Assuming you're using Bukkit, why not just make a simple jobs script to avoid power/meta? It should prevent mining certain blocks, adding ores to furnaces, etc if you're not of the appropriate job type. If you need some help, message me, I could try to whip something up.

Biography: Born and Raised in a small Dwarven Village, Kelomir was born to a poor family and in that, he was poor too. His family would try to get money, but it never turned out good for them, his family had quite bad luck. He wasn’t very popular as a child, and thus was picked on alot. But he became a miner, and a good one at that. But still a miner like most he knows. A 5’2” redhead miner and resorts to stealing for his food.
On his way to the old miner’s guild mine Kelomir passed by a stall outside the mine, after a look he noticed some food which he slipped into his pocket, but not before the stall ower noticed it. Kelomir ran off into the mine before the Guards arrived. As he ran down the mine he knocked out the support beams on his way. Collapsing the tunnel has he went. Now stuck, Kelomir continued down the mine, searching desperately to find a way out. But he couldn’t go back, he would be arrested and sent to the dungeon. After hours and hours of walking he saw some glimmer of light, then it got brighter and brighter when he made it out Kelomir shouted “By the Gods I made it!”. Kelomir then wondered where he was going to go, what was he going to do? Off in the distance he could see a light. He know that was a town, no natural light could create that. And thus, his adventure began.

RP Experience: I've never roleplayed before, however I'm willing to give it a shot.
Character backstory:
John has never truly had a home. From a young age he wandered the streets begging for food and coin just to stay alive. He never knew his parents, but then again, he never really knew anyone. Not until the day he came of age and joined the local militia.
Many of the men took one look at John and dismissed him as another slacker gutter rat looking for a free handout, however the Captain saw potential in this young man. Maybe something about the glitter in his eyes struck him. John was enlisted and served one tour.
Following basic training where John picked up basic sword and bow techniques, as well as the ability to handle lighter armors (leather and chain-mail), John gained weight and strength that would serve him well the rest of his life. He spent the next 2 years participating in drills, exercises and defending the town against bandit raids. However it was during one of these raids that John, corned and unarmed, picked up a hammer and swung it into the bandit's skull, killing him instantly. Noting his strength, the Captain reassigned John to apprentice for the militia's blacksmith, taking to it immediately. Within 5 years a major conflict swept the land, causing the local lords to summon up their bannermen.
The War was brutal. Thousands died by the sword and the various illnesses that plagued the armies. And just as it looked like there was no end in sight, a hero came through and shattered the resistance of the enemy.
However John did not come out of the war unscathed. He hated many of the things that he had done. Most nights he wakes in a cold sweat remembering the atrocities he and his crafted blades dealt. He lost most of his friends and the captain he admired so much. Left with nothing but his strength and his skills and free of his military obligations, John is determined to set his life right and try and find peace.
Desired occupation: Smith (or guard if times are tough, but John truly wants to escape his wartime past)

RP Experience: Roleplayed in video games for the past 8 years, involved in running RP servers including a ARMA one for 4 years. Been a member of multiple Hardcore RP communities for many years, from SWG to LOTRO. Done a little RP in MC, however not much hence curious to give it a go.
Character backstory: Tom was a carpenter on a ship that was charged with exploring the nearby waters. During a furious storm the ship hit a reef and most of the crew perished, Tom woke up on a beach not knowing where he was. He is skilled in carpentry and was also required to make and maintain weapons/tools aboard ship. He must explore the surrounding wilderness and find out where he is, maybe more of his crew survived. He is in his late 20's and has no family back home, perhaps this could be a new start for him.

After the rock episode he was done. he ran through a forest hijacked a ship,And rode it to a new land. He was done with his home.He now HATED BloserHam. He went through a horrible desert.Trudged through the snow of a FREEZING land. But..
it payed off. He made it to a wonderful land where he though "I shall stay here".
