Yeah, but I was talking about midpoint shadowmaps, which are used to prevent shadow pullaway. The pullaway's the problem here. Sure it's not a big problem, and sure it's in every game that uses shadowmaps ever, but it just bugs me man. It bugs me almost as badly as the lack of supersampling options in pretty much any game, and barely any driver support for it. I mean god damn supersampling is something you should always be able to do.
What do you mean by pullaway? Like gaps in the shadows? That's not really related to the shadowmapping code unless they're doing it really badly, like how Valve do projected textures.
Tried that, and honestly I couldn't notice any difference at all. I've set the game to the "extreme" preset.
try e_gi 0 and then compare. The gi is supposed to be subtle, but being subtle makes it hardly noticeable, which is bad. If you still can't see it then I don't know, maybe you're in an area with an anti-gi volume or something. That's the one thing I hated about the leak, buildings etc had seamingly invisible anti-gi volumes which made everything less appealing and darker.
Was trying singleplayer out until I crashed. It's pretty fun so far I guess. It's easy as fuck though, should have put it on hardest because hard is a complete joke. Power settings seem a lot more useless but Stealth is a lot better, if not too good.
The .pak files are encyrpted. Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME? I give up. I tried to like this game but I simply cannot. There is nothing good about this game. It's ALL bad. Crytek needs to go out of business. A fitting end to what was once a good developer.
It just seems like changing the value does nothing at all, nowhere. The GI is still on, but it's just as subtle as it normally is. With GI enabled, amount set to 500: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/578918346678604545/7B1A7BE6084DEA032A4323DF4D69E7C704781327/ With GI disabled: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/578918346678605579/0348E55167F0B0D6661B8E09C2EB61D706B1C180/ I don't see any difference at all.
What do you mean by pullaway? Like gaps in the shadows? Most often noticed at hard edges like doorways and character's feet. I've seen it in Crysis, Crysis 2, GTA IV is like the worst offender, and quite a few more. It's pretty bad in Source as well. But like I mentioned, what was explained to me and what is offered in the above games could simply be poorly done, I honestly wouldn't know. I just know every time I look at my feet in a game I'm not actually standing on my shadow and it's a little behind me and it pisses me off. And then I see a doorway and I'm like fuck you that shadow's totally not connected to that door even though the door is clearly touching the ground.

Try outside.
Wasn't a map editor supposed to be in this? I've searched all around the menus and haven't found a map editor...
As I said, Crytek are retards and put volumes inside buildings which disable GI... Try outside.
There isn't a difference anywhere, I've tried in a couple of different levels both inside and outside.

