UAV, map scan and orders were really useful. It was also cool having supplies dropped where I was defending so that I could keep up fighting. Artillery - not the biggest fan, but it added an extra layer to put it one way.
Orders are very handy to have if you're a squad on the move, aswell as commander support by spotting.
But the most worrisome part in that sentence is how they're dumbing it down.
Also if you don't understand commander mode don't play it. Some people do and that's fine. If players want to be able to be commander effectively, they'll learn. "It's too hard for some players" is a terrible excuse.
You as a single player didn't have to play it if you didn't want to anyway. I didn't play commander once during the whole time I played BF2.
Commander mode was way better than giving every sniper a artillery strike.

this. fuck.

It's not like commander was a necessity to play anyway, it was only 2 players a match. I didn't play commander once during the whole time I played BF2.
It was really awesome when there was cooperation between the commander and the players.
With an effective commander and players who cooperate with his orders, it was almost a sure win against a team without a commander.
people act as if having a learning curve in a video game is a horrid thing, fuck "getting it the second you jump in"
people act as if having a learning curve in a video game is a horrid thing, fuck "getting it the second you jump in"
And as a result we get games like CoD.

This. Games are fucking supposed to have a learning curve, otherwise they are bland pieces of shit that become boring after a week. Where the fuck is the fun if you start up the game for the first time and you already know how to do everything?
I actually enjoyed staring into the pavement with a gun in hand and wondering what the fuck I'm supposed to do now.

Not to mention that those jump start games bring in the lazy 14 year olds, that games like that peak their learning ability. Again, CoD.

And sell millions within 24 hours of street release.
I believe you can see the point I am making.

I do see the point, it's more profitable.
But it is sad that companies would rather rely on a safe formula that would always work rather than being at least a little bit more innovative.
well it's a PC game ported to consoles
there shouldn't be stability issues
70% chance of it being a unoptimized console port.
I mean, honestly, "getting more attention" can just be earlier DLC and more patches.
They said that BC2 wasn't "consolized"...

Except it really wasn't a console port, only the game mechanics were consolized, because it is a console game.
I want to see there is some player limit on sniper/recon class right in the release day.
Ammount of snipers in some of the servers in BC2 is insane and i don't want to BF3 end up going that way.
There's nothing more I hate than going on a server in BC2 and having a shitty "THE SNIPER LIMIT IS -----> 3 <---- LOL" and have my character killed.
Yeah class limits is a stupid thing.
Should be able to tweak score ratios instead, so that sniper kills would be half the points etc.
From gameinformer:
This worries me. They are trying to impliment uber user friendlyness into an already simple game. And they're removing a really cool feature as well, that everyone understood.
Commander was much better when the AI could use it. Players would never use it correctly, they'd just call in UAV near their position and supply drops.

I think it worked pretty well. Whenever I played with real players they scanned the maps, then placed a UAV where enemies are for example taking down a flag. And they issued orders where squads rendezvoused and fought together.
An AI commander wouldn't be TOO bad though, as long as it relayed good orders and placed support objects where needed.
It's the human qualities that makes a game fun IMO.
The ability to communicate properly makes the game unpredictable and dynamic, hence it lasts longer.

Get your hands off me you damn dirty AI!
After playing BC2 for a long time, I played bf2 again, and it was like talking to someone after you've only been able to wave your hands.
[editline]12th February 2011[/editline]
I hope you can talk to people in BF3.
"Hey! I need ammo!"
"Here, have some ammo!"
"Thanks man!"
I hope they implent the same message system as the one they had in BF2 where you pressed Q or T to give certain orders/messages for the PC version of BF3

Tactical multi-player BF2 is jizztastic, but the fact that everyone goes lonewolf keeps this from being a regular thing. I, for one, played tactically today. voice chat, infantry extractions, and the likes of it. it has restored my faith in the gaming community :3:

Okay, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, I know the image has been posted a lot but the vest he's wearing isn't a CIRAS it's a RRV.
While reading about blowing holes in the ground (or rather not being able to blow 1000 ft hole in the ground) I just had an idea - considering lots of the action takes place in cities wouldn't it be awesome to blow your way in to sewers and drainage tunnels bellow the streets?
So is it just gonna be cities then?

Yeah it would be fucking awesome. Also I wish that heavier ordinance would make actual craters instead, like this:

Instead of those smooth-edged perfectly round depressions in the ground that nearly all games have. I know it would cause problems with tank getting stuck in them and such, but that's the point.
