At least the guy on the cover doesn't have a burning crotch this time.
Anyone know how many classes will be in the game? I miss the numerous classes.
More small details from Dice employee twitters, nothing too big though. Here's some quotes from an article that summed up some of the twitter messages: Alan Kertz, Gameplay Designer
Gameplay Designer Alan Kertz has stated that it will be unlikely that there will be a server browser for console versions of the game, and that it was purely the technical limitations of the 360 and PS3 that cut the number of online players on console from 64 to 24.

Yes, really prone. Don't worry about the balance part, I've got it covered... I hate shooting delays. There's plenty of other ways to balance prone than keeping people from shooting... I see prone as a tactical decision, become a small target, give up mobility. MoH MP and BC2 used the same weapon and FOV systems... BF3 is an upgraded version. Tracers are in, period. Players need to feel the fire fight, and tracers add to that feeling. You can hide other ways... No, no tracer darts. That's a bit too BC and not enough BF.
And here's something which Alan Kertz said which makes me think that BF3 might live up to my expectations.
You don't kill COD by trying to be COD. You kill COD by making a better shooter.
Source: http://games.on.net/article/11534/More_Battlefield_3_Details_Emerge The article got its information from Alan Kertz's twitter(Gameplay Designer) and Christina Ann Coffin's twitter(Frostbite engine coder)
I'm confused he said that there will be tracers but there wont be tracer darts?
Yeah seriously what the fuck he just completely contradicted himself
I'm confused he said that there will be tracers but there wont be tracer darts?
Tracers as in bullet tracers so you see where you are shooting. Not tracers used to track vehicles.
I'm confused he said that there will be tracers but there wont be tracer darts?
He means tracer rounds, seeing your bullets fly. [editline]6th February 2011[/editline]
I really hope the MEC makes it in. It's somewhat rare to see real Middle Eastern armies and not Russians or Middle Eastern terrorists.
Well they're sorta implying it by including Karkand.
Another tracing system that isn't tracer darts
Tracers as in bullet tracers so you see where you are shooting. Not tracers used to track vehicles.
Awwwww. I'm gonna miss tracer darts :saddowns:
I really hope they have team based weapons (if your on US you have a M16, Russia an AK, etc...)
As I said somewhere before, I would like it to apply to unlocks as well. Say you unlock an SMG, when you play for the US it appears as an MP7, but when you play as Russians it'll appear as a PP2000. But other than appearance, they're statistically identical. [editline]6th February 2011[/editline]
Awwwww. I'm gonna miss tracer darts :saddowns:
They'll probably have guided missiles like the SRAW and ERYX from BF2 or the AT4 from BC2.
Awwwww. I'm gonna miss tracer darts :saddowns:
The Battlefield series, to me, almost ensures communication. A commander on the ball would be more useful letting you know of enemy armor movements than 1 tracer dart at a time. Still, I don't think they should abandon it entirely - at least mark it for your squad at least, maybe other squads too, but remove the missile lock-in feature.
I liked tracer darts. :(
tracer darts were way too easy
I liked tracer darts. :(
Me too, but they have their place, and that place is not in Battlefield 3.
Shit I'm going to need to get a new pc as bc2 rapes my pc. My processor just can't handle it. 24 players won't cut it.
I'm probably going to end up building a new PC for this game as well. It's about time for a new one anyways.
I also hope they once again have much larger maps. I felt that Bad Company had the games squished into a small part of the map.
Don't know if this is new or not but fucking tracers (rounds not the tracer gun) and they're bringing back the spotting system, quality stuff!
Don't know if this is new or not but fucking tracers (rounds not the tracer gun) and they're bringing back the spotting system, quality stuff!
What do you mean by spotting system? If it's what I think it is, it never left Battlefield. Although you may mean the spotting system which was used in BF2142 and BF2 which was more advanced then the one in BFBC2. If so that'd be great, I'd also love to see the commo rose again. Also the tracer rounds we know about, I posted it around the top of this page.
Don't know if this is new or not but fucking tracers (rounds not the tracer gun) and they're bringing back the spotting system, quality stuff!
What about tracers? You never finished your sentence about them.
What about tracers? Players need to feel the fire fight, and tracers add to that feeling. You can hide other ways."
I hope PLA makes it in, in my opinion they even had the best loading theme of BF2.
I want dead bodies piling up EVERYWHERE! Think of the movie "Enemy at the Gates". I want to be able to blend in with the sea of bodies around me. I've had enough of every game just making the bodies disappear after like 10-seconds. If you can blow up buildings then you can have a few corpses lying around. They don't even need to be ragdolls!
...That's a bit too BC and not enough BF.
Well, I'm really glad they realize there's a difference

Two people posted DLC many pages back, and it's in the OP.
Yeah from what I've heard I meant the spotting system from BF2 and BF2142 not the crappy BFBC2 one.
I liked the spotting system in BC2, it was simple, one button press and the team knows exactly what your seeing. [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] one other thing, I can't shake the feeling that BC2 classes are designed so that lonewolf players that are so prevalent on consoles 'Accidentally' help the team. ie you throw down a med pack to heal yourself but it also heals nearby teammates, same with the ammo pack but what I hated about that is that they gave it TO THE ASSAULT CLASS, in the early days of BC2 I'm sure most of the people who played assault didn't even know they had the damn thing and Giving the Medic a machine gun, nay, THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON IN THE GAME, was probably thought up to make medic a more attractive class. but anyway the point I'm trying to make is this, give us our classes back but keep the combination's that make sense. like putting the engineer and anti-tank class together, fine this makes perfect sense and works quite well from a gameplay perspective. or specops and sniper as one sneaky bastard class, this also works. My class list for Battlefield 3 is as follows. Assault = Rifle and Grenade Launcher (general combat class, he shoots things with his gun and launcher, pew pew pe-BAHBOUSH.) Recon = Sniper Rifle, C4, possibly Arty Spotter and/or trip Mines (goes behind enemy lines and kills people covertly and breaks things that look important and also provide long range support.) Engineer = Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, AT Mines, Wrench (fixes vehicles with one hand and turns them to burning piles of scrap with the other.) Medic = SMG, medpack, defib (keeps the team alive.) Support = LMG, Ammo Pack, and some other goodies (keeps the team shooting and provides suppressing fire.)

The SMGs and Shotguns should be an All Class thing.
No way I hated having clasess limited to types of guns. The SMGs and Shotguns should be an All Class thing.
they have too, for example, if the assault class doesn't have a Rifle he can't use his grenade launcher so he is effectively just a dude with a Gun which renders him redundant with the loss of his main Attribute because everyone has a Gun. The assault class is designed to be a jack of all trades combat class with the ability to use his under barrel grenade-launcher to blow up the cover the defenders or attackers are hiding behind to make it easier for him and his team to secure an objective hence the name Assault. Classes should be and are designed to have a specific roll on the battlefield and have tailor made equipment for that role.
They should make reviving a bit more complicated, not instant in other words. Something like the America's Army system (Hold a button town to revive, not doing the little minigame thing.) That'd stop people suicide reviving altogether, probably. Most SMGs in BF2 and 2142 were completely useless except at around 10m distance. MP5 was good though. A carbine rifle would do.
