I point you to Vietnam. You guys' memory is a joke sometimes.
Like maqzek just said, Vietnam is not a map pack. It's actually a 'minigame inside maingame' in my opinion. It's much more than 'just a DLC'.
@maqzek
I think that it's good to have some bonuses for pre orderers.
Maybe Dice is counting on pre orders, true, but I think they are not doing this just for 'securing the sales'.
As someone who is going to pre-order anyway, I don't see why they are making people pre-order for content that was planned to be in the game from the get go. We are 8 months from release and we know the content is there, just put it on the disk.

The terrorists want ideas?
How about this. A pulse watch wired to bombs, if the subjects pulse drops below 10 for 30 seconds the bombs detonate. Totally feasible and perfect for for example bank heist threats.
Holy shit they just did this in todays episode of Chuck, I am a god of predictions and ideas.

They did that in Lost too.
It makes me think that they are not so confident in BF3 profit so they are securing sales before release/reviews.
No, its just good marketing. Makes us; the consumer, want it more. It also shoves more of an incentive in our face to go and pre order it.
Vietnam isn't a mappack, and DICE was releasing mappacks for free on PC platform.
There are 4 maps. You can call it an expansion or whatever you want, but it does not change that it is Downloadable content containing a pack of maps.
Like maqzek just said, Vietnam is not a map pack. Your opinion is exactly 180 of the hard, straight facts. A downloadable expansion consisting of 4 maps is still a map pack, new skins or not. Stop trying to glorify DICE for not doing something that they already have done and which isn't villainous in the first place.
It's true that they release free maps which makes them a boatload better than Activisions obviously violent moneygrab. It's obvious that they only charge when they have to produce some amounts of new assets to "sell the package". That is acceptable. mappacks do not equal shit. I know Activision destroyed the word and equated it to money grab but a pack of maps is also a pack of maps. A duck is a duck, don't call it a swan.
RustySpannerz;28616045']They did that in Lost too.
Except that it's not just 4 new maps. It has completely new weapons, completely new player models, completely new vehicles and the radio feature. That is so much more than just a map pack.

In my book it can be classified as both therefore referred to as both but one cannot say that it is not the other. Notice I did not refute it being an expansion but rather that it is not a map pack, which it is.
I think it was half game, half map-pack. Hence why it was only £10.

But it's not a map pack. Just because new maps is one of the things it adds does not make it a map pack.
True, 'Back to Karkand' is an 'Pre order' bonus. It's not a real 'pay to get' DLC.
Unlike Acitivision I think Dice wont publish any map pack you have to buy.
That's just because they can't beat Activision at that, so trying to imitate Activision would not end well (not because DICE is some benevolent force that only wants to do good and does not care about money). They would if they could though, if not DICE then EA would just force them anyway.
I will not spend a penny on Battlefield 3 unless mod support is 100% confirmed/until mod support is released.

This ridiculous. there was much map than anything else in that bundle. I could agree if there was mere expanding content added, but there wasn't. it was 5 maps with re-skinned soldiers and weapons slapped on and then a bit of "fortunate son" as a final touch. If anything, it's a re-painted map pack.

Your logic is faulty. New sounds, new maps, new settings, new vehicles, new guns. Is not just a repainted mappack. I have seen expansionpacks back in the days when they were still called expansionpacks (console-dlc was non-existent) with LESS content than bc2 vietnam. Stop this silly discussion please

Can't you say the same about almost any sequel of any FPS shooter? You can simplify every FPS game down to "they're all the same guns with varying stats."

I know right, DICE is turning into Activision, trying to sell us BF1942: BF2, BF1942: BC2 and BF1942: BF3 DLC's.
...but I'm better than that! Im not buying their 3rd installment of mappack, regardless if they make it 256player-capable! Yeah! Go me!

Ya kno wot? If you want it to call it a shitty expansion/DLC, just say it, not need to be calling it a mappack.

I'll happy enjoy "nothing" as opposed to my implicit support of a PC game without mod tools. I played vanilla BF2 for maybe 100 hours before I was bored. I've sunk at least 500 hours into AIX and other bullshit mods. So yeah, nothing is better than another Bad Company 2 for me. I'm still pissed that onslaught isn't available for PC.

BF3 is not the only game I would be forced to play, you know.
If BF3 has mod tools I'll buy it day one. If it has no mod tools I'll buy it when it becomes cheaper.
Really it's a matter of if DICE is going to go the whole 9 yards or not. If mods tools are out, I'll be on board that shit immediately, if not I'm in no rush to buy the game since I'll probably be playing TES:V and RO:HOS (both of which have confirmed mod tools). Really I'm only planning on buying 3 games this year, and if BF3 has no mod tools, TES: V and RO:HOS are going to blow it out of the water.
Don't get me wrong, I love Battlefield, but if it's anything like the last two "true" BF games, they'll start to get pretty annoying after a while... at least with the last 2 games by the time I got frustrated with the vanilla gameplay, there were mods out, but if DICE makes some bullshit excuse like "Our engine is too powerful for your computer :smug:" or something like that, then I'll just have to wait a while before I buy the game, since I'll be very busy modding the other two.

If PC doesn't get mod support, the fact that DICE have confirmed that PC is getting all the DLCs the consoles are getting might make you feel better.
why when in that video from the big screen or something, when he is shooting the LMG, why is there absolutely no recoil?
No overheating?
Beh... Not liking it so far

Overheating with a LMG or GPMG is kind of stupid.
I'd definitely like recoil... I'm assuming there is a cone of fire at least, like in BF2, though I prefer recoil over CoF.

Alpha build. Most guns don't even have ironsights yet.
Alpha build. Most guns don't even have ironsights yet.
This is true, I'm hoping over time they just don't decide otherwise or become to lazy to fix it.

While LMG's and the versatile weaponry used in Iraq/Afghanistan doesn't usually overheat, I agree. A sporadic field of bullets would be even more... Pitiful. LMG's have a tendency to lose their accuracy after shooting/spraying. In 3 round bursts it even still becomes vigorous, refer to the Russian PKM:

It's only really accurate in bursts, and that is what I hated what they did with the LMG's and what not in BF2. The 'cone of fire' as you say is just plain retarded, if anything they should only be fired in a prone or when the bipod is resting on something, if not then the recoil goes beserk. Make them use the ironsights for the LMG's as well, what they did with Red Orchestra. I loved that.
LMGs like the M249 might have a tenancy to overheat due to the huge rate of fire, lightweight nature of the weapon, and massive volume of ammo, but with most modern GPMGs (M240, PKM) can have thousands of rounds put through them before their performance is affected badly. usually you'll run out of ammo before the weapon has overheated enough to melt, expand, or warp.
My hope is that LMGs will be more prone to cone of fire and overheating, but when I use a manly-man gun like a GPMG I expect the downside to be that it's slow to deploy and raise to ironsights, but I want to lay down some serious lead with GPMGs; few games represent them as they should.
Tomorrow is trailer time!
A friend from college told me that the graphics were practically photo-realistic, I didn't believe him.
And then I opened this thread...
I am so fucking hyped for this game now
