Look like movie industry has stuck their noses into places you would have not expected them. So you could possibly imagine someone out there willing to work in cooperation with a popular chipset manufacturer.
Even if something like this did happen, it would have little to no impact on the PC market. as already stated there are tons of alternatives that would simply bypass such an option. It would make no impact and would in fact most likely hurt the manufacturer in the long run.
How does he consider having a quiz every time you start the game "non-intrusive" ?
More importantly: Couldn't someone just look up the quiz answers? still an interesting attempt though.

Learn to fucking read noob. This thread is perfectly on topic, you're the one derailing it with idiocy.
Look guys, we could spend all night arguing about what could hinder pirates, but at the end of the day our options are down to either making it physically impossible for pirates or to give them a reason to want to be customers. The earlier has been tried time and time again to little to no avail, and is ultimately impossible to do.

Still reading it as of now, so far so good.
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, released on 28 March 2005, utilizes the StarForce protection method. As unpopular as this protection method was, it worked to protect the game from any piracy for over a year (422 days) before a working crack was released. No doubt at least some of the people who had wanted to illegally download the game couldn't wait an entire year for the crack to show up, and eventually bought the game regardless. Of course this level of protection came at a cost in terms of negative publicity, and some known compatibility issues. However as we'll see shortly, the fear campaign against StarForce was fuelled by deliberate and unproven misinformation.
It also prevented it from running on Windows XP x64, which probably hurt their sales far more.

I don't Need to read the article to understand common sense. People aren't just going to go out today and decide to pick up a random game to play. They want their money's worth, and if it doesn't satisfy that then why would they bother emptying their wallets, especially in a industry that now uses every dirty trick in the book to treat their customers the way they want to treat their piraters.
Do you think a game such as team fortress 2 would be so popular and big if instead of a good community and patches it was a desolate DRM filled piece of crap? There is a better way to go about fixing the pirating issue then continuing to treat everyone like theifs.
Look at zeno clash, for gods sake. When it came out and started getting pirated the devs did something not many businesses do these days : came out and addressed it with respect. They told people that they understood some wanted to try it, and that a demo would be coming out, and that they should reconsider due to interesting Updates in the following months. Thoes statements changed a lot of people's minds, as was evident from the support and posts thanking the Dev's for saying it.

Brilliant trolling, you can go back to ED and tell them about it now.
On a related note.

A similar article about music piracy worth a read.

TF2 does have DRM, it's called Steam.
Just ignore him guys.
Anyways, that's pretty interesting Wtbalife, I did not know that about Zeno Clash, that's pretty bold considering that most developers don't want to take risks.
TF2 does have DRM, it's called Steam.
Steam I can live with, because it adds to my game. It allows me to access it on any computer, recieve updates immediatiely, and not need a CD.
When Securom starts doing all that, I might by games retail again.
TF2 does have DRM, it's called Steam.
That's a lame form of DRM then because it certainly doesn't limit you from cracking the game easily. The only form of DRM this provides is secure servers for games to go on, that if it wasn't there, the game would be dead anyways.
TF2 does have DRM, it's called Steam.
And unlike other DRM, it dosent treat its legitimate users like crap. Who would seriously want to go online right now and pirate Team fortress 2 after how many sales and how many game changing updates it has had in the past 2 years?

Yeah, and they were Indie too, on top of that. If more companies were willing to take pride in what they make and give people reasons to buy it, then many of the people on the fence would think twice before doing such a thing as pirating
TF2 does have DRM, it's called Steam.
DRM - Digital rights management. Steam doesn't really fit that ugly picture that everyone gives DRM. Steam doesn't really control too much how I use the game I purchased. Sure, they require you to verify the game purchase online, but I can still install Valve's games as many times as I want. The only form of DRM that is really unpopular is the kind that limits the number of times you can install the software.
Wtbalife, read the article, please. Or we will be arguing over the same shit that every other group of people argue about.

ok buddy, how is traditional drm treating users like crap?
"oh no! I can't install my game on more than 5 computers at the same time, how will I ever survive?"

If anything, it adds to it. I can go to my buddies house, sign in, play, come back home, play some more. No real problem there. With other forms of DRM, i'm given 3 fucking installs. Cool, that's like.. what? 1 or 2 formats then i'm fucked?

Simple really, its uneccessary and sometimes even hidden software that does not do what is was intended to do. Even if it takes months, pirates will find a way to get past it and then the only people suffering from it are the ones who bought the game legitimately.

a shitload of software out there installs hidden shit, a lot of games have hidden drm you don't hear about because it's not SecuROM
maybe you should read the article
if "read the article" is all you can say to back up your opinion then i think we are finished here.
I see no reason why companies should still be using intrusive types of DRM when alternatives have been more successful

We read the fucking article you twat. A LOT of DRM gives you limited install count, meaning ever, not just time sensitive. And all that DRM does nothing against a pirate, and only harms those that are buying it legally. Shut the fuck up with this "Read the article" shit if someone doesn't agree with you.
Again, I would read the article if you haven't already, what you guys are saying is just old news to this guy and his article.
The consoles have an intelligent piece of hardware installed with firmware that stops piracy. While some do overwrite the hardware with modified firmware, it's a real hassle to accomplish and there is a risk of permanently screwing up your console. This is the main reason why less people pirate games on the consoles. This same technology should be implemented into motherboards for PCs, but developers better make damn sure that they get a legitimate demo out to us, or maybe even a 6 hour trial of the full game like the indie developers of Mount & Blade did.
Don't fucking dare. DONT. FUCKING. DARE!
That would be end to linux, and all alternative free software.

Spore, Bioshock(Was removed after so much complaining, for that fucking reason), Bioshock 2(if you support the DRM on Bioshock, you should go kill yourself, you have no idea how bad that shit is) Mirrors Edge(not the steam version I believe) and no more jump off the top of my head, but does that matter? They ARE out there you idiot.

Incredible Logic coming from a guy who's greatest rebuttal is evading the topic at hand. Just because i have not read some guide with situational information doesn't mean my opinion is any less relevant. If you have a problem with my opinion you should try arguing with your own instead of telling me to read.
