Rest in Peace, Big Rizzle.
DE:HR is only game I cant play smoothly with my notebook. I tried updating drivers, changing settings, limiting framerate. Checking out Optimus. Nothing helps.
Everything shutters/lags even menu.
Nvidia GT555M, Intel i5 2410M, 4GB ram, Windows 7 64bit.
Can anyone offer a solution?
Steam says otherwise.
It says so in the store but once you buy it, you won't need the original installed in order to run it.

That's some sweet misinformation they've got going there.

unaugmented hooves, not Mr. Jensen.
This seems relevant to post. (Warning: The interviewers are fucking terrible at playing)

Started up Deus Ex 1 and suddenly my brightness on my computer became insanely bright. Had this problem on other ancient games too.
How do I fix it?
I fucking hate how on Steam the game was like 10€ and on consoles it is still around 50€. Goddamn it.
I just started playing Deus Ex. I'm quite surprised that for such an old game it has shitload of features. I can see why it's called one of the best games ever. But I'm having trouble adjusting to the slightly aged gameplay and most importantly because modern games do tell you a lot what to do I have a bad feeling I approached some objectives incorrectly.
Theres really no one way of doing any objective, thats what made DX brilliant (and what the prequel captured so well, for the most part at least). Hell you can kill off characters early on that you won't have to end up dealing with later even.
The game is very responsive to your choices, so there really isn't a "wrong" way to do an objective as long as it gets done, or you do something to move on to the next segment or area.

That's one of the best things about Deus Ex, though. There's no "right" way to play the game, and the moments when you begin to doubt your past actions are all part of the game design in my opinion.
That first, flawed run of Deus Ex will always be the best one.
I can't really play DX1 any other way than stealth. Occasionally I dig out my unique silenced 10mm pistol "Lo Bruto" and take out some mechs or MIBs with the explosive ammo but that mostly happens in places where sneaking past wouldn't really be worth the trouble.

Around here the game is still expensive as fuck.

I'm on my first run through, and i'm finding stealth and non-lethality extremely difficult to do. My crossbow tranq darts only insta-KO two out of every ten guys (and yes, I aim for the head; the effect seems random), and hoo boy do I utterly fail at using the prod. So now I just try to stealth along, KOing when convenient but usually headshotting enemies with the Stealth Pistol.
Problem I've had with the game; with the debug console enabled, my game runs a roughly 2x the speed...
Thoughts?

nonlethal runs in DX1 are pretty challenging compared to the piss-easy no-kill no-stun no-detection run I did on my first play through of DXHR on the highest difficulty. Only part where I had a bit of trouble was [sp]saving Malik.[/sp] There I had to break the rules and stun some people.

13:30 - I stealth-ed the opening scene on Give Me Deus Ex...
That guy must be terrible.

Launch Deus Ex, alt+tab, then launch task manager and assign all cores to be working in the game. I think that's how some people got rid of the problem.

I'll give it a try later; much obliged.
I always got rid of the problem by assigning it only to one core, removing the others.

Oh, it might be that, I just don't remember since I never had this problem.
Things that would have made DX:HR the most amazing thing ever-
Remove all boss fights, or replace them with something that gives options to use diplomacy, hacking, or stealth to your advantage.
More late-game augs. Because I'm either a jack of all trades late game or I have unspent points, and that should never happen. Things like a non-lethal Typhoon, Full Energy Recharge, Insta-hacking low level terminals, Always-on silent walking, etc.
More enemies that use augs to their advantage. Elite enemies with things Barret's Minigun Arm, or an aug to jolt them back to life if they are knocked out. Maybe even enemies that use superjump to get up to high areas where you might feel you are safe, or enemies that turn the tables and try to grapple YOU if you get too close without surprising them.
To be fair the final boss can be made significantly easier with the right augs/preparation.
Hell you can skip most of it by winning the conversation battle with Darrow.
Or by lugging around the otherwise useless laser rifle.
To beat barret, I ended up just spamming him with like 5 frag mines at once.
the other two I pretty much just lamed my way to victory by stunning them with the stungun, and spamming them with the explosive revolver. Unless you were a combat specialist, they were just boring and frustrating to fight. I've never played a "KILL EVERYTHING" Jensen, so I don't know if it's much more fun for them.
