Monster Rancher, Shadowrun, Anarchy Online or Deus Ex.
I know 3 of those are dark and violent worlds where things are not terribly pleasant, but I have my reasons. And for Monster Rancher? Aside from getting monsters from disks and raising them for fun/profit, people(or at least the main character) appear to be friggin' immortal(had a save in the original where 200 years had gone by and myself and my assistant were the same as we were when I started).

Fuck the Reapers. Ilos survived last time so it's just a matter of being prepared and having a safe haven way off the grid. Make an entire underground network undetectable from orbit that no-one but you knows about. Reapers don't find you, you maintain your level of tech and you know what to do to avoid them next time.
Mass Effect seems like a fun place. As long as you chill safe in the citadel. But I'd resent shepard for hearing how all those store's are his favorite.
