yeah he wasn't saying to use usenet, he was more or less mocking it... way to go lithifold (why are you still a moderator)
Still, pirated games don't work online, and will most likely brick your PS3.
Game prices will soar even more.

"You wouldn't steal a car"
They will brick your PS3 just like playing a pirated game on the PC deletes your windows folder
Are you kidding?
Not really. "No one" is quite an exaggeration of course.
So will I finally be able to run Linux with full access to the CPU and GPU? I've heard that the PS3 has hypervisor protection that limited the full utilization of the PS3's GPU, making it impossible ot watch MKV video files or play PC games on it.
Personally I'd just use it for old system emulators. SNES on my hdtv would be nice, using composite makes my eyes bleed with my real SNES.
also i gotta play the "bull shit until proven" card here.
until he releases a video showing it, and provides instructions on how to do it, and then some other reputable tech sites (ie Engadget and Gizmodo) give it a whirl and confirm, it's impossible to know if it actually has been hacked.
This guy is pretty fucking reputable in the reverse engineering community now, what with his assistance with Jailbreak. If he was lying about this then he would ruin that reputation.

Probably not, this is a hardware restriction I doubt he will find a way around. The restriction on the chip was probably to prevent this kind of shit from happening in the first place :v:
Is there anything Geohot can't hack? I hope he starts work on getting a third party OS working as soon as he can, it will be interesting to see what the homebrew community does with this.
First of all Usenet :v: Paying to pirate stuff, you're silly.
Secondly, never said they're hard to find.
Thirdly I've never seen a torrent that wasn't a pack of things or editing software over 40GB with lore than 10 seeders.

Lithifold... that was one of the worst bans I've seen in a long time, especially considering every single person in this thread is discussing the fact the PS3 got hacked, and yet only one of them got banned despite not actually breaking any rules.
Honestly, and i'm sure most of you agree, if homebrew was able to work on the PS3, i'd buy it. Only reason i'm NOT buying the PS3 is cause of the cost. Why should I pay so much? If I could pirate games for it, however, i'd buy it in an instant.

You're an idiot for basing your decision to buy a system on whether you can pirate on it or not. It's people like you that have got the gaming industry in the state it is in now where we have restrictive DRM and higher pricing.
But then again, aren't you also the nonce who was going to buy a 360 just to flash it and pirate games?
10gb to download...1KB per minute
I'd still do it.
I wonder what the Exploit is and how to do it? If it's anything like hacking a PSP's Firmware then it might require taking parts out and modifying them (this is just a guess, PS3s are very different from PSPs).
There is no "exploit". He rigged up a system which is making all the SPU's do something, it slows the console down enough for him to go in there and grab information.
It's clever, and this is why he says it can't be patched. Unless Sony could find a way to patch their own hardware (which is impossible) then it can't be patched. They could however make it harder for you to slow the system down.
Also why does everyone think PS3 games are massive?
MW2 is the same size on the PS3 as on the 360, and people still pirated it.
I wonder if there is a way to change the boot flag to tell the PS3 it's on a DVD instead of a BluRay. If PS2 games could do it, then why not PS3 games?

That's because MW2 is a multiplatform game.

I wanted a 360 flashed just to play single player games on it. I also buy ALL my multiplayer games.
And just because I pirate a few games here and there, it doesn't make me one of those guys. If I like a game, I buy it. And I do 70% of the time.

Still, the way you worded your posts in the past made it seem like you were going to buy them purely for piracy, sorry for jumping on you like that, but still, piracy on consoles usually ends up with you wasting money when they figure out how to ban your console.

I've got an xbox live subscribed 360 that I play all my bought games on. I have my flashed 360 to play the games I want to try before buying. Any game that has multiplayer and I enjoy, I almost always buy it.
Also, no problem mate. I like buying games from companies I like, like Bethesda (love them).
I just wonder whether or not Sony is going to get it patched before they get something useful out of this.

Why are guys saying that most games aren't 50 gbs?
Um, yes... there is, MGS4 for example.
Kojima complained that a few features had to be cut from the game so it would fit on a Blu-ray disc. As format fanatics already know, that means the game takes up nearly 50 gigabytes of space.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/02/kojima-mgs4-too-big-for-50-gb-blu-ray-disc/
It also stated if you were to port it to 360, it'd take 5 dual layer DVDs.
No one said there are not 50 GB games. We just stated that not all games take up 50 GB.
I don't understand where you are getting the "all ps3 games are 50-60gb" from. Just because they are inside a blue ray disk doesn't mean they use all the space in there.
Some quotes I picked here and there.

I edited my post to saying most.
This is what I wrote.
