I am actually playing MAG right now while my computers out for repairs, Battlefield 3 should totally get a mode like acquisition.
More like aquisoshon!
Ooooh, burn!
I think there are plenty of ways to create a teamwork environment without making a game about realism, which would push a lot of the core battlefield fans away I think.
To an extent I agree, but there is nothing wrong with "mock"-realism. Or something that gives the sense of urgency and realism, while not being too overboard.
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
But really, I am not sure how else to make teamwork appealing.
Realism requires it and typically has players mature enough to handle it. Arcade is a free-for-all. I just can't find what would make a good middle-ground
A game developer friend of mine said something very poignant when he was testing a game of his: "People like the idea of teamwork shooters, but they don't want to work as a team". You typically have to give the player an incentive to work as a team. Sure, some people will just spontaneously start working together towards a common goal, but the casual player, the arcade player, the Battlefield player, needs to be rewarded for helping others, and not forced into a situation that requires a teammate. I think Bad Company 2 broke a lot of ground in this regard by giving every class something to do, as well as the spotting mechanic. You are rewarded richly for helping your teammates, both tangibly (progression unlocks come faster the more you give ammo, heal, spot, and repair) and transparently (getting more points on the scoreboard). That's why I don't think realism is a good direction to take the Battlefield series: Not out of any hate for realistic games, but because the I feel it would push a lot of players away from the traditionally arcadey series.
That's understandable and true.

What they need to do in BF3 also is to give lots of points or some sort of reward to transport chopper pilots so people actually use them
... unlike BF2... (wherein I get gangbanged by J10s)
Maybe we need to make a game where if you don't use teamwork you are perma-banned

teamwork action every 10 second or it counts as suicide? Let's force a playstyle that should be eased into and enjoyed, see what happens. Oh, i know. Everyone will HATE the thought of it.
Have a little timer at the top, and when it reaches 3 it makes a heartbeat sound, then a louder one, then an even louder one, then you just die.
"Oh my god I can't see any teammates no wait wait NOOO"
Raidyr has had an aneurysm.
Or how about a global script that will especially force Raidyr to join a squad and do teamwork while the game runs super-realism mode for him called "project reality" on every single BF2 server, also forces him to take unneccessary routes that will take him atleast 40 minutes to reach any destination, and also informs every opposition sniper players about his location exactly when the 40 minutes is passed
No.
Being forced to join a squad is a good thing though, that really should be in most servers for BF3 (not as part of the game, but server admins should run script for that).
You guys still bitching about a feature that's not going to be in the game...

It's called ARMA II
I hope they implement a similar squad system like in BF2 where you could make your own squad with a squad leader you could spawn onto and give orders to the squadmembers as the squadleader.
I loved how coordinated squads in BF2 were giving orders around and pushed together towards a flag, focusing on a more strategic approach rather than spamming grenades and sniping around hoping for the best.
You could have so that everyone were in "preset" squads like in the BC games, but afterwards you could choose to make a squad for friends/people you know to be more strategic/fun on your own.
Just a suggestion, no idea how this would work on consoles though.
I hope Humvees and the MEC vehicle has a radio, it would be cool, I don't want the radio on the jets or the tanks, that would be kinda weird and unfitting.
Shouting propaganda messages while flying the MEC jets, telling you to crash the jet when you are near death :v:
"Quick, countrymen, attack the massive wave with yourselves!"

Too soon?
No, actually, it's stupid because you aren't really entitled to much.
BF3 isn't your game, you didn't design it and you have no real say in it's actual design and creation, let alone of BF itself as a series. There's a difference from caring as a fan, and than going "MY BATTLEFIELD GAMES".
Also, what is so bad about PR?
That's what I was saying already. My own post:
That's the problem. You want something SUPER SERIOUS out of a Battlefield game. I don't think Dice ever had the idea of Battlefield games being super serious simulation games. I'm pretty sure they made them the way they did because that's how they wanted to make them. They wanted a cool first person shooter that had large levels and lots of vehicle warfare, without being annoyingly realistic and tedious. If they had wanted the game to be like that, they would have made 1942, Vietnam, BF2, BF2MC, 2142, BFHeroes, BC1, 1943, BC2 and all 7 expansions have some of those features. Oh wait, BF1942 was released on September 10th, 2002, and none of them have had SUPER REALISM SUPER SERIOUS in them. Dice is NOT making SERIOUS FPS MILITARY SIM games, they're making fun Action/almost Arcade FPS/Vehicle warfare games.
I don't know why people are trying to tell Dice how to make their games 9 years after they started. They've been doing fine for the last 9 years and 16 games (including expansions).

Maybe we need to make a game where if you don't use teamwork you are perma-banned
That's what most PR servers feel like already. I'm not saying that to bash it, but that's how it is. If you join the server and you're not sure what you're doing, you will get kicked out of every squad. PR servers have the auto-kick feature if you don't join a squad. You're basically doomed to be kicked from the server unless you know what you're doing, but you can't know what you're doing if you've never played.

I think it was great in BF:Vietnam. Might work in BF3 too!

It was great in Vietnam, yeah but in BF3 its modern time so they need to listen to the radio and stuff instead of being distracted by a radio.

Hah, thank you :v:
Made it myself from a pic in the LMAO pics thread!

It's a game not real warfare
Why do they announce DLC before the game is even out? Money grabbing fucks.
I'm not sure what PR servers you guys join, but I've never been kicked and I was more or less a complete newbie (downloaded PR 3 days ago, before that I had played it a very long time ago when it was still a much older version, so I really did not remember much). Just join generic-named squads (don't join "Tank squad VOIP" if you don't know how to use tanks and don't have VOIP), don't join VOIP marked or MUMBLE marked servers (nor a clan server) and for the rest just try not to be in the other's way (don't take a vehicle that fits 7 and drive it alone to the front because you want to start shooting, wait for the others instead). Hell I don't even have VOIP and I did happen to teamkill a pair of guys by mistake (there was an admin there, but I just said sorry and that was that).
Maybe I've been lucky (been playing mostly on one server, and yes I've only played it for a few days, but those are the "newbie" moments, if you aren't going to get kicked the first days for being a newbie...).

What DLC?

It's free with the pre-order though.
What DLC?
Back to Karkand
What DLC?
I think he means the pre-order DLC (which you have to buy if you don't pre-order).
It's free with the pre-order though.
Still, it's annoying to say "hey, you didn't pre-order so you can't have 5 of the old maps"
