• Games with diverse landscapes?

fallout 3... oh wait,
The environments aren't that different though. Different colours of nebula, different planets to stare at when you're not doing anything and whether or not it's spammed with asteroids. You can explore if you like but you'll have seen it all before too long. It's a great game, just not really in terms of flying around and going "wow I've never seen that before".
That's what I was addressing, the differences are subtle if anything, but exploring does give you that feeling of "lost in space," which I personally love. Also, Ad Astra looks fucking awesome.

You've got laser turrets like in X3 and shields, but shields only protect against the lasers which are insta-hit beam weapons. Everything else damages the ship directly, and you can lose specific components like wings, weapons, engines and other extremities. You can even shoot the cockpit out, tractor beam the wreck and sell it to a nearby station/city. If you lose engines in an atmosphere you go plummeting to your death and some of the big freighter ships are actually too big and heavy to work in atmospheric flight. I don't really know why I said any of that but it's a good game.
Red Faction: Guerrilla Arma Queens Bandit.-| With mods Arma 2 ----------------| With mods. Mass Effect------------| To a degree...
There's always that game called "go Outside"
There's always that game called "go Outside"
But it's to dangerous!
Fuel
There's always that game called "go Outside"
That was the early alpha, it's called 'real life' now.

Unreal Tournament 2004 has extremely varied levels, from arctic wastes, Egyptian-like deserts, Mars, swamps, spaceships, bombed-out cities, factories, skyscrapers that reach space, and Hell. That's one thing I didn't like about UT3. All the levels were either "boring grasslands" or "Necris hellhole".

Borderlands and Bioshock both have the same engine but they're so much nicer to look at.
Darkfall
Just make your own with Unity3d or something :3:
There's always that game called "go Outside"
But then I'll burst into flames from my albino-ness! [editline]01:56PM[/editline]
Just make your own with Unity3d or something :3:
But then I've had already explored all of the landscapes, because I made them.
Download scenes off their site or something. There's limitless possibilities on the Internet! :science:
Download scenes off their site or something. There's limitless possibilities on the Internet! :science:
But pretty much all of them are bad.
Make your own damn shit, or search the fucking internet. You are so uncreative.
While I don't like the game very much, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts has very creative and diverse lands. Bully also has somewhat creative and diverse areas, I guess.
That was the early alpha, it's called 'real life' now.
dumb old joke
Everquest had a ton of different environments.
Anything in the myst series, if you like puzzles.
how about gothic 3, has woods, desert and a snowy area, and its really good graphics for that kinda game, but be sure to download all the patches [editline]10:08PM[/editline] how about gothic 3, has woods, desert and a snowy area, and its really good graphics for that kinda game, but be sure to download all the patches
uncharted 2
Mass Effect
Tomb Raider 2 and 3. From London over Venice to South Pacific. Also, the Sly series. Every chapter takes place in another landscape. Paris, the outback, Canada, some Arabian place, the caribbean, and many more.

It's exploring, simple as that. You fly around a procedurally generated millions-strong galaxy of stars in your spaceship, land on one of the planets and wander around. Big range of different terrains, sometimes you'll find things like ruins and plants/critters. Not a full game you can spend hours on, though.
Noctis
Noctis
You quoted the whole damn thing? :argh:
what no of course not
holy shit, ad astra looks like noctis except i can see! DL'ing right now.
Definitely WoW, and X3: Terran Conflict has some unique places, though the differences are a bit more subtle since it's space. The main thing with X3, though, is that the farther you explore, and the further you actually feel from the familiar, the stranger and more "lost" you feel, even though you might not be. It's very novel and cool.
This too... In X3 I find myself taking enough weapons, missiles, energy cells and what have you to accompany me for a long period of time without having to resupply since the universe is so large and the distances feel like distances... Sure you can jump from one to another in an instant if you have the energy cells, but the fact that you're 30 jumps away from a sector you have most of your ships in means you're a long way away from any sort of help, and of course Jumping into a Xenon sector without knowing beforehand is always an 'Oh Shit' moment And the sectors in that game are all space and so you think how dull, but they're all unique and some are MUCH nicer to be in than others because of what's in it and the music... Siezewell is by far my favorite sector in the game... Shit tons of asteroids, a nice bright planet, it's well lit from the star, kind of a purplish nebula, and the nice music for that sector makes it all Warm to be in... Not many games do that
