If you have no sound issue , make sure you change your sound card settings to 5.1 or 2.1 , 2.o sound options , the demo does not work in 7.1 surround mode also it doesn't like usb headsets , well all i can say is its a demo..
EDIT : also make sure your windows firewall is not blocking the game , you will have to put the game in your exceptions of the firewall , same for any anti virus blocker.

This is exactly what's happening to me. Although this is after I had to slog through "this username is taken" errors, even though I have the mycrysis account associated with this name.

Shoot, if I didn't have physics homework, I could be playing it right now. I did get to play it for about a half hour, it was pretty decent in my opinion. I'm not paying full retail right when it comes out though. I'll wait for a steam sale or something.
