Just remember boss fights were out-sourced mostly. I'm sure if they had time they would've done these right as well as putting in more content.
It wasn't the difficulty that bothered me, it's the fact that they're unavoidable. That was a big part of the original.
I don't get why people say this, DX1 had lots of scenes where combat was unavoidable. Granted, they weren't as gimmicky as the Mantis but...
I don't get why people say this, DX1 had lots of scenes where combat was unavoidable.
Care to give an example?

Or chose the wrong dialogue options. Or went wading in with a sword cutting everyone down without even trying to be sneaky.
I don't get why people say this, DX1 had lots of scenes where combat was unavoidable. Granted, they weren't as gimmicky as the Mantis but...
To clarify, I'm not really against the "forcing you into combat" thing, more the "you have to kill someone" thing.
Uh. It's very, very possible to get through the game with no kills. Not even the bosses need to die.
Anna Navarre can only be skipped through exploiting a glitch though.
Anna Navarre can only be skipped through exploiting a glitch though.
And the four bots, iirc.
Anna Navarre can only be skipped through exploiting a glitch though.
Killphrase can also be counted as "avoiding combat".
Killphrase can also be counted as "avoiding combat".
He was referring to a full pacifist run as in "Not killing anyone"
He was referring to a full pacifist run as in "Not killing anyone"
Oh, right, I kept looking at cyclocius' message.
So I'm playing Missing Link and I'm in the prison area. I punch a wall through then jump down and there's a sentry bot on the other side. I assume it's far away enough for me to just hide after I punch the wall next to it. Punched the wall through and Jensen did the takedown animation on the fucking sentry and it exploded as it would if you shot it enough. I'm amazed this hasn't happened to anyone sooner.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem? http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2089182 :(

I've got three gift copies of Deus Ex 1 to give away. If you want one, then just reply to this post and I will hold a lottery on them.

In related news, I found my Deus Ex 1 disk yesterday. Unfortunately the cardboard box it came in is nowhere to be found.
In related news, I found my Deus Ex 1 disk yesterday. Unfortunately the cardboard box it came in is nowhere to be found.
Is it one of those huge boxes like the Half-Life 1 box?
Yep. I'm afraid it may have been lost when I moved though.
Is it one of those huge boxes like the Half-Life 1 box?
What do those huuge boxes contain besides the game and the manual? I always wished to have one of those.
What do those huuge boxes contain besides the game and the manual? I always wished to have one of those.
Really depends on the game. Game, really thick manuals, maps (cloth or paper), artwork, guides, key maps etc.
I've got three gift copies of Deus Ex 1 to give away. If you want one, then just reply to this post and I will hold a lottery on them.
I wouldn't mind one.
Fuck yeah, I just nabbed myself the rest of the Deus Ex games. Now I own the only two Deus Ex games that exist.
Now I own the only two Deus Ex games that exist.
Wow, what a fresh joke.
Wow, what a fresh joke.
Yep.
What did HL1 and Deus Ex have?
My copy of Half-Life had just the standard fare disc and manual (which has since been lost). Deus Ex had the same thing, but it also had a fake newspaper front page and had a few articles, names blacked out, and I think there were some details on weapons. The DX disc didn't have a case though, which was a bummer. At least IW had an extra space in its huge DVD case thing, so it found a home there.
