I wouldn't mind that. There's a lot of World War 2 era weapons floating around the middle east left over from the North Africa campaign and numerous Soviet-backed regimes. PPSH41, K98/MG42/MG34, etc. Would make awesome unlocks.
I just hope that all the tactical/tacticool stuff is the default weaponry, and then they provide some nostalgia *vintage* unlocks.
Don't forget the good old SMLE from the British influence in that area during the early 20th century. Hell, throw in a muzzle loader or two.
What I would love to see in the long run is for devs to do high-intensity conventional setting that's post WWII, but without all the high-tech digital shit and precision weapons that became common beginning in the mid 1990s. Today's modern settings feel too "clean" with the abundance of high technology.
What the fuck, this is world war 3, no one uses shitty old weapons from 1945...
Then lets also bring in some muskets and some swords and bow and arrow too?
It's vintage right?
Oh wait, this is turning into tf2

Holy fuck shut the hell up.
Unlike TF2 these weapons would actually be vintage weapons from previous conflicts, not "vintage" weapons that do jack shit. I could easily see the (likely) insurgents you are fighting using older weapons as they are numerous, and cheap to obtain. BC2 had one or two older weapons, they didn't seem out of place at all, even when surrounded with the modern weapons and equipment used in the game.
I long for the days of the 80s and 90s military tech where not every gun has some tactic00l attachment, they used their cold hard iron sights :colbert:
I swear to god, if they make all the unlocks fucking tactic00l I'll go on a virtual killing spree. Bring back some cold war weapons as unlocks. I want a wood furniture L2A1.
Yes, because a red dot sight, a 4x sight, a smoke launcher, grenade launcher and a 40mm underbarrel shotgun totally is tactic00l.
Practical weapon customization would be nice I think. Something like being able to change optics and putting on a foregrip or bipod, you can make a very versatile weapon ideal for a specific role, like a DMR out of an M16.
But then again it would probably take away from what makes each player class unique in its own way, with its strengths and weaknesses.
If it was up to me I'd make a class system that allows only specific weapons within that class, but still have some customization options, like optics. Nothing ridiculous/stupid like red digital camouflage patterns, but actual functional accessories. And all the base weapons would of course be faction specific. And to be honest if it was also up to me, I'd have unlocks be faction specific as well.
I really don't give a damn about weapon customization, BF2 was fine without it, don't really see why it's needed. It always kind of annoyed me in BC2, why it did I have no idea. I just don't like how every other game that comes out has it now. Wouldn't mind if certain weapons came with optics though, like the M4 in BF2. I didn't mind that and it made sense.
Well in real life a soldier can modify their weapon somewhat depending on the mission, they can get an optic sight or a scope if they are available (and if the weapon can do it). Not as much as seen in COD.
I'd like simple customization, like swapping sights or scopes. Maybe an under barrel launcher if you're demolitions. But that s it.

Yeah, none of that flamethrower etc. bullshit. Just simple stuff.
I really hope that CoD hasn't contaminated BF3 with its attachments etc.
I didn't mind the attachments in Bad Company because that game was suppose to be over the top, it wasn't trying to be 'realistic' or what ever. Same with COD MP, it wasn't suppose to be serious.
Now, BF3 is 'serious', so only Sight/Scope swapping please :P
I'd rather it just have ironsights on all of the regular classes, with a few exceptions like the BF2 M4/L85/etc. I liked it better that way, made it so you could still have optics or something if you wanted it, without running around seeing everyone with attachments all over their fucking gun like BC2.
On weapon customization, a BRILLIANT thought just dawned on me. I noticed that in the SP footage none of the rifles had grenade launchers. And I though, well that's sorta weird, in BC2 all the ARs had launchers, even in SP. So I realized, well that must mean you could have an AR without a grenade launcher in MP right? But where would that fit into the 4 classes? But of course...
Maybe when you pick assault, you can choose to either have an AR with launcher and irons, or an AR with eotech/ACOG and no launcher. It would keep things from getting too tactic00l and keep the AR balanced.
I would just like to see foregrips and sights. Don't need crazy underbarrel shotguns or flamethrowers or heartbeat sensors or shit like that.
I'd like no attachments but that's because I'm a nostalgic fuck who just wants BF2 HD and hates change

