Valve needs to make something like Synergy or Obsidian Conflict, nothing but pure co-op. And no, Left 4 Dead doesn't count because there is versus mode and a limit to four players for each team.

what
It's the Halo of the PC world.
It's the Halo of the PC world.
Just curious, why couldn't they play Halo: Combat Evolved for the Halo of the PC world?
Well, the graphics are old, that's why it's bad. Though the gameplay sucks.
Giraffen93, you are completely wrong! The graphics are great consisting it came out in 2004 and the game play is one of the best I have seen. Why do you think there are so many leagues and tournaments such as ED and the fact that sky sports show counter strike source matches. Also there are all the LAN events such as the I-series where people play CSS. SO IT DOES NOT SUCK!
Css doesn't suck but it is overated.
I find Counter Strike Source way too simple, that it's boring.
I too got bored of playing it. Mainly because the fucking shitty hitboxes and net coding.

I meant 1.6 :rolleye:
The graphics in CS:S on the other hand, is pretty good, yes.
And there's a lot more people playing 1.6 than CS:S.
CSS is the most popular and I'd agree with your description of 1.6 as it is so old
the only good part is that the case is a great ass scratcher
Why does everyone love CS? Because it has mass appeal to hardcore gamers, armchair soldiers and the typical rabble. Encouraging team-play while allowing morons to play the game like Team Deathmatch with bombs and hostages and still make an impact. Just deep enough that it has depth for hardcore/professional play but allows new players to just pick up a gun and shoot the other team without worrying about things like ironsights or ballistics or taking the proper stance before firing.
It's just realistic enough that you can sometimes get away with calling it a realism/tactical shooter while still being simple enough to remain appealing to the masses, Has a subject matter almost any FPS fan has a interest in or at least knows something about (Modern Counter-Terrorism/Military) while the game manages to tip-toe around anything too politically sensitive and heavy-handed, Can be highly customized and modded, And perhaps most of all it runs decently even on poor and outdated computers. The original CS even more so. The last 2 are likely the reason it is still so popular even today.
It's got some real flaws too though. First is the age of the core gameplay. Say what you will about the differences between CS and CS:S but no actual gameplay features have been added in years, And it's starting to show how dated it is when you compare it to the likes of Call of Duty 4 and other newer games.
The second is it's community. Now let's be honest, Any big community will attract a good deal of morons, cheaters, idiots and the other dregs of the gaming community. (i'm not talking about small but very active ones like Operation Flashpoint/ArmA here. besides they appeal to a different type of FPS player) But with how wildly popular the game is and the general age of the players just about any type of terrible player and personality is here and out in force. They are likely part of the reason why Valve has not shown off a CS2 or update the game much anymore. Imagine if Valve were to show-off a CS2 that has gameplay differences that were even more of a leap then CS to CS:S which caused and still causes outrage, The anger over a CS2 with large gameplay alterations could make the L4D2 Boycott look like a tiny group of peaceful protesters. And if they don't change anything the other side of the fanbase will be just as angry at Valve for not having the guts to add to the gameplay.
Wow that turned out to be quite long, Didn't it?
Nice post killa.
@Luicinice
Halo is overrated. Not CS 1.6 or Source.
@Anyone who says 1.6 > Source
Just wow, you say grenades that are bigger than the player's head and go no where, animated deaths, and poor models are better. I feel bad that you can't see the light.
@Anyone who says CS is boring
Play modded servers. They vary like no god damned tomorrow. And don't go on with the "it's repetitive" bullshit.

I feel bad that you can't see the light that graphics don't make the games. So what, CS1.6 doesn't have awesome physics and uber leet gfx, people play it because it's harder and more realistic than CSS.
Css doesn't suck but it is overated.
This.
CS:S really only has one gamemode: Deathmatch. 80% of the time the game ends in the other team dead without anyone even touching the bomb or the hostages.
If you had ever played any mods or special gamemodes, you would know... Not many people still play Defusal, but A LOT play games like Surf, HnS, MG, JB... Its all in community developement.

