Either a very elaborate troll or it's pretty much him [editline]5th December 2012[/editline] I am torn between rural/island The island could have very unique features, rural seems bland but challenging and more suiting for sure
i vote island
You have the coolest Reddit page I've ever seen...
You have the coolest Reddit page I've ever seen...
It's designed by the same guy who designed /r/dayz and /r/thewarz
Honestly, you need to include more than one play area with the game because then it can still get stale with all of the playtime possible by gamers to ascertain, I know level creation is a big thing but with an idea such as this, you'd need to expand beyond one play area. All the play areas suggested are great ideas.

The mod map is small due to floating point precision issues, it's evident to the point of where I am going to be warning users about it because there is nothing I can do about it :( But I mean hey, when the game first drops I rather have a tropical island out so I could contrast it with a map set in a different climate and different geographic wise such as a rural area. You also can't skip over small details, detail is being sacrificed for an early alpha, but I will go out of my way to double back and touch up the map adding detail. Contrasting the maps has advantages because nothing says fuck the users then two rural maps one after the other, I mean sure multiple rural maps would be sweet but I much rather contrast then have a consistent and bland landscape. My 2 cents, if you disagree let me know because I rather be told I am wrong then actually make a mistake.
More or less spot on. I know map creation is a pain but it could be a tool for keeping the fan base for this game happy. And if you're looking for variety level wise, why not take my 29 Palms, CA area idea. Large open desert adjacent to a large(The largest USMC base in the world) military base with all the guns and vehicles thrown in the middle. I've also yet to see anyone try to recreate anything from my area, from vegetation to wild life. You could even make this area harder in terms of player durability, so a player should become dehydrated faster.
So wait, is there gonna be a mod version, which you need crysis 2 for and a standalone version? If so, what are the differences between the two?
Deserts are boring and have little area to tuck away imho
It can be boring if you're not doing something, but reason this. What's the difference between a desert setting and a forested setting if there's not going to be a vast difference? And I don't understand what you mean by "little area to tuck away", there are houses here. Do you hear desert and think vast empty nothing like any other person?
A large skii resort could be cool. Tons of cottages and mountains and caves n shit.

Plus the landscape screams boring if it's set in a desert. [editline]6th December 2012[/editline]
A large skii resort could be cool. Gonna work on a mountain town this weekend, got a whicked idea for one. A resort town in the mountains, fancy hotel and hotsprings.. :) [editline]7th December 2012[/editline] Check the OP, info on Closed Alpha and how to get in.

Where did you learn to use the Cry Engine 3 SDK? I've been wanting to get into it, but I can't find any up to date tutorials.

Since I plan on making more then one map I may consider it in the future [editline]7th December 2012[/editline]
Where did you learn to use the Cry Engine 3 SDK?
That picture, the tree thats getting blurry to the top left quadrant, idk it kinda reminds me of an Alan Wake-vibe/setting (THATS A FANTASTIC THING!)
I wouldn't mind testing it out.
Next weekend is when the 0.2CA I'll release the password to the rar on here. The current version is buggier than an Australian hilux commercial
Deserts could be very interesting if done right. Making it look a lot like Utah/Nevada's deserts would be pretty neat. Red Dead is a good example. There could be military bases stocked with helpful supplies, provided you have the means of getting there and feeding yourself. Not to mention the long stretches help you see zombies from a distance. When I think desert, I think of a place to set up your main living area, and then going to get supplies from cities. It's much safer. Of course, this is all just preference, but I like the idea of running out of gas and starving in the middle of nowhere.

Also lol @ military base being well stocked. This isn't DayZ were the good stuff is concentrated into 2 buildings. I mean shit if the military fell they'd probably try to fuck up the base to prevent documents and stuff like that from getting out. Plus the amount of zombies to overrun the military would mean lots of body's full of disease. I'm not sure how I feel about bases and airfields. I want loot to be civilian mostly.
I feel like a teenage girl with a camera.
There's something with this picture that makes me feel like the scale of something is much smaller or bigger than it should be. I can't put my finger on it though.