It contaminated BC2 with them, no reason they wouldn't be in BF3

This, and flashlights for dark interiors. I hope there is no restrictions on attachments (like you can only have one attachment) aside from grenade launchers.
Also if I see medics with machine guns again I will cry.
Separate Knife weapon instead of hot-key, please.
Also if I see medics with machine guns again I will cry.
I thought they were staying with the 4 class rule?
Separate Knife weapon instead of hot-key, please.
Yeah, it's much more fun that way, I remember all the times in BF2/BC1 where me and a guy would be having some awesome knife fight with knives drawn, stabbing furiously at each other.
I thought they were staying with the 4 class rule?
Which is dumb as fuck to me, I think BF2's classes were perfect.
Oh well time to buy tissues.
BF2 could use slimming down. As I said, 5 classes, with support put into assault and anti-tank put into engineer would be great.
Or 2142 style. 4 classes but with a lot more customization.

I like assault being it's standalone class, it makes it so he's a really effective fighter with his grenade launcher and assault rifle, but he still needs his teams support from a support gunner to keep himself stocked with ammunition, which it should be like to promote team work. it also just kinda made more sense to me that the guy carrying the big heavy machine gun and a big backpack would be carrying the extra ammo for everyone. I will agree with the engineer+AT part, they seem like they were meant to be in the same class.

I'm guessing there'll be insurgents, in which case I hope to see some old beater AKMs, G3a2's, FN FALs, Mosnin Nagants, No. 4's, etc. I tire of using shiney black fully auto weaponry covered in attachments, there were no attachments in the previous games and I loved it. I wouldn't mind a few attachments, but I mean they don't need to have attachments shooting out the wazoo like in CoD. I'd like to be able to use some scopeless bolt action rifles and such... the unlocks are mostly about novelty to me anyways, and I'd like to use some classics.

The ppsh 41 with the attachments is actually pretty cool, though :v:

That ppsh looks so silly...
I wouldn't mind seeing them put weapons like that in the game, it would be a great break away from the usual HERE IS YOUR AK, HERE IS YOUR M4, HERE IS YOUR SCAR, HAVE FUN! most games have now, but I doubt they'll end up doing it, sadly. Heres hoping they prove me wrong.
Ppsh wouldn't look silly if it was sending 71 rounds at your face. Despite the dinosaur ammunition it uses I'm convinced that the PPsh would still be quite an effective urban combat weapon. It's a lead hose.
Seems that US soldier in the last image has taken a liking to his.
I never said it wouldn't be effective, anything that pisses 50+ rounds that fast is undoubtedly a good Close quarters weapon, doesn't change the fact that it looks silly as shit with all those doodads on it.
I never said it wouldn't be effective, anything that pisses 50+ rounds that fast is undoubtedly a good Close quarters weapon, doesn't change the fact that it looks silly as shit with all those doodads on it.
Silly, or absolutely awesome?
Yeah, I prefer it without. Still, there's no doubt that insurgents in Iraq have a lot of those things (about 6-7 of them in those pictures), would definitely like to aimlessly spray lead with one. Not sure if DICE is on board with those sort of weapons, though.
Whoa, I think there's an M1 carbine in the first picture. Oh, the irony!
I wish Battlefield games were asymmetrical. If i'm fighting god damn insurgents, they should generally be weaker, have shitty weapons, but have better positioning(maybe spawn on rooftops on captured points)and or move faster.

Just because they're insurgents doesn't necessarily mean they have shit weapons. I don't think you know what that word means.

If you want shit like this, just play Project Reality.
Battlefield 3 should not be entirely realistic.
