Love, the MMORPG. Linky
Heavy Rain and Alan Wake.
I would have to say TES: Oblivion. When I exited the sewers and I saw the world, the distant mountain tops, the big lakes. And knew I could go anywhere where I pleased, I was amazed. Or in the beginning of 2004 and I was gliding over a tropical island in Far Cry. level of Graphics and physics were unparalleled, too bad I never had the same feeling since, maybe the graphics and physics capabilities of games are of such a high standards today, developers don't feel like revolutionizing them with every sequel they make and instead focus on game play.
Napoleon: Total War has some fine moments. And im still stunned by the amount of detail put into the models from Company of Heroes.
Myst looks fairly dated now, but it does have it's moments. Particularly the half-ship island thing still looks stunning.
Technically, it's Crysis.
realistic doesn't mean beautiful or good.
Ricochet. its the only goddamn game i can play :C
Thief, the Dark Project. My god what a game. That or Final Fantasy 7.
I love the scenery in Assassins Creed 2, very purty.
Gears of War

I liked Mirrors edge and Oasis in Fallout 3 :3:
Shadow of the Colossus and Ico. I've just been playing through ICO again, and the visual style is incredible. Animations add a lot to the atmosphere, and the animations in both of those games are perfect. I was reading through an interview with someone at Team ICO, and he said that all of their animations are hand-made, and that the games don't use a physics engine at all. I also found Wind Waker's style beautiful. Despite being a GameCube game, it could still be made now and it would look exactly the same. Okami's watercolour-esque visuals were equally beautiful, and I also love Minecraft's retro aesthetics.
I'd say that ME has a great visual experience. But I just gotta say that Duke Nukem has a perfect atmosphere and visual effects.
This isn't the 90s anymore.
realistic doesn't mean beautiful or good.
It isn't that realistic.

Shadow of the Colossus, and Oblivion were both really good looking games of their era.
Metal Gear Solid 4 uses my personal favourite engine, I just love the look of everything, it's got a clean, crisp "high defenition" feel to it. Looks as if there's room for it to expand and get better, unlike some game engines. As well as the fact that the game has a "viewer" for weapons and items, and outfits. It's like they're inviting you to zoom in and find a flaw, because there just isn't any.
Killer 7 and mirror's edge. [editline]06:03PM[/editline] And half-quake amen/sunrise, if those count.
