But (used to be) Source modder to modder, you have to appreciate the shit he does sometimes. I'm not talking about the models (which are horrid, I give you that), but rather the time he puts into these things. Like any other modification, there are bugs to be sorted, and a lot of time goes into finding proper resources to replace the old ones (referring to his mapping here). All of this has come out of one guy. He's making a mod for the guys that [B]want it[/B], not for guys who are gonna shit all over it. But ya know, there will always be haters, and I'm down with that.
I don't know why he thinks he's a better artist than valve. Valve designed the characters why can't he just make them better looking instead of replacing them with walking dildos. and why is he using a floor texture on those walls

So, I've looked at it more closely, and apparently, besides an improved texture, the only "shader" this adds is a secondary cubemap (more flat colors) being applied on the outer, white part of the eye.

He actually BUYS a lot of the character models he uses--it's true you can call it dedication, but I'd say it's way past the point of creepy obsession. I don't wish him ill by any means--I've known guys like him in the past, who steal and port hundreds of models in order to be internet popular, and he's probably got plenty of issues to deal with. But, as you said, hating is fun. And maybe some people will learn that quality comes from artistic ability, not from texture resolution. Well, even if he didn't make the models himself, they still look pretty.
The shader looks alright, but to be honest, there's a reason why I still enjoy playing Deus Ex with the original textures. It's the atmosphere that counts, not the amount of megapixels you throw in. Plus his texture sizes are obscenely high even though the Source engine resizes everything so it doesn't really matter. Most Graphics card only support 4096x4096 and he makes it bigger than that sometimes.

he should just adds bumpmaps to models, adds SSbumpmaps to static textures, adds detail props to textures, add phong to textures, and replaces effects with the new OB particle systems. i dunno why he feels the need to replace every character.
Fakefactory takes forever to load levels. Urgh.

freakfactory is 3 years late there was a mod that did this shortly after the orange box came out

I think the only custom model I had installed was the Alyx that still resembled Alyx, but had a sports bra or whatever.
The only thing good he did was replace the textures of the levels so they do not look juxtaposition'd. Instead, they look fluid and like one thing.

Other than that, it ran fine and smoothly.
The last good Cinematic Mod was V4 when everything was just a higher-res looking HL2.
