anyone?
server ip should be blank i think
server ip should be blank i think
what?
then how does my friend connect?
You have to do this first.
1. After installing Hamachi, run it once and insure you've configured your firewall properly and have set port forwarding on your router(s) (if you have one).
2. Re-prioritize your network adapter order:
For XP/2000: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections, then, on the menu bar, click Advanced > Advanced Settings and put Hamachi at the top of the list.
For Vista: Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center, then, on the left side panel, click on 'Manage Network Connections'. Now press Alt, click on Advanced > Advanced Settings and put Hamachi at the top of the list.
For Windows 7: Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center, then, on the left side panel, click on 'Change adapter settings'. Now press Alt, click on Advanced > Advanced Settings and put Hamachi at the top of the list.
3. Configure the gateway and metrics:
In Network Connections right click on Hamachi > Properties, select TCP/IP(v4) > Properties > Advanced. Ensure that the default gateway is 5.0.0.1, if not, then add/edit it and set its metric to Automatic (this is the Gateway Metric).
Below 'Default gateways' tick 'Automatic metric' (this is the Interface Metric).
Quick notice: Some users have reported that their internet connection fails when Hamachi is turned on. Removing the Hamachi gateway (5.0.0.1) should resolve the problem. It is not known why this is happening, but it might be the ISP's fault. Entering a Gateway Metric manually (for example, the default "1500") can restore the internet connection, but gaming functionality may still not be available.
4. If you're running Vista disable TCP/IPv6 (untick it in the Hamachi properties)
5. If you're running Vista ensure that Hamachi appears in the 'Network and Sharing Center' as a 'Private Network' .
If it doesn't, then press customize (at Hamachi, of course) and set it to 'Private Network'.
6. Reboot.
7. Create/Join a Hamachi network and check to see if you can ping/chat with one another. If either one of these don't work ensure you haven't forgotten anything and check again. Still not working? check section 3.1 and 3.2 of the 'Advanced Guide' below.
8. The game host must be running Vista when playing with XP users!
Though this quick guide will insure you will be able to play most games via Hamachi, please visit our game specific tweaks section and also check this thread for a list of games known to work with Hamachi + user submitted game specific tweaks where necessary.
If you still can't find the solution to a game, then please post your question on the Hamachi forums here.

Then when you've done that, both of you, just host a normal server, and he puts your hamachi IP in the IP box.

I though i didn't have to portforward?
I only want a server for me and my brother
Leave the IP blank, you connect using 'localhost', he connects using your hamachi IP. That's how it works for my brother and I, anyway.
Alright, let me try
[editline]28th March 2011[/editline]
Connection refused:connection
?
I'm at school right now, I'll give you more info on my setup when I get home. Hold tight.
I just did an IP anyway even we were on the same connection. Worked for me.

What IP does it say it's connecting to?
In the server log*
ok here is what you do , in the settings you leave serve ip to blank , your friend connects with your hamachi ip or the hamachi ip of whoever is hosting the server
What IP does it say it's connecting to?
In the server log*
the server.log.lck has nothing in it at all
the server.log.lck has nothing in it at all
You have to join your own server with your own hamachi IP.
the server.log.lck has nothing in it at all
Not that, the actual program for the server has a console in it, which is displayed as a log. That's what I was referring to. When you start the server, it states the IP that it's connecting to.
Also, kill3r could be right, I can't remember.

or try to
localhost should work, then... I'll have more to say when I get home.
if you're on a LAN surely you should both just be able to use localhost as the IP without the aid of Hamachi? or does that not work for Minecraft?

he is moving in a week or two, so we want to set up the server now and get it working before he moves so we can play when he is done moving his stuff
What is the point of using Hamachi anyway, apart from letting non legit MC copies play?
What is the point of using Hamachi anyway, apart from letting non legit MC copies play?
don't have to portforward to host a server, and non legit copies of minecraft can't play on any server
