ATI's drivers don't work so well with Stalker, it seems.
Fix'
Joking, no hard feelings eh =P
I have that prob on STALKER CS and CoP, but only if I lower the SSAO setting in CoP and in CS i cant fix it...
Also have problems like that in Gothic 3.
Is your graphics card a ATI by any chance?
It's basicly like C# and VB...
I think it's easy.
I like to mess around with LUA since when I was taking my programing course, C#, HTML and VB were my fav langs.
I miss programing... Can't get a decent job in Portugal without a "first-low-life-job"... So I have to work at a Coffee and Pastery shop before I get into a Computer Company... I hate this country so much...
Ya know... I could say we have oil... just so that the US would bomb this place and take over it. I think it would be an improvement XD

Nah man, I'm running a gtx 295.
Pretty sure this is an engine bug not not a driver bug.
CS and CoP run great without the shadow bug.

Odd... Usually those problems are only on ATI Radeon 5000 series...
For some reason the shadows in stalker bug me to no end, For the most part they look great but in SOC they have the weirdest bugs. Everything far away that is shadowed looks serrated and there seems to be a shadow following the corner of my screen all the time. I wish i could play without the shadows nagging at me in the corner of my mind. Whenever I see a bugged shadow it just turns off all the immersion for me. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.
Here are some images of my problem just so I can prove I'm not going insane.

Oh God, why are those all Bitmaps? Anyway, I think the command that fixes the shadows near the edge of the screen is "r2_sun_near 1".

Thanks I'll give it a try. Also try looking for american companies that hire by contract and allow you to work from home. Most web development companies (small ones at least) here in Canada allow for that. Not sure if they accept out of country applicants though.

Yeah, I would rather fix the shadows instead of getting rid of them altogether.

Wasn't there a thread made in the Gmod Screenshots and Videos section on this?
I've said so before, but it really needs more clever spelling mistakes.

Maybe one of the modders can fill me in on this, but why the hell is the Jupiter station so fucking empty? It's huge, but NPCs never even get near it. I realize that makes it creepier, but you'd imagine that it'd spawn a couple dwarfs or a controller or something. It's like the place is haunted and everything knows it.
Remember this exploitable? :3:

So you're saying there's nothing to worry about inside it? That's good. I was really paranoid when I was sneaking around in the first part of it. Guess I'll just stroll in and take what I need.
My guess would be there's trace amounts of gas leaking out of the tunnel to Pripyat, and it's enough to keep mutants out.
Pardon me if I've repeated this before in this thread, but I keep getting urges to get all 3 of these games. However I keep hearing opinions on how super difficult it is, so I'm at my wits' end on getting the series or at least the first one or (please don't kill me) sticking with Metro 2033.

Let me tell you how hardcore the game is:
I took a quest to help a scientist/ecologist to take some PSI-readings.
He walks out of the bunker.
He charges a zombie with a pistol, kills him, and takes his rifle.
He then proceeds to clear the rest of the area from zombies, while screaming the most badass phrases to exist.
He runs to the pipe, stops, kills everything around, looks at his little PDA.
Then he runs in point blank at shotgun wielding zombies and dies in a hailstorm of bullets, after taking a few down.
Then the game fails the quest.
And then the game crashes, telling me that my Video Card does not support shader 1.1.
It's that fucking hardcore.
tl;dr - get it.
Get it.
Get it.
I've seen a scientist pistol down a bloodsucker.

I found Metro 2033 much more difficult than STALKER to be honest, so if you can play Metro 2033 and be fine then you'll have no problem with STALKER.
It's your choice whether you want the games or not, you should buy any of three preferably Shadow of Chernobyl or Call of Pripyat and see if you like the experience. If you do well buy the rest!

Definitely worth buying. Fantastic games. They're tough, yes, but once you get to know your way around a little bit, you'll be swimming in ammo and money. (Unless you're playing one of those brutal mods...)
Personally, I'd tell you to just skip straight to Call of Pripyat. It offers far and away the most entertaining experience right "out of the box," but if you've got the cash for ShoC and CS they're definitely worth picking up, too.
Get Shadow of Chernobyl first. It's cheaper, good story and gives you a good introduction into the Zone. Skip straight to CoP after that if you want.
3$ for SHoC but CoP is still around 30$
You all say to skip right to CoP, but i say skip CS and get SHoC THEN CoP.
3$ for SHoC but CoP is still around 30$
COP is like 8 at some places.
CS is worth playing, despite all the bad press it gets it's not a bad game. It's not up the the quality of the other two but it's still a decent game.
If you finished SoC and wouldn't mind a bit more, play CS. It gives a bit more story and the gameplay has a few improvements on SoC.
I liked every game of the series, including Clear Sky. I don't get why people hate it but that's because they're not REAL stalkers.
Clear Sky was awesome once it got patched. But it was almost unbearable at first.