There's quit a lot of games with flawless shadowmapping. UDK has good shadowmapping, shame the dominant system is really low precision and causes shadow streaks on near-parallel geometry (parallel to the angle of the dominant directional light.)
I get a big difference in the leak.
I also managed to tweak the GI to show up pretty neatly in the leak, but it doesn't seem like I'm allowed to change anything in this version.
I'm not buying this game due to the fact It's not open-world and consolised, admit it - it's true.
It's more open than other shooters. And This game is far from consolises.
if you find nothing good about this game then what is a good game to you
I like too many games to list. The shorter answer is what games don't I like. That list is:
MW2 and newer. FarCry 2 (Half and half on this one. I dislike it for gameplay reasons, but I do play it often regardless. I think it's editor is what saves it for me.) Homefront GTAIV (Due to bugs, not gameplay) Stormrise Crysis 2 (Only one with NO redeeming qualities) Assassins Creed 2 and newer (Not due to gameplay. I refuse to but Ubi titles for their restrictive DRM) Bioshock 2 (Bioshock 1 was absolutely great. I dislike 2 because of the gameplay & story.)
I think that about covers it. The rest of the games I've played within my lifetime I've usually really enjoyed.
if you find nothing good about this game then what is a good game to you
A game that isn't locked down to all forms of modding and not a direct console port? Basically the list he just posted except GTA4 which is quite enjoyable and bugless, at least for me. It's still the least optimised port of last decade though.
It's more open than other shooters. And This game is far from consolises.
"Please adjust the brightness until the message above is barely seen on your TV screen" Now on all seriousness, the game looks good and plays well, I'm not one of those whiny kids who just want DX11 (even though it was promised). But you can't say the game is not consolized when the gameplay is much more linear than the first game, the messages you get are oriented to console players and the graphics settings are limited to "High", "Very High" and "Extreme". Oh, did I mention you can't even change the key mapping? :v: IMHO, it's a good game with potential, I'm enjoying the singleplayer but I'm really disappointed at the same time... why? The 2 main things that I bought the game for: Sandbox 3 & Multiplayer Sandbox 3 - It isn't there! (It was in the leaked beta *ahem*) Multiplayer - Hardly working (managed to get on 2 servers, one of which was full of aimbotters, good game on cheat protection!) And here I was joining a cause to support Crytek, even after the beta leak I promised I would buy the game to support Crytek as they were supposed to support PC players, I guess they lost their faith in us faster than we did in them. Or maybe they're just after the money... who isn't?
But GTA4 was last decade. I see nobody complains about the lack of quicksave though, since it was present in leak. Also:
It works! Server01 This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.
Other than lod, what's the actual graphical difference in Crysis 2 on the 3 modes? GTA4 was a blatant console port and even it had lower and higher res textures than the console version...
He just made that "summer" statistic up. We don't know when its being released, but they said soon.

In the video in the link below, a rendering engineer from Crytek focuses on a few points regarding CryEngine 3, and mentions that a free version of the CryEngine 3 SDK will be available for the PC in the summer of 2011.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-11-cryengine-3/711319
GTA4 actually had a lot of graphical settings, surprisingly.
sounds to me like you guys think that this is the most disappointing game released also Saints Row 2 port was so much worse than GTA IV, at least people can play GTA IV smoothly on decent machines
sounds to me like you guys think that this is the most disappointing game released also Saints Row 2 port was so much worse than GTA IV, at least I can play GTA IV smoothly
That is exactly what I think. If you had told me Crysis 2 was going to be THIS after I first played through Crysis 1, I would have laughed you to death. Hell, if you only told me Crysis 2's story and left out it's other problems, I still would have felt insulted. I never played Saints Row, but I hear it's pretty bad. GTA IV was a good port in terms of features, but it had way too many optimization problems.
I see nobody complains about the lack of quicksave though, since it was present in leak.
Thats the only thing I don't like about this game, I fucking hate checkpoint saving. I hate it in any game I like to stealth in. It's just a small thing though so it doesn't change my opinion that this game is fucking great so far.
It's always disappointing when you spend $50 on a game that is missing more than half of the promised features.
Fucking FLICKERING!!!! :argh:
Oh, did I mention you can't even change the key mapping? :v:
Um, yes you can. If you want a port where you can't go play Dead Rising 2. [editline]24th March 2011[/editline]
I see nobody complains about the lack of quicksave though, since it was present in leak.
This is the only problem I have with SP, actually.

DX11 is on its way soon. 2. Crysis 1 wasn't that must open then 2. 3. I changed my key mapping and it worked just fine. 4. Sandbox is also on its way soon. 5. What game doesn't have MP problems at launch? They problems aren't that bad anyway. I'm playing MP just fine and not running into many "Aimbotters" as you say the game is full of.
Dunno if a fix has been posted, but I'm playing now and all the lights are constantly flashing, hurts my eyes. Anyone else had this?
crossfire?
You don't. The game is a broken piece of shit. Disable your second GPU, or try renaming the executable to another game. I hear rift and dirt2 work.
newb, ur wrong. download radeonpro (if crossfire) make profile for game set profile to bioshock set crossfirex to on (very left of slider) run game it will give you about a third of your full performance. not quite the full scaling but it's the best we've got at the moment. most importantly, it fixes the flicker with crossfire
enjoying playing this on full settings
