no it's not. maybe, just maybe it's acceptable by today's standards, but today's standards are shit. the game is 2-3 levels too short. how many levels do we have now (not counting the ones you spend 5 seconds in)?
The thing is, it's an RPG. The time it takes to do things is based on what kind of playthrough you're doing. Doing a stealthy playthrough can take quite a few hours more than a run-in-and-shoot-everything playthrough. the only way I could say the game is too short is if I did a speed run.
Yeah, the only thing DX1 has more in regards to this is tougher enemies, which adds up length if you choose a run-and-gun strategy because you're more likely to die. If you take a stealth approach and take the time to read all notes and emails, and talk to everyone you see, both games have a great length. Also, I'm considering buying DX2, but I heard many times that it was very deceiving. What should I do ?
Yeah, I think they planned to have Montreal and Hengsha Upper City as complete locations but time was against them.
Originally back in 08/09 they planned for 5 hubs including Paris, Montreal and Hengsha Upper on top of the current ones. I imagine they had more elaborate boss battles back then but there was a rush on and the Lead Designer (Jean-Francois Dugas) was basically put on the spot and had to decide on how to approach the whole thing. Most people give him shit for stuff sometimes (boss fights) but fact is the man did the best job he possibly could have. I imagine given the massive jump in quality and the swiftness of the development they had with Missing Link, the DXHR teams next game will be downright phenomenal.
.
Invisible War isn't bad, but it's a step down from the first game. They boned up the interface (it blows) and level design (tiny levels, annoying load times) by making in an effort to make it more console friendly. I also felt it lacked the philosophical conversations present in the first game (IIRC). It's at least worth a playthrough just for closure.
Story-wise they explored decent concepts but beyond that the game has little that makes it any good.

Just bought the game on steam and it doesn't even launch, hooray.
So, I finally decided to install the original Deus Ex and started on hard, I've had it since like the early 2000s but I've never played it for some odd reason aside from one time where I stopped after 5 min (guess because I was younger and had less of an attention span) It definitely seems like my kinda game, since Thief TDP is one of my favorites for it's heavy reliance on stealth, nonlinearity, as well as being a FPS that doesn't have the goal of "kill everyone", and this seems to offer similar options along with very nice nonlinear levels and a lot of stealth options to play with. The way the tranquilizer crossbow works is pretty stupid though. "Silent takedown" my ass Here's a dx10 renderer if anyone has trouble with using other rendering devices other than software in the game http://kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/ Also found out the music is made by the same composers who made Unreal 1's music, which is like my favorite OST ever
Is this the first time you've heard the OST? If so, you have missed a lot of good stuff.
Well considering I never actually played the game before today, yes. And I'm loving the music. I always liked the use of trackers those guys do, and their distinct style that is very prevalent in both Unreal and this
IF a new Deus Ex game were to come later on by the same development team that did Human Revolution, I hope they make sure to not repeat any of the mistakes they made with Human Revolution. (Given the time frame of the story, I imagine one more game could be squeezed into there) And I hope to fucking god that they don't use the same FUCKING SHITTY ENGINE that they chose to build Human Revolution on. (Oh god what a mistake) A lot of things in Human Revolution, especially the facial and motion animations for the characters were absolutely horrid.
The only thing I hated about the animations is that every single character had the same animation playing while talking

And kinda the ending.
The best track in the game is Unatco HQ, hands down. It just... fits.
Yeah I heard that theme, it's quite cool. I like the other parts where you talk to people as well that you can find in this version I also heard this one when I failed sneaking passed some guys in the NYC streets (doing a nonlethal playthrough on hard for my first playthrough) and LOVED it It reminded me a bit of this at 3:46 seconds Also, oddly enough, this is what inspired me to look for my CD that I haven't seen in years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg7-qoHVPNs
I really want to replay HR but I can't. Everytime I launch, the game instantly crashes. My status changes to in-game for a few brief seconds before hand. I'm running the latest beta drivers and I have verified my cache. Shit sucks.
What video card and processor do you have?
Sli'd GTX 460's and an i5 2500k. I played it fine back on launch. One of the patches came along though.
Was playing Human Revolution and noticed this: [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/33668121/Fp/huedar.png[/img_thumb] Anyone see this before?
Was playing Deus Ex earlier and discovered that [sp] the password to the basement door in Hell's kitchen is Bloodshot. < lol [/sp]
The UN has been useless for decades. It makes sense that they would continue to be into the future.
He's talking about Invisible War. If you're doing that "IW doesn't exist joke" then stop. The game seriously isn't that bad and the joke is stupid.
The UN has been useless for decades. It makes sense that they would continue to be into the future.
Wasn't he referring to the Invisible War (DX2's title) text at the bottom of the screen ? [editline]26th July 2012[/editline] God damn ninja, ditch your stealth nanoaugmentations and fight like a real man !
Oh, my bad. Never played the previous games.

I noticed that. And I consider both games to have some of the best OST ever. EDIT:
