Yeah it would be fucking awesome. Also I wish that heavier ordinance would make actual craters instead, like this:
[img_thumb]http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2004/09/03/international/iraq.large1.jpg[/img_thumb]
Instead of those smooth-edged perfectly round depressions in the ground that nearly all games have. I know it would cause problems with tank getting stuck in them and such, but that's the point.
Not THAAT deep, but something like 3 or 4 meters deep would be pretty cool already.
but then you have to imagine, there's 64 players on the battlefield using all sorts of grenades, jets, helicopters, tanks, jeeps, etc. not only would it probably affect performance, but the ground would be full of holes literally everywhere and be really annoying
While reading about blowing holes in the ground (or rather not being able to blow 1000 ft hole in the ground) I just had an idea - considering lots of the action takes place in cities wouldn't it be awesome to blow your way in to sewers and drainage tunnels bellow the streets?
Splendid idea!
We should just get nukes and blow one massive hole in the ground erasing everything and winning the game.

How would it affect performance ? it's just terrain deformation... have you played BC2 ?
and obviously, grenades wouldn't make 3 meters deep craters, i'm talking about Mark82 level bombs here, so only the jets would be capable of that kind of destruction, that and stacked explosions like C4 or HE shells blown up over and over again on the same spot. That kind of shit is awesome on World in Conflict for example, on the end of the match a chokepoint becomes a really big and scorched crater.

It's in BC2 but it's a very small scale version of what they're talking about. Add it to building destruction and it could affect performance big time.

It wouldn't affect anything if you take out the underground idea and just leave the deep terrain deformation with impact textures for different kinds of soil, the most lacking thing on BC2's deformation imo are the impact textures.

You realize that it's not just WHABAM hole in ground? There's actual calculations that are taxing on your CPU that decide HOW that terrain looks after being deformed.

That would be totally epic! Although, not sure if DICE would have enough time to implent this before release, but who knows? Might even be a DLC in the future!
I hope there is music similar to Bad Company 2's with some BF2/PR esque music in there

Somewhere there is a hilarious name for such DLC, I just can't put my finger on it :D
IMO 2142 had the best music

And people wonder why we think Bad Company 2 is comic-like?
Classy tune, sure. But does it suit the firefights of a Battlefield game? Absolutely not.

Exactly why I like BF2 as much as I do.
The music just suits perfect to the atmosphere of the game, like a battle song in ancient wars, giving you a moral boost and encouraging you on
I'd rate you winner, heart, agree and zing, but I can only rate you once :(

But yeah, that's got to be the best game theme ever.
Was looking for it at my local store last week. Couldn't find it. What happened to the world that was once great?
I have all the PR map-loading songs permanently engraved in my brain since it took about 10-15 minutes to load a match.
It's sleeping.
BF3 better wake it up.
If the OP is still around, modding support has been commented on (it's not going to happen).
I'm a modder and I'm on XP, I'm screwed.

Nothing beats this.
I remember when I first played BF1942, that my PC took ages to load maps (that submarine loadscreen will forever be imprinted in my memory) but it wasn't a problem, because this was playing during loadscreens.

do you have a source?
also i thought you just made cheats

Haha, exactly what it was like for me as well.
The music almost became the main reason for starting a game in 1942, rather then play the round :v:
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?
ground on every map in bc2 is just a displacement that uses white-black heightmap (that's what i heard)
if it'd be possible to customize this game (I don't know, with MOD TOOLS or ability for players to host THEIR OWN SERVERS FOR FREE), it'd be possible to do funny stuff with maps

Oh man, nearly forgot that video
My God, instant nostalgia attack from hearing the sound effects and catchphrases! :woop:
