The earliest version was good, it was only higher-res versions of the textures. Don't fix what ain't broke.
The models he pick look good, but they just don't fit together, they don't even fit in the HL storyline.

PelPix released once a pack containing a replacement for all characters. It was simply called "Eye mod".
I have an unethical idea:
Take ALL of his work and take the best of it and apply them to the original HL2 models, for extra zest and sting, DO NOT CREDIT HIM.
He doesn't own any work.
Its a good effect, but... He does it wrong, he makes them look dead. Also he stole the idea from someone else.
His earlier stuff wasn't too horrific.

The ones that look halfway decent tend to look that way because he only changed half. If you go over it and start looking at what he's actually changed, it's hard to find any real improvements.
Most of the map textures in that pictures are just stock Valve textures with hi-res images of dirt and cement overlayed on top of them. The ones he changes (like the cinderblock wall) usually end up looking worse--Valve's original actually looks like cinderblocks, his looks like a medieval castle. The only one that looks even slightly better is the railing texture, but the new green rust fucks up the blue-brown color scheme Valve had going in the original, as well as reducing the contrast between the railing and the wall behind it. Another minus on the ledger.
Alyx's new clothes are problematic as well--her ultra-dark, intentionally distressed jeans with the seams on the outside look like hipster fashion-wear instead of casual clothing (which is what happens when you crib from Poser sites, but that's beside the point). Her belt has been turned into some kind of harness that serves no apparent purpose and, more importantly, casts no shadow on her body. Similarly, the inside of her jacket is as brightly lit as the outside (again, typical of Poser models). Even in this early version, her shoulders are starting to bulge upward into the tremendous monstrosities we see now. She's wearing ridiculous steel-toed boots that only someone like Fakefactory would ever think are cool, let alone practical for someone in her position.
And on top of all that he whitened her skin. Way to go FF.
