Alright, now how to you prevent everything from becoming a slummy cluster-fuck?
Did you also make sure to scale down services' budget to your population?
oh nevermind cool you've already set one up

hooooooly crap my commercial demand just plummeted
[editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
and my residential demand just skyrocketed.

Seeing the demand for Residential and Industrial, I'm going to give making a high-tech playground a shot.
Alright, now how to you prevent everything from becoming a slummy cluster-fuck?
You need money to provide for your citizens, so you want to encourage higher wealth.
So:
-Tax the poor. Something like 9.5 should do. Be careful with this though. The poor drive the growth of the region. They need to live somewhere, after all.
-Subsidize the rich. I usually go with 9.5, 8.5, 8.0, 9.0, 8.5, 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 9.0, 20.0, 9.0, 4.0. for tax rates.
-Encourage well paying businesses. Wait for an upturn in regional demand for offices and high tech, then build them in your city. This is hard to do, however, in a collab. Use favourable tax policies like the one above. Manufacturing industry is nice for generating some R$$ demand, but the good jobs are only brought about by a long and sustained education program. Elementary schools, given enough funding, will serve to educate your population up to about 120, and high schools to 160. 160 is basically all you'll need at any point, because at 160 you'll get almost all HT and CO$$$, which is basically what you are looking for.
-Do not allow dirty industry or farms. The agri mod might change this, but to my knowledge these two just generate R$ demand, do not employ anyone of higher wealth, and produce insane amounts of pollution. I would only consider dirty industry for the sake of genereating wealth for your city through a 20% tax, like a business deal, and farms only for aesthetic purposes.
-Mooch demand. Make connections like crazy, stay close to good cities, and some of the high and middle wealth might rub off on you.
Ok guys, here's the situation:
The two guys I talked to about getting a private VPN for FTPBox/SVN have both told me they can't do it, so FTPBox is completely out of the question. However, it is still rather possible to do an SVN or other VCS through Google Code, but that only goes up to 2GB. Now, what I am planning to do is have a VCS for the actual collaboration itself (using periodic revisions so it continues being somewhat real time) while continuing to use the Dropbox for the plugins and backups. I still need to figure out how I can set up or if there are any other alternatives out there, so I'm not going to set it up today and maybe not even tomorrow depending how things go. However, I really do want to hear your opinions on the solution before I go too far with it. So please, tell me if this sounds good and, if not, what other solutions you believe possible for it.
There's no more large plots open anymore. I don't know where the fuck to build, besides in the ocean. but i ran out of room really fast.
Wow, almost filled the whole map with zoning and then I accidentally quit without saving...
Back to planning almost the whole city area :v:

When (if) we switch, I'm probably going to extend the region a bit, maybe even add a few more prebuilt ones. Who knows?
I still want opinions on my strategy, though.

If we switch to a dedicated FTP thingy with a lot of room, we should have quite a bit of huge areas with little town thingys inbetween.

Can't. I don't have anyone to host it at the present time and I haven't any resources to do it myself. I basically making due with what I have.

I wonder if we could pool some money to buy a dedicated box.
or we could just limit the large chunks of land one per person. speaking of which, i took one in the ocean in the bottom left, and i'm going to make a giant island down there. don't worry about it.

Unfortunately, I'm kind of... lacking in disposable income, so I can't really help chip in, and I'd hate to not help get a host.
i don't see anything particularly wrong with the dropbox option, i mean it only seems to fail when everyone isn't clear on what the procedures are.
We're doing pretty decently right now, aren't we?
We're doing pretty decently right now, aren't we?
It's mostly because this collab is much smaller and more organized than the clusterfuck the last one was.
At least, that's what I think it is...
I hate crashing.
Also why the hell is the demand for Low-Wealth Residential So High and the demand for High-Wealth Residential so low?
Phycosymo I swear to god if you don't use that spot I'm taking it as my own.

You have 30 minutes to respond or it's mine :v:
I may join this and make "OvB's private island and beach resort" on one of those tiny islands out in the middle of nowhere if that's alright. Can't tonight though.

Considering how much you know about the ocean and animals in general, I'd go <3
[editline]7th March 2012[/editline]
Because you'd probably have like scuba tours and stuff no homo :v:
demand is so fucked up again

i cant get any residents any more, only commercial will grow
Rezone then. Might as well. Also I would suggest taking advantage of the high-tech demand as well

i tried that and nothing happened
Can people still join in? I just re-installed SC4.
Simcity 4 isn't working on my Windows 8!!!!
But oh god that Simcity 5 Video is insane, I punched my friend in the arm so hard from excitement.
Which counts as child abuse considering I'm an adult and he's only fifteen.... Oh dear.
The little cunt stamped on my leg.
Piths you using that massive spot of land in the top right? It's been claimed by you but been blank for a while now so I am just wondering.

That's... strange. Maybe the demand mods weren't the source of the problem. Either it's a problem with SimCity or it's a problem with one of the mods we already have...

If it's blank, it's most likely corrupt.
The demand mods fucked it up last time.
Now people are just playing correctly and the demand goes with it. Many cities have more citizens than jobs, so I think it's quite logical that someone gets the job demand.
My city has begun. Oh my, So much Transit tools to lean :suicide:
Anyhow, chances are I'm going to be seeing about getting the VCS up today or tomorrow. I still need to figure out which VCS program to use (could really use some help with this, I have no experience in this field whatsoever) and how to set it up to periodically revise and commit and such. Also, I'll see about adding more land to the region, which will either be just ocean or maybe I'll stitch in another prebuilt region (a more mountainous one this time, since this one seems a bit too flat). If any of you guys have any preferences on that, I'd like to know!
Did anyone build subways in my city? I don't remember putting that there. Not that I don't appreciate that, but next time please ask, ok?
I remember building a subway to an unused city, but that's just because I wanted to make a global railway all across the continent! I don't think that's going to work out, but I gotta stay optimistic!
My link doesn't seem to be working? Cities aren't updating...
Damnit people, why are you complaining if the commercial demand goes up, that's the bee's knees. Offices don't need all the fancy and costly public services. :v:
