I didn't care about shotgun range in BC1, they were meant to dominate close range, but with the slugs you could kill someone across Arica harbor, easily. Lord knows I did it more than once.
They don't help too much.
Lets talk about BF3 now.
Good idea.
4 classes? If I were to guess: Recon - Mix between Sniper and Spec Ops class from BF2. Support - Mix between Assault and Support class from BF2. Engineer - Mix between Anti-Tank and Engineer from BF2. Medic - No mix/changes from BF2.
Probably not Support, probably Assault.
FUCK. Everything sounds awesome besides the fact that there's only 4 fucking classes. Im sorry, but I don't see ANY way that 4 classes can be pulled off without at least one being OP. (IE Engineer and Medic from BC2) Unless the role of the sniper were to be completely eliminated. One can dream.

I always had this map idea lingering in my head for Project Reality, but maybe putting this in BF3 might be cool: The US or Brits or whoever are escorting 3 aircraft carriers, and the Chinese or MEC or whoever are stationed on various islands around the place where the aircraft carriers are being escorted. The defenders can spawn on any 3 carriers, while the attackers can spawn on any island in the map. The attackers have boats and maybe aircraft, while the defenders also have aircraft.
Yea but come on, how hard would it have been to add at least one more?
Seriously, Spec Ops, Assault, Recon, support, medic. engineer/anti tank Could be rolled together. BF2 had the best class system out of them all, for sure.
Oh, if on a New York map they had the statue of liberty or something, do you think the same shit that happened with GTA IV would happen with this, like the government thinking terrorists would use it to plan terrorist attacks with planes or something?
This reminds me, I remember reading a story long a go about how terrorists were using BF2 to train their soldiers or something stupid like that.
This reminds me, I remember reading a story long a go about how terrorists were using BF2 to train their soldiers or something stupid like that.
"Ok, when you see dirty american pigs, dive on the ground and and shoot madly at them, they will not hit you!"

Yep, I found the video: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2105341

I'm just hoping that the requirements are reasonable. I still can't run BC2 properly.
I'm just hoping that the requirements are reasonable. I still can't run BC2 properly.
I don't think a game running a newer version of the same engine with bigger maps and generally more everything will run better. Unless they do quite a bit of optimizing...
Guys, what's the news since the Teaser release? I've watched this and I got really pumped up: [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foXVF7q035Y[/hd] :woop:
You're kind of late. Also, they very first room they show in the frostbite teaser thing reminds me a lot of Mirror's Edge.
I'm just hoping that the requirements are reasonable. I still can't run BC2 properly.
On some setups, BC2 was optimized badly for. My system (Q6600, 4gb RAM, GTX 285) should have been able to have run it with no issues, and I wasn't able to get over 30 fps no matter what settings. Now Vietnam on the other hand, runs great. Highest settings and I never drop below 60 fps.
I could run BC2 with great FPS somewhere between medium-high settings, which is more than fine, considering I'm on a laptop.
It's radiosity. That's what made Mirror's look so good. And I know I'm late, I asked for what's new on Battlefield 3 since the teaser
Did you see the scans/info posted a few pages back?
Why are there only four classes? I'm going to miss the days with 7 classes and the ability to choose between them... :(
Why are there only four classes? I'm going to miss the days with 7 classes and the ability to choose between them... :(
I already miss them.
I went to play some BF2 for some 7 class fun. And all I have to say is FUCKING PUNKBUSTER
The game is already fucked up. DICE is in charge of the netcode.

Story mode? Bleugh. Just reading the dialogue where they have to censor the word fuck like 6 times makes me uneasy. Also there is one slow motion scene. Please don't go the way of modern warfare BF3. Also, the game isn't launching with the SDK? The frostbyte SDK is too complex for people to handle? Just release it anyways and I am sure people will learn. They are also talking about how the destruction system is better, if it's anything like Bad Company 2's I am not impressed. Still waiting for true physics based destruction system like Red Faction: Guerrillas. The game still looks magnificent though.
I'd happily play a 64 man vBF2 server. AIX was cool and everything, but fuck me it's big (:q:). Though sniping actually seemed to work in it. If you do get one up, I think we have that Steam group you can send alerts through. [editline]7th February 2011[/editline] You are thinking Ambient Occlusion. proper occlusion is a optimization function. [editline]7th February 2011[/editline] A full BF series (non BC) would be nicer than one dedicated to a game that isn't out yet.
You're both wrong, secondary occlusion is shadowing from bounced light. It's cheap to render because the shadowmaps can be low res, filtered to fuck and unified in one render pass.
