lose all your gear and have a lockout period, but that they weren't sure how long the lockout would be
what i'm saying is that there is no point in having the lockout and that losing your gear would be enough
I'd prefer a 30 minute one or something.
That way you can't retrieve your loot so easily, and you won't be able to get revenge on whatever killed you.
A day or 2 seems too long.
Just a heads up for those who will inevitably show some concern when playing the alpha.
Will loot be different during alpha?
YES.. spawn rates will be slightly increased in order to allowed more testing of weapons/items
Oh yea. Loot everywhere.
All about loot.
I'll make a pacifist character that only collects hats. Once a bandit kills me, the irresistible temptation to fill his inventory with the items will overcome him.

Death by hoarding.
Trying to run from zombies as hats just fall out of his back pack. What a site.

Would be a cool idea that the inventory weight you carry affects your speed like in Zombie Panic. So you can't fucking carry a lmg in your bag while running fullspeed with an as50 equipped like in dayz with every possible tool.
Just want to give you short update on what's going on with War Z and what to expect from the game between October 15th and October 31st.
Lets start with where we're right now. Today we finally merged code between two dev branches and fixed our most notorious bug - zombies being stuck. Thing is that this bug was like our nemesis for quite some time - it cam and go, it only affected map where we had over certain number of active zombies ( like 1000 or so ), etc. We finally fixed it, and additionally fixed bug that allowed some zombies pass thru barricades. No more . Also new system allowed us to spawn way more zombies, so now cities became really really dangerous places to visit.
We reworked zombie combat, so you'll find that zombies became much bigger threat than you saw in a ny of the videos. In fact ALL situations shown in any gameplay videos will be lethal under new AI settings. So - crouch, prone - this will be your only way to get past zombies, unless you have lots of stamina and willing to sprint for some time. Or you're super lucky son of the bitch and have lots of ammo and guns. Even in this case I'll run
So next thing is October 15th launch. In preparation to launch we'll upload game client to our CDN. As you know you'll need to download game launcher ( aropund 5mb ) from link you've got in email recept. Actually anybody will be able to download this launcher - so there's no need to enter any passwords, etc, etc. We also hope you'll spread this launcher thru torrents, usenet, other sites helping more people to get it faster.
Once you'll install it and launch you'll need to validate your serial by providing your serial number and e-mail used to order game. After that you'll create your account password and you'll be ready to go. Launcher will update game to most current version, and you'll be able to play game.
We'll have several hundreds servers available with more on standby. We're going to RESTRICT you to only part of the map - approximately 30%, opening up more and more as we;'re closing toward October 31st. Reason for that is that we want to make sure that you won't get lost and get most of the experience out of those two weeks of Alpha, but more important you'll help us fine tune game, performance, iron out bugs, etc. Trust me there's still shit load of places to explore for first week
Since we're limiting access to map area, we're going to limit number of slots available to public. Here's how it works - normally each server will be set for Alpha at 70 players per server. But in options we can "lock out" certain number of slots for "friends" of server owner ( person who rent server ) - in this case - us . So we'll restrict servers to some number that will feel "right" - probably around 30-40 players - don't really know - we'll find out as we'll start getting feedback from you.
Our goal for Alpha is to fine tune item spawns, zombie AI params, fix obvious gameplay bugs that we can't find until we'll have thousands of players online.
Haven't seen this posted here so... Seems promising if limited at first, but hey... It's an Alpha.
super lucky son of the bitch
I like this guy's broken english :v:
I'd be so tempted to buy this for the Beta if i wasn't going away from the 21st to the 5th of next month. Shame too, but the few days the alpha is open isn't enough to entice me to buy the game, especially since it'll be free later,
If anyone's preordered and doesn't have three friends to give beta keys away to, I'll take 'em...

What will be free later?
[editline]12th October 2012[/editline]
I don't believe there will be a free open beta and the game definitely isn't free so what do you mean

Might buy the Survivor pack then.

I know that backpacks have weight limits, perhaps they will put in a system to slow people down with the weight.
Also, Sergey's notes make everything seem better.

It looks like he actually listens to people, or he knows exactly what the issues are. Either way, the game looks like it will shape up.
i love sergey's broken english, most of the time when a dev or team member posts on a forum it looks like you're just talking to a cheap PR guy, but sergey just seems like a regular user
Late to this thread, so whats the verdict on this?
I don't believe at all it's been in development longer than DayZ, that's bullshit. Why are they treating War Inc like it's ugly little brother? Why isn't it free to play when it has stuff like gold coins? Is this going to be quality game?

Read the thread, there are answers to all those questions

The game isn't even in alpha testing, do you think FP is home to clairvoyants? [sp]It's not, probably[/sp]

What? all 50+ Pages?
You sound like another DayZ fanboy.
Because I think they copied another game?
Well cheers for that anyway.
What? all 50+ Pages?
You cannot/will not hope to grasp the situation if you don't. As people have said above, we've already gone over all these issues already.
Anyone else think the silver knife is better then a bronze gun for a badge? its kind of funny how it goes bronze silver gold but silver is last place :v:
Its literally the only reason i dont want to buy the poineer package.

All that aside, do you like chastise every FPS for being a copy of wolfenstein or what
It's a fucking ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE SIMULATOR. You just can't do this type of thing differently.
change your ways
people like you are the worst.
The first version of Dayz came out in May or late April IIRC. Hammerpoint released screenshots of the game 2 months after that. It's not humanly possible to procure this stuff in such a short amount of time. Get it
There's no way it hasn't been in development since before Dayz was released.

They used slightly edited assets from their other fps.(I forget the name)
Hammerpoint released screenshots of the game 2 months after that
Those weren't screenshots. Those were mockups done in UDK. Check this post.
The game is nothing else than a War Inc mod.

THEY ARE MAKING A GAME AND PEOPLE WILL HAVE FUN IN IT REGARDLESS OF IF IT'S A KNOCK-OFF OR NOT.

How is that related to my post in any way? Your capslock key appears to be stuck, by the way.

I don't know why people get so defensive when someone questions this. The screens they released were not impressive and could have easily been passed as maps for their other game. It is entirely possible, and indeed most likely true, that this game really wasn't in "development" until after DayZ came out. They most likely had an idea for a zombie game, or a zombie mode for their other game, then saw the success of DayZ and decided to go in that direction instead. When the engine has already been created and a large amount of models are already done because of a different game, it really doesn't take a long time to start releasing some hype-up media.
This isn't an inherently bad thing, so many games are inspired by other games or borrow fundamentals from other games while modifying it to be their own unique work. I think people dismissing this as simply a DayZ clone are wrong. I have a ton of reservations about this game, but not one of them is "DayZ clone".
