I'm hoping that other PC game developers see the great graphics in this game, and set themselves a goal to match it or even beat it. That means you too, valve. DX11 is your friend.

I dunno why they're pushing DX9 to it's limits so much, yeah they've done great with it and it looks nice, but why bother? Just upgrade it. I'm sure valve could do amazing things with those kinds of capabilities.

Punkbuster keeps kicking me for multiple direct3d loaded. seeing as i don't have a second monitor plugged in Im thinking it has something to do with my laptops shitty integrated graphics card.
Punkbuster will kick you for having multiple monitors, looking at it wrong, and just because it timed out... But it won't kick the guy standing on the roof with an M60 headshotting everyone who gets in his line of sight
Haha, punkbuster kicks you for having Steam Overlay enabled and for having AmbX Lights. Understandable why it's a cheap anti cheat
I've never been kicked by Punkbuster, and I have Steam, 2 monitors and amBX lights. I guess I'm just lucky. But I've heard similar storied from friends, and I've seen enough hackers to know that it's an awful, awful system.
RustySpannerz;28462818']There's nothing wrong with DX9 though, the Crysis 2 demo is using DX9 and it looks fantastic.
Because MORE GRAPHICS = MORE GAME caps Really the differences DX11 produces are marginal at best. They are really grasping at straws at this point, they may as well work on the subtleties of point cloud algorithms at this point and elimnate polygons all together. I just don't see the point in investing so much time in making your games/graphics card dx11 compatible. anyone wanna help me out here? I tried to patch BF2 to patch 1.41 but i just got an error while installing and it broke bf2, so I had to reinstall the whole thing.
My friend said this about me, "All you want is BF2 with better graphics, networking, guns, and maps." I say, how would that be a bad thing?
I'm hoping that other PC game developers see the great graphics in this game, and set themselves a goal to match it or even beat it. That means you too, valve.
My friend said this about me, "All you want is BF2 with better graphics, networking, guns, and maps." I say, how would that be a bad thing?
Well, as good as Battlefield 2 is, it doesn't hurt to make it better. I really hope DICE pulls through.
anyone wanna help me out here?
Why you going for that patch 1.5 is the latest I believe and then it doesn't require you to download each patch individually
My install automatically places 1.41 in. I think its needed. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] because i rebought the collector's edition*

[editline]6th March 2011[/editline] because i rebought the collector's edition*
I have that one but it's patched it to 1.5. You can't play battlefield game sunless you have the latest patch due to the servers, same with generally any game
Well, as good as Battlefield 2 is, it doesn't hurt to make it better. I just want a good true battlefield game again.
The last thing industry needs right now is a race to see who has the best graphics. The one thing I did love about BC1 was the sound, incredible sound work. They jsut need to work that sort of magic, but with visuals. Less focus on bullshit like DX11 tessellation, and more focus on good visual design and efficient use of resources.

The thing with Battlefield 2 that annoyed/annoys a lot of people is that you had to install the patches on top of each other. You can't just patch a 1.5 on top of BF2 patch 1.12 and expect it would run. That shit made me reinstall the game like 2 times back in the day (and you know how fast the patching on BF2 goes...)
One way to solve the big "Who should be allowed to use jets/choppers/tanks" question could similar to the way it works in Project Reality. DICE could simply add a sub-category for vehicle-kits, which allow a limited amount of pilot kits that are the only ones allowed to at least fly/drive the vehicle in question. The shooters could be pretty much anyone. These kits could also have some requirements (tutorials, stats etc.). Would be nice to see people running in pilot gear, entering choppers and jets and actually doing something useful with them!
No, that would remove the entire novelty of Battlefield. The ability to jump into a jet, ejecting and stealing the enemy helicopter was always fun. It gave a huge sense of freedom that Battlefield has. Yes there will be morons who will always crash the chopper 10 seconds after flying, yes there will be those team killers who kill the dude who took the vehicle first. Those are the problems that happen with freedom of vehicles. If we didn't have vehicles, we would have a bunch of infantry only games the first day. The second day, we would have some parts of the community having vehicle kits and flying. The third day, everyone has a vehicle kit BUT the asshole with the best computer will join first, select what he wants, and never change his class. You would be effectively barring most of the players from what made Battlefield games "Battlefield" games, a huge sandbox game that allowed piloting of vehicles, land, sea, and air. I think everybody's forgetting that Battlefield 2 was an arcadey sandbox game that isn't meant to be realistic but ridiculous.
I instantly thought of how people flew to God knows where when you roadkilled them with a transport car right as you mentioned how it should not be "realistic but ridiculous". :v: I swear to God, I was afraid my driving in BF2 would affect how I would drive IRL when I grew up x)
My friend just legitimately offered to sell me his GTX 460 for $75 dollars, should I buy it and put it towards my new PC I'm building for Skyrim/BF3? It's better than what I have now, so why not.
That's not even a question.
Well I don't know if there is something available for that price, or if I should just save for something even better encase BF3 needs something better than the 460, I'm not a computer whizz so I asked.
That's not even a question.
That's not even a real answer :colbert:

But $75 is a steal for it if it's in good condition, little less than half the price 460s are going for on Newegg.

I don't think there should be pilot kits, but I do hope they up the speed of aerial vehicles so it's not so easy to nail ground targets. BF2 was unbalanced in that manner, attack helicopters and jets just have undisputed dominance of all targets. I hope they increase the map boundary limits so jets and helicopters can get some more "slingshot room" but it should be harder for jets and helis to strafe and bomb their targets. It's really annoying when a helicopter flys down, guns down your entire squad and you can do jack shit about it.
