A slide similar to the one in Crysis 2? That would be nice, but wouldn't feel Battlefieldish...
Well that one was a little over the top. Just something like how you dive in Black Ops. I thought that was cool.
I've heard a rumor that "Back to Karkand" will be paid-for DLC at launch. Are they seriously going to do launch DLC for this game?
If you don't pre-order the game, yeah, you will have to buy it.
I've heard a rumor that "Back to Karkand" will be paid-for DLC at launch. Are they seriously going to do launch DLC for this game?
Honestly, it's safe to assume almost every game will have Launch Day DLC, or DLC soon after launch. And I hate it.
It's a throwback map pack. So yeah, they might do. But going by DICE in the past, hopefully they will make it free for people who bought the game new. A much more effective DRM than whatever they insist on using.
If they ship it free with the game as a redeemable, I suppose that would be fine (not like you can resell PC games anyway :/). Console gamers would be pissed though.
If you don't pre-order the game, yeah, you will have to buy it.
The way it was explained to me is you have to pre-order the limited edition to get it. I assume the limited edition likely contains nothing else worth having so that would defeat the purpose. Yeah, might be skipping on BF3 until the price comes down if this is the case. I have no intention of buying a $60 game with DLC at launch.
Demize said when it was first announced that every pre-order is automatically Limited Edition, and AFAIK the Back to Karkand pack is the only thing that separates it from "regular" edition. Wiki concurs
Pre-orders of the Limited Edition of the game grant access to a DLC pack called "Back to Karkand", to include four maps and several weapons and vehicles brought over from Battlefield 2.[9] The offer will end when BF3 is released, but leaks from EA indicate that the pack will become available for general purchase after one month.[10]

We don't know how long the game has actually been in development nor do we know what's done and what's not done. The game is still in pre-alpha, which means it's buggy and far from done, and I'm sure they want to make mp awesome before they show it. Finally, it's all about hype, if they showed mp first then we wouldn't be so hyped up about it, nor would it seem as special at release. Personally I only want to see a small ammount of mp footage, so when the game is out I will (hopefully) suprised and amazed.
Thus why I said I would like to see the MP. I don't care about toher people's hype, I just want to know if the gameplay is good or not. I'm probably going to buy the game anyways, when I buy the game after release is defined by how good the MP gameplay looks (once again, I don't mind seeing bugs and WIP stuff, but I guess others do).
Speaking of pre-order. Does anyone know when or if it will come out on Steam?
Dunno whether to bother pre-ordering this myself. I would love to, but recently I seem to be having a hard time sticking to games like this long enough. I've started getting more enjoyment out of short stints on Just Cause 2 for example.
I think its safe to say it will definitely be on steam. Probably by the end of summer tho.
Does EADM have horrible DRM compared to Steam?
EADM doesn't have DRM. It is a download manager. You can play games you downloaded using it without actually having it up.
EADM doesn't have DRM. It is a download manager. You can play games you downloaded using it without actually having it up.
Oh, I probably confused myself. I meant like, if I were to uninstall or install on another computer, is there a limit?
Wait.. They're doing DLC at launch with their game? ... Just... ... I don't know. I want to say this is going to be the FPS of 2011, but.. seeing that.. I'm gonna have to wait till more things come around.
Not DLC at launch, 'return to karkand' will be released to non-prepurchasers a month after BF3 release.

Here's a link to the official website containing information about the limited edition where you get the so called "DLC": http://www.ea.com/battlefield3
Oh, I probably confused myself. I meant like, if I were to uninstall or install on another computer, is there a limit?
No, but the only time I had to install EADM content on another computer was years ago for 2142 so things might have changed, or it might be on a by-game basis.
No, but the only time I had to install EADM content on another computer was years ago for 2142 so things might have changed, or it might be on a by-game basis.
Oh, so it's essentially Steam, but just a different program for EA-related only games. I might as well pre-order now then.
Hopefully jets need to land this time to get rearmed/repaired
Landing the F-35 at base after I've been flying for a while, then jumping into some other vehicle made me feel like a total boss. [editline]18th March 2011[/editline]
I love how human they are, rather than everyone speaking like military robots.
BC2 had wonderful sound. I especially like a russian line that is said when you shoot someone down to 30% health. It sounds like: "Now we're gonna get funky!"
Oh, so it's essentially Steam, but just a different program for EA-related only games. Personally I am going to wait to see if Gamestop or Steam have some kind of exclusive bonuses. Every pre-order is a guaranteed limited edition and it's not like they are going to run out of disks.

Then once everyone got it they used it endlessly and I got sick of it.
How will the pre-order vehicles work for those who didn't pre-order? A giant moving error model like in Gmod?
How will the pre-order vehicles work for those who didn't pre-order? A giant moving error model like in Gmod?
uh the old vehicles will just be in the old maps. :downs:
A month without strike at karkand? SWEET!
Here's a link to the official website containing information about the limited edition where you get the so called "DLC"
What's NOT DLC about it? It's laughable enough that Vietnam didn't count as DLC, but this is just plain thick.
Back to Karkand is what console people call "On-disc DLC" (except that on PC having it on the disc is just asking "Hey guys go ahead and unlock it yourselves"), it doesn't necessarily imply that it's already on the disc, but that it's already made and ready and the only reason it's not included in the game is to make more money. Which is what people hate, it's not something developers worked on after the release of the game, it was already done.
GamingTips posted an article with information about the Frostbite 2 engine and it's details. As DICE said before, PC will be the leading platform for Battlefield 3. BF3 will still look really good on the consoles, but it is restricted to 24 players whereas PC players can enjoy up to 64 players online (another 40!) The details for Frostbite 2: Frostbite 2 will only support DirectX 10 and 11, as we reported. Frostbite 2.0 is recommended to run on 64-bit CPUs and versions of Windows The engine will have a new set of compilers and pipelines, which will improve its diversity and open the possibility to mod tools. Tile-based deferred shading via DirectCompute, which will improve performance. Morphological Anti-Aliasing (MLAA), implemented with DirectCompute, which provides better bandwidth conservation (exclusive DirectX 11 feature). Real-time radiosity (a dynamic light source with HDR), powered by the Enlighten middleware engine, previously used in God of War 3 for the PS3 Improved environment destruction.
Nothing new but hey.

So what guns are you guys expecting in BF3? Any attachments you want / don't want? Do tell!