Modded servers suck, an example is shit like the warcraft mod, all it does in creates inbalances (invisibility, stupidly high health, one hit kills from any gun). Vanilla servers are much much better, but they rarely exist as most CS kids are the little German kids who think it's cool to play rap on round starts and ends/ kills/ every fucking second.
Becuase its a nice simple game thats easy to get into.
I feel bad that you can't see the light that graphics don't make the games. So what, CS1.6 doesn't have awesome physics and uber leet gfx, people play it because it's harder and more realistic than CSS.
That was for the people who were thinking that. And it is the physics and graphics that make a game, as well as gameplay. 1.6 can't be more realistic than Source if it has no realistic physics engine, so don't bother using that argument.
@The post about modded servers sucking
Wrong, There are many servers with balanced shit that makes everything even for everyone. My clan's server has some OP races but they take months of playing or five bucks to get. Therefore everyone has a chance to get to the high levels at the same speed. Even still, I can easily kill a person with invisibility without help from the mod. So don't go bitching about your lack of skill.

So you're saying gameplay has absolutely nothing to do with the game? And CS has always been about the weapons and CT vs T, not about physics. CS1.6 weapons have more realistic recoil an spread than CSS does. I don't see you moving boxes around to make cover in CSS, so obviously physics means fuck all in that game.
Use better logic imo.

Right, first off, the mod I was talking about, and that you seem to be running is shit, unbalanced and generally annoying, you try telling a new player to the mod what you said, they won't feel the way you feel, there is no chance of equal leveling when every other user is using the high level classes with all the abilities leveled up, the abilities make it hard to play, such as resurrection of players, invisibility, ridiculous amounts of health. To someone who is stuck on the lower levels with the fairly useless abilities their chances of leveling at the same rate are low.
Also you say I have no skill, you're the one using a mod that spoon feeds you kills basically.
the only good part is that the case is a great ass scratcher
True my good man!

Pretty sure gameplay is that. But still, games aren't going to be fun if you can't see shit.

And yet I am able to knife an almost completely invisible guy with enhanced speed and health and knife damage. When I joined the server, I was able to level quickly. And even then, if you suck at killing guys you can always use the game money to buy the levels and what not. People forget about the shopmenu it seems. But no, play on my server and say its impossible to level against highlevel players. Mike spent over two hundred hours the first weeks of the server to get it as balanced as it is. And even now he's working on more races, and fixing the ones that are there. Also, my clan's server has a 200 level gap before the actual impossible to beat races.
Pretty sure gameplay is that. But still, games aren't going to be fun if you can't see shit.
If you can't see shit because graphics are "bad" then you're just a blind faggoty ass graphics whore...

Wait, you actually modified the thing to make it work right? Well thats a instant win over the shit my "friend"keeps inviting me too. Pain in the ass server :argh:
In my case why I love Cs:s over other games is that I have been playing the franchise for years
I concider myself a good player,I also have a very talented team that I play with in Lan's and online league. It's very competitive and fun.
Also it's the only game where when I log into a server I can instantly be good versus a game where you have to go get some items and or Levels to be able to defeat someone else.

The grenades bounce and act exactly the same as the ones in Source, except you throw them a shitton farther in Source.
[editline]05:04AM[/editline]
you know what, fuck this argument. You're just another one of those sourcefags that thinks it's better because it's prettier and easier. Play 1.6 against any decent team and I guarantee you'll go 16 - 0.
[editline]05:04AM[/editline]
in case you haven't played in CEVO, 16 is the maximum amount of wins.
Sorry, but it doesn't make ANY sense. The game is boring, repetitive, simple, repetitive, no team play, shitty graphics, shitty sounds, shitty gameplay and it's repetitive too. So... What's the big deal?
Oh yeah, rate me "frowny faces" all you want, I really don't give a crap.
Its awesome

Thats all
Search and Destroy from CoD was a carbon copy of bomb game mode.
