I agree, I think they'll show it off later but all of the Frostbyte games DICE has released thus far have maps that are extremely similar, as if they cut the single player map in fourths and handed it off. Scripting is fine but I didn't exactly expect a single player mode, especially for a Battlefield (main series) title. Modern Combat had it, yeah sure but that was a console port and was completely separate from the actual PC release.
I loved Modern combat, such awesome graphics on a PS2 at that time!
It's multiplayer was awesome!
Yeah, I will reserve judgment until I see some multiplayer. Not *too* excited for Middle Eastern Urban Shooter #126.
New video up. Looks amazing of course.

Mindblowingly beautiful. They did the eye perception beautifully, the animations aren't theatrical Hollywoody but realistic. It's amazing.
While I'll wait and see, there really doesn't seem to be anything mindblowing with the parts of the singleplayer they showed. I'll wait for the multiplayer footage.
They said Pre-Alpha though, that only means better things are coming from that. That was just a starting point.
Best lighting engine ever perhaps?
The bloom was unbearable after they yelled "RPG" though, at least in my opinion.
Yeah I do not like that reload animation, looks extremely stiff
"Pre-alpha build"
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Though I have to say, 2142's theme is still the best (well 1942's is best, but that's a given so I'm excluding that one).
Looks great so far, now I'm waiting for MP footage and what the whole package will look like. Biggest thing I'm stressing at the moment is securing a summer job that will finance building my new rig to run this baby :D

Although, far too often, games somehow get destroyed between alpha and finished version.
These days you have to set yourself up for a letdown.
That said, what I've seen so far looks amazing and I hope the game stays amazing.
Wow, that footage is incredible. Can't wait till 16th for next footage :D
Does battlefield 3 have a singleplayer story line?
http://www.ea.com/uk/battlefield3/videos/battlefield-3-fault-line-series-episode-1-bad-part-of-town-
My body was not ready.
Would it be too much asked if the whole thing they showed at GDC leaked? I mean, someone must have taped it.
Oh shit, now i'm even more excited, love the scope shooting vibrations
Imagen loading up the game the first time, and suddenly the original BF theme starts to play and you see 5 abrahams tanks driving trough a desert, suddenly the screen switches to an american carrier task force and then an view from the Paris streets of paradrop planes flying trough the sky.
Basically a rehash of the original battlefield 1942 intro. Would be pretty awesome.
Isn't someone interviewing Zh1nto sometime after GDC? If they are I'd also like to know about the health system. Is it regen, healthpacks, or partial regen?
Amazing animations, I love how the guy next to the door on the right changes hands while holding his weapon.
It's the smallest of detail that makes stuff look awesome.

@ 1:13 that is

Every game these days more or less has to have a single player element. The reason its so heavily scripted...is because its singleplayer footage. Who cares about scripted scenes anyway, every shooter these days have it, and if anything it makes things more interesting, dramatic and entertaining.
Saying it looks like nothing like Battlefield is dumb, we havent seen any multiplayer footage yet, and even so, the singleplayer looks great, better than anything COD, MOH or BC1-2 been. What we do know is, animation is on a whole 'nother level to current games, the engine...is on a whole 'nother level, and the sound is yet again brilliant and even more improved than BC2's. So we atleast have that set in stone, multiplayer gameplay, we'll wait and see. But this is DICE and this is BATTLEFIELD not Bad Company, this is DICE's baby, they know what they are doing.
I just hope there won't be a fuckton of DLC's you have to buy, maybe lot a fuckton but still. Instead there could be a whole expansion pack, like in the good ol' days.

I'm sure most battlefield games don't have DLC apart from Vietnam, which is still good.

There is the Karkand pack DLC available to buy from launch, that you get included in the Limited Edition/Pre order.

You also get to see how the ANT animation engine works, it's fantastic.
Like when they're running down a corridor and a soldier goes down a single step like you would normally, instead of being on the top part up to the edge of his player model.
Hoping we get free DLCs

This. I know if you buy the limited edition you get the Back to Karkand map, if not, you have to buy it separately as DLC after the game's release... So what happens if you don't get the Limited edition or want to buy the map, every time the game goes over to that map, you don't play. And Karkand was one of the most popular BF2 maps
I don't care how much dlc there is I WILL BUY IT ALL
