It could just be a depression (like in BC2) with a texture of the cracked asphalt on it. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] Crazier things have happened within gaming, just look at MGS: Raidens gameplay.
Yup, and I really don't want to eat my pubes so I really don't believe it will be in. If you look at how the asphalt cracks and twists and how everything looks very "real", it would require a huge processing power to calculate that in real time, let alone calculate 10 of those at the same time in a 64 player online match all while calculating everything else too. They could just have that a big enough explosion sinks the height-map and the crater is a 3D model placed in the lowered height-map, but then it's not dynamic so I won't have to eat my pubes luckily.
I don't know, I suppose it COULD be dynamic... I mean we've had tunneling through terrain in games near 10 years old, and bad Company 2 doesn't struggle to show 7 or 8 huge chunks of buildings being blown out at the same time... Now I would agree with you about the crater... But I think you're right While the cause could be dynamic I suppose, the terrain cracking isn't going to be... But the building destruction it causes very well could be.
I don't think it should be too big of a problem for them to put dynamic craters in. World In Conflict did this relatively easily with hundreds of craters on the map at a time that actually affected the driving of your vehicles and such.
Yeah, and maps in Battlefield 3 are huge. It's not like there are going to be craters eeeverywhere.
That's the point. This is EA and DICE, they can make some new cool tech. It's not like this is some spin-off or moneygrab game. People thought other things would be impossible or would take huge processing power, but devs come up with sneaky solutions.

I'd like to see gameplay on some open vehicular maps. I couldn't care less for urban atm.
I'd say my first introduction to PC gaming was Unreal Tournament 2004 and Half Life 2. I really got into PC gaming when TF2 came out. Also I hope they release info on the factions that are in the game. I don't want to be just the Americans or Russians.
Epicly, I just realised 1942 was the first PC game experience. When I was younger, my mates older bro at the time was a bit of a PC gamer and me and my mate used to stay up till past 3am taking it in turns playing 1942, 3 deaths then switching for example. We then discovered Desert Combat which was THE SHIT. I then played through his Half Life and expansion games. Eventually, my family bought a relatively decent PC that could play BC2 on low graphics, and it was amazing. Which lead me to upgrading and getting more involved in general. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline]
Just checked out my stats for BF2. My total playing time was 141:48:53. Good times. Go here to check your stats, if you can remember your username. http://www.bf2stats.net/
Mine was a very unhealthy 553:24:39 , yep you can tell LOVED this game as a kid. No other game series has ever had me that hooked and been so entertaining for so long. Enlisted 15/09/2005, 10:00 pm Last Battle 11/04/2007, 5:10 pm I also remember a second account I made just because I wanted a name change. So god knows what my actual play time is.
The problem is we are talking about physics calculations at such advanced levels it would be impossible to have craters like that being dynamic (notice how it's much more than the usual small lowered height-map that we get in nearly all games).
I would be surprised if those holes where dynamic, seams to good to be true. Lol, Just checked my total play time in BF2; 705:55:34. Well what can i say.. I have no life. :(

Saywhaat, only game I have over 100 hours in is BF2.
Saywhaat, only game I have over 100 hours in is BF2.
NWN and Red Alert are the games I played most when I was younger... didnt have much else to play and my comp was shit.
Didn't World in Conflict has one such clever workaround?
WiC had some amazing aspects for a 2007 game. None of them were ever seen again until BF3... Pretty sad how a game that was so amazing just didn't make a bang loud enough.
'Dem ghost pages.
I dislike that. I feel like I have to correct it by posting.
Enlisted: 12/04/2006, 9:21 pm Last Battle: 28/02/2011, 1:56 am Total: 442:19:21 and the only other game to beat that was 2142 @ 642:66:42
'Dem ghost pages.
Looks like you have 666 posts. :v:
Them devilish posts.
No longer.

lemme :bandwagon: my crummy bf2 stats only 141hrs but I think I stopped playing ranked when I found PoE2 and AIX
they should add a silly arcade-like gamemode where you are given an arsenal of explosives, and the person who blows the most shit up in a time-span wins.
Tank training mode where everyone spawns as a tank. That would be chaotic, yet fun and could give people a way to practice using them before going into regular combat and wasting the tanks.

They should include Chopper training mode too then.
